No, no. I mean for this "Limited Edition" set that is coming out. Because it would have been awesome. But expensive.

Oh, yeah. Of course. I knew that.

It is a shame that they didn't. Would've been very classy, but I doubt many PT fans were even the least bit bothered by the horrendous PhotoShop jobs.

That's pretty much the idea. I'd love to see Lucas' remakes go down in flames to prove, once and for all, that OT is the one and only Star Wars and that Lucas has become a megalomaniac!

I especially like the idea, because it would mean that Lucas would be fessing up to how much of the OT he owed to other people involved in the filmmaking process!

Changing a few scenes throughout the first three films and then saying the story is now what he originally envisioned is very, VERY hard to swallow. And I'm not.

All of that aside, there's an outside chance that there could be something cool in a remake.

Edit: AN EXTREME outside chance. Especially after trying to watch Episode 2 this evening. Sheesh! What a heaping pile!

Scruffy and THX: Wouldn't 4:3 TVs benefit from the anamorphic video ever so slightly due to the fact that the letterboxing is handled via the DVD player and not just a lower resolution letterboxed version being spit out natively?

Aside from whether or not anamorphic matters in a 4:3 world, everything else is released anamorphic, and it's insulting to know that the extra resolution wouldn't be available with this release even if it did matter.

But seriously, I'd like to know more about the anamorphic stuff. Looked stuff up on the Digital Bits about it earlier today, and most of the technical stuff flew over my head.

Make your voices heard! (again) - re the 2006 GOUT DVD being in letterbox format

I went to WidescreenReview.com from a link on the DVD FAQ page by Jim Taylor, and, while no info was given for Star Wars on the non-member search results, both ESB and ROTJ are written up as being anamorphic for the 9/12/06 release.

This is probably just the spec for the SE disc I would guess. But the lack of info on Star Wars makes me wonder if even this site is waiting to see how it all sifts out, or maybe even they have been caught by surprsie.

...I've had enough of this. Seriously--what the hell is wrong with Lucasfilm??? Are they truely that callous that they wont put any effort at all to give us something half decent. Jim Ward should rot in dvd hell. How dare he try to sell us something as terrible as this.

Sigh. Just when things looked so good. The war could have been over--it would have been so easy...

Here's the link to the article:

Non-anamorphic, 1993 Transfer Confirmed

And here's a quote from Lucas that might just get you mad (Original Release Intended to Bate Fans):

"'Now we'll find out whether they really wanted the original or whether they wanted the improved versions,' he said. 'It'll all come out in the end.'"

Sounds like a clear case of disdain for us fans to me.

Hey, I think we can all play nice here, no?

Anyway, I've been thinking about this since I saw the thread, and a complete remake of the original trilogy might be cool, especially if it means that the original, Orignal Trilogy gets its proper due.

If Lucas really wanted to make his "original vision" a reality, he could take the story all the way back to some of the rough draft stuff he had before the original Star Wars script was finalized.

I think it might be cool to see. And if it makes more sense of the prequels that way, then cool.

I just have a hard time believing that the changes Lucas made in the SEs really, truly makes the movies all that he originally envisioned. For example, all the alien creatures that he wanted as main characters instead of the mostly human cast.

Yeah, it would be cool. The more people who know about this, the better.

I received one reply on StarWars.com which said it was probably too late in the game to make any changes, but if we all had that perspective, then there wouldn't even be the chance of letting Lucasfilm know how uncool the apparent DVD plans are.

Like Bizzle said; the last paragraph says it all.

If anyone wants to steal this blurb I wrote and posted on StarWars.com, feel free:

Sounds like a lot of you are concerned about the original, unaltered trilogy on DVD, too. Jim Ward is producing the September release.

Let's call, write letters and post this contact info across the web! If it is true that the movies in their original form will not be anamorphic but only letterboxed (www.thedigitalbits.com/#emp), then we've relatively little time to make our voices heard.

Jim Ward
Senior Vice President
Lucasfilm
P.O. Box 29901,
San Francisco, CA 94129.

or:

Jim Ward, Senior Vice President
Lucasfilm Ltd.
5858 Lucas Valley Rd.
Nicasio, CA 94946
Phone: 415-662-1800
Fax: 415-448-2495

Tell him that merely letterboxing the movies will not get us to buy this release. Tell him that we will only be satisfied with anamorphic treatment of these irreplaceable pieces of film history.

What's Chud? (yeah, I'm a newbie).

I just posted to a few threads on StarWars.com, though.

Yeah, I believe the lightning does begin as the Emperor says "die". I was hoping that it would appear that the Emperor's true face was the decrepit one.

Since a transformation seems to occur even the way I re-edited it, maybe that is not possible.

I was thinking of a shot showing the decrepit Emperor blasting Mace, but the audio edit might work if the original shot cuts well with the others.

Yet another detail that I need to check. Hopefully it will all be worthwhile once the re-edit is complete.

This forum is amazing. It's good to have other fans that have great feedback. Thanks for the suggestion, PaulisDead2221.

With the non-anamorphic transfer, the horrific PhotoShop DVD covers, and the "limited time only" fish hook, Lucas better think twice if he thinks he's getting my green for this shlock.

How soon does everybody think we'll see a blue ray DVD release of anything Star Wars?

You know, this is like a bad dream. Why won't Lucas just give the fans what they have been asking for? He can only stand to gain from it.
