How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4
Time

I had meant to post an updated, but maybe I didn't again.  Sometimes that page is confusing.  Anyway, I'll change it and try it again.

And you know, I didn't realize in my hurried moves (I was at work fo 14.5 hours) that I had so effectively trapped your bishop.  Oops, but cool, but sorry, but...okay, well, you had me nervous, but now I'm much more confident.

It's getting tricky now.

(Did I get the promoting thing right this time?)

You're playing very well this game.  It looks like I will come out worse in this little exchange.

I don't know...well, we'll see. :)

JEDIT: link

Something's wrong with your link. I think it has this thread's url before the one you want.

Hmmm...I don't even know how I messed that link up.  I don't think I could have easily copied and pasted a mistake like that.  Weird.  In any case, here is the new link, along with my move:

BTW, I suggest next game we try some shogi variants.  There are many interesting games, and the smaller games interest me in particular.  I could help you get the software you need to try them out, if you wish.  They are faster, but not simplistic, like I find mini-chess games to be.  I can also teach you chu shogi, a 12x12 variant that I've actually never played except against software, but I hear it's a great game.

Actually, the software you originally directed me to works really well for that, because there are several Shogi variants included as well as Chess and maybe Chinese Chess (I don't know what the proper name for it is, so I'm not sure).

You know, I had noticed the variants, but didn't notice how many there are in that software.  There are other games that I'd like to try with real humans, but that are not available through that software.  There's even a three player shogi game I've wanted to try.  It's supposed to be the best three player game around, as most suffer from the "petty diplomacy problem" (too lazy to find a link to describe that for you).  Perhaps in a bit we can try that game out, assuming I get the software to work (requires a 32 bit Windows emulator).  I'll happily teach you these other vairants once we're done with this game. :)

Sounds good. It would be nice if I could start up a game of Nimmaar (best described as four player chess--the goal of the game is to get your "President" to the center of the board) on this forum, but unfortunately only five hundred physical copies were made, so there aren't any computerized versions.

Sounds fascinating.  Perhaps you could upload scans of the rules somewhere.  Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to many shogi games with you.  There really is so much that is fascinating about it.

No worries.  I hope you will play me again.  You're a good opponent, and I would enjoy the challenge of a handicapped game.  The idea of playing with handicaps is that ultimately both of us win 50% of the time, something I'm willing to go for.  We can play at a minor handicap, like pawn and move.

Let me know :)

I don't have you yet, though the situation looks grim.  I await your move, or if you like, we can start again. :)

JEDIT: Maybe you're stuck in traffic there in NJ, thanks to that governor of yours ;)  In all seriousness, I was thinking we could play another game with me at a handicap.  I've never played a handicapped game before, but I'm willing to try one.
