Honey Bee cut-out this past weekend.
Time

So I've taken up beekeeping recently.  I've actually got a rather small population in my colony, but three of the bees are large in size.  They seem to be attracted to the lovely daisy I'm keeping.

EyeShotFirst, I apologize for overreacting.  There are those who say exactly what you said on a regular basis and mean it.  When I'm in the mood for laughs are just feel like getting worked up, I head over to the Huffington Post and read the comments section--man, nothing gets me on fire quite like that--and that's coming from the all-loving, all-inclusive Left.  I know that such represents the worst of that side and we have plenty of that on ours.  I in fact consider myself a moderate as well.  I just don't like reading what you wrote from those who mean it.  Again, sorry for blowing up, though it did spur some interesting research on my part :)

Warbler, Obama is a Christian of the Protestant branch, and more specifically, the black liberation movement.  Romney is a Christian as well, of the Restoration branch, and of the Latter-day Saint variety.  Many have argued that neither is truly Christian.  From an objective standpoint, they both truly are.  From my perspective, they both truly are, though I don't feel Obama's church has always acted in a Christ-like manner.  But I feel very strongly that Mormons are Christian.  No offense taken, just wanting to clear that up :)

To add to the lovely trashy talk about minorities and racism and how it can all be contributed to one group, I first want to point out how many polls, studies, and articles talk about racism towards whites.  It's clearly not very common.  Usually when the topic gets a turn at the discussion table, it inevitably discusses white racism towards others.  Even hypothetical discussions on racism will say something like, "Let's talk about a white teacher with a few black students in his class..."  It's nearly always framed in this manner.

Some examples:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ap-poll-majority-of-americans-still-express-negative-view-of-blacks/2012/10/27/421d683a-2009-11e2-8817-41b9a7aaabc7_story.html

The implication is that whites are racist.  Well, when I found the poll (which stupidly was not given a hotlink when reading the article), I discovered that racism still remains largely the same towards whites, blacks, and Hispanics.  I don't remember reading that.

http://surveys.ap.org/data/GfK/AP_Racial_Attitudes_Topline_09182012.pdf

Too bad I can't actually read the article without having to subscribe , but surely most of you remember that earlier this year a study came out ascribing greater intelligence to liberals than conservatives and racism to conservatives more than liberals.  Aside from its inherent problems as a study (i.e. the lack uncertainty surrounding the reliability of IQ tests), the possible political motivations, and the fact that a tendency is not a certainty, nor does it even have to be large (I really would like to read the study and see what their conclusions were), an interesting phenomenon arose: liberals made *gasp* simplistic judgments and absolutist conclusions.  "See, I told you liberals are smarter and conservatives are racist."

One line not given too much prominence from that study:

But Nosek said less intelligent types might be attracted to liberal "simplifying ideologies" as well as conservative ones.

In my mind, it is oversimplification that shows a lack of intelligence, the very thing that those who jump so quickly on this study are doing.  And it is these people who tend to be racist, possibly even towards their own race!

Even if more conservatives are less intelligent and racist, I don't see how that makes every conservative viewpoint wrong either.  And considering the stability that comes from a diverse makeup of worldviews, I don't see why so many liberals end up being the very bigots they despise.

Mexicans are controlled and screwed by the republicans. So when they come to America, they know to avoid that vote.

I'm talking about those dang Republicans, right?

No.  I'm talking about idiots who make blanket statements like the above quote.  Most Republicans respect all peoples, though liberal politicians would have you believe otherwise.  The conservative viewpoint is not the strawman that liberal politicians and the mainstream media make us out to be.  Sure, there are racist conservatives.  There are also racist liberals.  Sure there are racist whites.  There are also racist blacks.  To attribute everything to one group, i.e. conservatives, whites, men, Christians, as well as liberals, blacks, women, or Muslims is....

*gasp*

BIGOTRY.

Don't be a bigot.  Not even a liberal one.

This conversation has taken a bit of a turn for the ugly since I was away.  I won't say much except that there is no objective measure of what country is best because different people find different things best.  It's called opinion.  Probably the most scientific thing you could do is poll people on various aspects of their country as well as just a broad, "Do you think your country is the best, great, good, fair," etc.  Then you could objectively determine which country most people think is best.  But just saying other countries are better because there isn't such an income gap or anything else is your personal opinion of why ours is best.  Other countries are largely comprised of much poorer citizens than ours, so their gap wouldn't necessarily be so large.  Many countries with less of a gap are also economically less stable and could end up sending many of their people into poverty.  My point is not to be partisan, but rather that we end the argument before it gets too bad.  I love this country and I personally think it is best, even though I'm poor.  But I am proud of our people as a whole and believe that we use the best of humanity with our extremely compassionate nature (there is an objective study on Americans' generosity, if you care to find it--I'm too lazy right now) as well as harnessing the worst of humanity for good (by this, I mean the greed and competition of capitalism are the reason for our economic success).  In an optimum relationship between government and private sector, it would maximize both of these with as little intervention as possible, but exactly with as much as necessary of course.

Do you not think it would have been otherwise had Romney won?  Seriously, someone is always butthurt following an election.  What did you expect?  In fact, while I'm surprised by the conservative representation at this site, you can bet they'd be saying far worse things elsewhere on the net.  Huffington Post stories and the comments below them would be saying some of the most awful things (something I'm sure they're doing already in the midst of their gloating).  Politics is ugly business, and there's never a shortage of people on the Net willing to make it uglier.

I found this article valuable and true: the media bias is astounding and unashamed.  I always believed the mainstream media was biased, but until Benghazi, I never realized just how extensively.

Hyperbole?  Perhaps.  But I really am concerned that Obama will drastically alter the nature of our government to the best of his ability, and in a way that I do not think would be to our benefit.  He is right in that he has more latitude now in his second term.  And the long-term effects of his work on our economy are frightening...and just thinking that our country chose to put him back...seems suicidal!  Thankfully the Republicans still control the House, so he can't do everything he wants.  But then, neither can the Republicans.

This is sort of the political version of pat man's "How many people have singed the petition" thread, isn't it? ;)

In all seriousness, I am very interested, but I think any counting this early on is meaningless.  We all know pretty well how most of the states will go, and just because one or the other is in the lead at the present will have no bearing on the final outcome.  Really, it comes down to those stupid swing states.  Let me know when we have final results for Florida and Ohio. :)

Alright, I'm smiling as I say this, and after only a short time.  I can't keep up the joke any longer, partly because I worry about folks who already think I'm too snippy or sensitive, and also because I worry about making other folks feel bad.  Surprisingly, Frink really did ignore me when I teased him, so I wrote him to make sure he wasn't offended.  He told me, "Of course not!" but then suggested we start some drama.  I'm sorry ol' boy, but I just couldn't keep the drama going.  I'm too self conscious of my Christ-like image ;)  Thanks everyone for your concern.

BTW, I have a feeling that someone will continue to play, but I no longer can.

It says he was online on Nov. 1, so I don't think he's completely disappeared...just not pressing forward too actively.  You may have woken him up a bit.  I personally do not feel a whole lot in the editing community should be hoarded unless it's a critical surprise regarding one's own edit...otherwise I feel it's best to allow everyone access to it.  But that's just my take, and I can't really call myself a fan editor.

Actually, you'd be pleased to know that I recently unignored you, since you don't have Miss Erica's head and shoulders in your profile pic :)  But since Frink is the topic of my whining, I will just say that a year and a half of looking at his idiotic one-liners and hotlinking has finally hit a nerve...the guy can sure dish it, but he can't take it! >:(

Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)
Time

I'm not sure if I should put this here or in the ESB and ROTJ Wishlist thread or Unofficial Revisited thread.  However, since those are more focused on Ady's edits, and since I doubt he will utilize this idea, I'll just mention it here, since I will probably be adding it to my own little low-budget edit.

This ROTJ trailer actually shows quite a few clips that differ from the film.  Most of these are very brief and could not be used.  However, a couple of them could, I think.  In particular, I've always wondered why it took so much longer for Wedge and Lando to get into the Death Star core than back out; it always seemed like such a quick exit.  Well, there is a very short clip of Wedge's profile while passing through the Death Star tunnel, and there is a unique shot of Lando in the cockpit.  I believe that using this and utilizing a bit of extra footage, I can add just a couple of well placed seconds to the whole run which would give more of the impression of a longer escape from the flames of the exploding station (along with the bit I've already added from the perspective of Jerjerrod).  It would be a subtle but interesting addition, I think.  I also think there might be a couple of other shots that could be useable.  The trailer is available in higher quality on the 2004 trilogy bonus disc.

@daneditor, yeah, I suspected my edit was a bit out of balance with regards to so much space battle.  That's the stuff I love, but I knew that if I were adding so much to it without enough other material to balance it out, it would feel strange.  Perhaps if those other two fanedits we talked about before (THX and Tydirium) were completed, we could make at least the Endor portions a bit more balanced.  My effort there was to include a lot of what was talked about when creating the script: more Mon Cal cruisers; more capital ship battles and starfigher dogfights; Z-95 Headhunter and BTL-B Y-wings; a more extensive assault on the Executor; more B-wing action and more pilot heads and chatter; a Madine sacrifice, though I accomplished this differently than scripted, but in a way that I found satisfying.  It would be hard for me to cut the space battle too much (though I'm sure I could do some), so I think the only way to fix it is balancing it with the other battles.  Most difficult would be adding to the Luke/Vader duel.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for today.

The shots from that exact time came from The Force Unleashed II, I believe the Battle over Kamino.  It's good stuff there, and I was really pleased to include every second from the actual battle.

Seeds of Darkness...that's probably from your edit, actually.  There was some stuff from the battle that I didn't recognize but I did like, so I kept it.  I'll have to take a look at it now :)

Yeah, I tried to eliminate the most obvious BG stuff, but it was such a good video, I had to include some of it.  I hope you enjoyed the story overall.  I found it fun to make, and I hope to make some changes in the future at some point.

Just a quickie...I can't take credit/blame for much of what y'all are complaining about; daneditor changed Jabba's dialogue and used the present opening sequence, which apparently you don't like.  He also did most of the Vader/Luke contact , which you did like.  I enjoyed a lot of his edit, so I used his as a base.  I recommend you PM him for links so you know what I actually didn't do.  Or perhaps I should specify what his changes were, when I've got more time.  The Eclipse I take full responsibility for, because for some reason I've really like the idea of including it.  I've also been playing with a different opening (which at the present is not fully fleshed out), so perhaps that will be different in any subsequent edits.  Overall, I am glad that you like even some of the ideas, because at this point, all my crummy little edit can serve as is a basket full of ideas.

I do want to make (or at least expand upon) another disclaimer: many of the scenes I included will look really crummy.  Many I just grabbed from YouTube rather than rely on my own ripped material (even though I legally own a bunch of the videos).  Sometimes sound was completely out of place, and so I silenced a bunch of things as well, particularly with the space battle.  And many of the shots will look really lame at times.  It's just the sources.  My editing skills and software are so limited that basically I just threw together a bunch of other folks' work.  Again, it's all for ideas, so I hope you will critique the ideas more than the visual/audio quality of anything.

That said, thanks for watching so far, and I hope you like at least some of it.  In the end, I hope it boosts peoples' interest in ROTJ edits and provides some useful ideas.  I think a lot can be done to make this movie great!  That's all I really hope for.  Again, thanks for watching any, and I hope you get through the rest :)
