Dejarik A.K.A. Holochess--Attention French speakers! Need translation assistance!
Time

Fantastic news!  Once it's translated and proofread, I will send an email to the original designer with your translation.  If you want, you can give me your name so you can get credit for translating.  I haven't written him for years, so I don't even know if his address is still good, but I definitely want him to get as much credit as he deserves for designing workable rules.  It seems like it could be a fun and playable game.

I am curious, what did your instructors mean by saying, "Don't translate towards English"?  I don't understand.

Well, my point was to develop your pieces.  Warbler had pieces stuck in relatively unhelpful positions.  Right now I'm still bringing pieces out.  Look what I have available thus far, and what more I can develop soon.  My position leaves me with opportunities, choices, and I wish to maximize my choices.  I don't know if you'd want to say so here, and I won't change my move anyway, even if you clearly have a superior idea in mind, but what would you have done instead?

I am not doing this to mirror him, and bearing in mind that I am short a pawn, I have to play more cautiously.  Playing black, a player is often forced to dance to the tempo set by white initially.  Even if he had not played his knights where he did, I believe I likely would have brought mine out.  The only difference might have been a pawn move instead.

The opening might be the part of the game where I am weakest.  I should study more opening theory.  But right now I am not trying to gain the upper hand just yet.  Rather I am trying to ensure equal footing.  I will play for upper hand if it comes along, but at the moment I haven't seen a bold move that would grant me significant advantage.

Yes, something I've had to try to learn to do.  I've had some embarrassing moments on this site, some nasty fights where I said mean things, some really stupid and unpopular threads (I think I might have tried to play a couple of those moments off), but I just feel it's best to keep the original spirit of the thread intact.  And I also don't want you to feel ashamed of your large family, as I think it's pretty dang cool. :)

How about a game of Japanese Chess, i.e. Shogi? Now playing Shogi4
Time

Oops, posted after the fact.  If you don't mind, I will play the next three moves for us as I anticipate they will be exactly thus, and then I will have to call it a night, as I have to be at work early in the morning.

DHx8k check (I think I just figured out the symbol for check in shogi: #)

Sx8k

Ln-10h

I really enjoy our games.  It's nice to have a passionate shogi partner after all these years, even if you are less than half my age and far away.  Don't give up the fight: you are a good player and have continually rebuffed my lion when I sought to make an incursion.  This fight ain't over, and you may do something brilliant I had not even seen.  Good night.

I should also point out that any other piece you attempted to block with (bishop, free king, or side mover), would immediately be captured by igui.  You'd be one more piece down and your king would still be in check.  The least bloody defense is to take the plunge and sacrifice the lion, hoping you can save as many other pieces, most of which would not be in immediate danger from me.

Honestly, in Off Topic, and with folks like Frink and Bingo and a number of other lighter weight goofs around (myself included), it's amazing how many topics actually stay on topic.  Yeah, I suggest keeping it up.  Mormons have big families too (I am one of eight children), so I think it's cool you have a big family.  But I suspect you are right, most people won't volunteer that info much.
