General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Sometimes I wonder if I’m even a Star Wars fan anymore.

Elements from the OT which continue to resonate with me:

 • The visuals.
 • The main protagonists.
 • Luke’s story.
 • The music.

Otherwise, I feel I’ve outgrown it all and probably did years ago. A series about white hat heroes battling black hat villains in a swashbuckling setting just doesn’t hold enduring appeal to someone who constantly wishes in their heart of hearts that Ingmar Bergman had created the films instead.

GET OUT!!!

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?
Time

I probably should clarify: I actually love fan edits. I have several of them and appreciate how they can improve a movie.

However

What I feel is that often there are movies that are already very enjoyable. However, fan edit sites tend to focus so much on the negatives that I never would have noticed that it takes away the simple pleasure of enjoying a movie. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate that people edit movies. Heck, NeverarGreat, I was one of those who was disappointed with TFA and am grateful for your work to improve it. Nevertheless, sometimes the simple pleasure of enjoying a movie as is has been destroyed by the excessive scrutiny of members of these sites.

Anyone else this site and fanedit.org make people scrutinize movies too much and suck the fun out of escapist diversion?

P.S. I love it here, but seriously, that aspect of the culture, it just…

 1. I don’t ever this site.
 2. The nice thing is that you can ignore any edit you don’t like.
 3. Up ur.

Welp, I could respond to several things here, but really, all I want to say is that I’m just glad that my attempt at starting a running gag here as a sock more than four years ago has finally caught on…and it only took the change of your to ur to make it happen.

I agree, but this set in during the carbon freezing scene in Empire. 3PO suddenly becomes the voice that tells the idiots in the audience what’s going on and that trait follows him to Jedi.

It’s plot exposition. It has to go somewhere.

With respect, it’s bad plot exposition when it breaks the “show, don’t tell” rule of writing.

IMHO his exposition in ESB is forgivable as the audience is obviously completely unfamiliar with the potential outcomes of carbon freezing a human being. Having Threepio inform the audience is beneficial, and the way it was written was handled quite deftly.

Oh, they’ve encased him in carbonite. He should be quite well protected. If he survived the freezing process, that is.

Yes he comments directly on what’s happening on screen, but the primary comment is on the technical result of the process, with Han’s well-being a secondary thought. Exposition is delivered in an organic way with a dash of humour.

However in ROTJ it’s just amateur writing. The DarthRush edit trims this dialogue and the movie is better for it.

It’s a joke. Somebody never saw The Great Muppet Caper. 😛

I called it first! Your joke made me very happy. Best part about it is that Muppets are on topic in this thread!

Can we elect Jani-wan as the new emperor of the site? He’s always right…someone wise, who makes us all agree! I know he’d be welcomed with thunderous applause!

I always read this.

You got one of my two references! Wanna go for the double?

Im the bad guy, huh?
“Always right”, huh?
Feel free to prove me wrong on anything I said. No one stops you. On the contrary. I would even welcome that, since these arguments are what make projects benefit the most. These are the ones that clear things up, so when it comes to decisions, all the best information is available.
I don’t care if Im right or wrong. I only care about the product. Unlike you.

People who resort to irrelevant personal attacks without actually debating the content of an argument, are either unable to argue, because they are wrong, or not smart enough to argue, and unable to accept what they are.
Seems like you decided you are one of those people, instead of trying to help the project. Too bad.

You got me, pardner! Adywan can screw it up for all I care. I just want to insult you and no one else for no particular reason. Now that I’ve been outed, I don’t have to hide it anymore!

Last Movie Not Seen

What Happened to Monday (2017)

A weird mix of a film. At times it felt like Gattica, at times The Matrix, at times Minority report, at times a low budget tv movie, at times an impressive CGI sci-fi flick. Noomi Rapace is great, Willem Dafoe is fine, Glenn Close is ridiculous. A surprising amount of violence. Near the end I completely lost track of one of the sisters and I still don’t know how she ended up where she did at the end (apparently it was Thursday, which I only learned by reading the Wiki plot summary).

It’s also striking how unfair Hollywood is to women. I mean, it’s obvious anyway, but watching Catcher’s-Mitt-for-a-Face Dafoe in the same movie as Had-to-Have-Plastic-Surgery Close is something else.

6/10

Um…this is the “Last Movie Not Seen” thread. I think it’s pretty clear you actually did see this movie. 49 lashes with a wet noodle for you!
