Info Wanted: Colorized Classics - is anyone preserving them?
Time

Video Collector said:

I still watch my colorised King Kong laserdisc from time to time. I remember Doug Pratt of the Laserdisc Newsletter prefaced his review of it with "Purists need not apply." Ha ha. KK and the Sony Blus of Harryhausen's colorized films are a pleasure, but I'd balk at a colorised Citizen Kane.

I have been thinking a lot lately about combining the chroma from the KK LD with the Warner BD. Unfortunately the cropping is different between the two so it would entail a lot of manual repositiong of the colours to really make it work. There are probably differences in the frame count between the two to also account for.

Not that I am in any way technically competent to do this, but the theory is sound. I was hoping dark_jedi and his team would tackle this, but as I understand it they need another project like they need a third ear :-)

Damn I forgot about that title, I would love a colorized King Kong 1933, but if we could get this to work that would be nice, that is what we were trying to do with NOTLD 68.

lol just as soon as we can get some of these damn projects out the door and close to releasing others I was tossing around the idea of a request type thread.

Will grab the non OAR and compare some effects shots and some standard shots over the next few days if no one has both

So where are you grabbing it from? maybe this will be our only chance to see this ourselves as well.

Thanks dvdmike

I found it once before and deleted as it was not OAR, one of the UK channels either MGM HD/TCM HD or Channel 4 HD are showing the non OAR also.

I think I have found it I will keep you updated

Thanks mike and please do, would be nice to see this like soon lol, I am finishing up the video right now and going to encode, and once we start gathering extras and authoring then it is done, no turning back then, but the wrong OAR bothers me to, definitely do not like that.

Thanks again

You have to love when people drop bombs like this and then do not return to explain or share, or to tell us he is not going to share, either way I say we just work on what we have You_Too and not try and pursue this pipe dream lol, because as you said you already asked and there was no response, so I am good with what we have.

Okay, who dropped the ball? I'm getting the audio ready on my end for receipt on yours. Did I miss something?

lol it is not you, all is good dude, I was talking about the guy that says, well claims, he has way better video then what we are working with, I know you are doing what you are doing and all is good.

DTS audio preservation .... UPDATE 07 May 2015 ... Work In Progress

Well, I have added a few "founds" to the list .....

Little Mermaid

Apollo 13

The World Is Not Enough

Clear And Present Danger

The Matrix Trilogy

Batman & Robin

Batman (Nolan) Trilogy

It's been an exciting weekend ..... here's to the hunt ...... :)

So you found the Cinema DTS CD's for all 3 Nolan Batman movies? now I would love to get those if at all possible, I really want to hear the difference between the 3, it might be a while before I synch them but I would not mind getting them if you want to share.

Thanks

you guys aware of the R6 DVD from China with DTS 6.1 audio?

not sure if that would help?

The DTS 6.1 might sound good but I do not have it and it is very hard trying to hunt down old DVD's and such especially from other Countries, hell I am having 1 hell of a time finding files for Suspiria, but I think the 3 options that I will have thanks to Jetrell Fo for the Cinema DTS tracks, will be plenty but I still do not have the True Lies LD audio ripped.

D_J,

Are you going to leave it letterboxed?

Leave what letterboxed?

I thought the True Lies DTheater was widescreen/letterboxed .... would the 1080p lose the black bars above and below the picture or aren't there any?

This is how it looks.

lol I am trying not to look at FOTR just yet, we said we will do this but we have to get a lot off our plates first right now lol.

Not sure if this is for BD only but Dracula 1979 looks bad now, almost all color has been removed, I just dug this DVD out recently and forgot all about this until now that is.

Hell Dracula 1992 has its issues with BD coloring as well, and this movie is great!

By any chance was there an HDTV broadcast of this? the reason I ask is there is just no way to get these colors exactly like the AB DVD, no way at all, especially in the really bad spots, overall something can be done I am pretty sure of that, but to get it exact even in the what some are calling "the trouble spots" this just is not going to happen.

Hmmm. Some fella over at the blu-ray.com forums posted screens from the Aussie version of some of the notorious problem shots. Perhaps you could tell from these whether or not they correlate with any other source out there?

Thanks for those, I wish there were the same screenshots available of the Japanese release for comparison, because as of now we are liking the Japanese better, by any chance at blu-ray.com is there these same screens for the Japanese release?

Thanks again

some more info for you

MP3 help needed.
Time

Hey Everyone,
So I have a Sony Walkman mp3 player I use at work and I have my iPhone 5, I can get music from my CD's easy enough but does anyone know how in the heck you can take like the loudest mp3 file and make all the rest match? it really sucks when you listen through ear buds, and we also have a stereo we hook our devices on, but when you have it on shuffle some tracks sound really good, and then others it is like the volume just fell out, can't hear crap, so I am hoping someone here has experience with this and can tell me how to correct this, it really is annoying lol.

Thanks

DJ, did you look into the Australian release? If so, anything of interest there? While I understand its from the same munted master as all the rest, I've read suggestions that it has its own unique peculiarities and isn't a direct port of the other discs.

No I have not, I would like to but I do not know anyone who has this version.

I'm going to be asking the moderators to close this thread so it won't get confused with the new one.  Dark_Jedi has taken the lead on this project and will be making sure people get updated as work progresses.

Thanks to everyone who participated here.  It lead to finding the best possible DTheater video source to work with.  Thanks to DoomBot for dropping by and giving the heads up.  Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions.  It may have been a short lived thread but something nice is going to be coming out of it.

Rock ON everyone .......

:)

But you have the lead on the audio, so hopefully you share the 6 tracks with someone or somewhere, if not this will be absent, for now the only audio options will be what I have in hand.

I thank you to DoomBot, at least you got things rolling!

I'm in. Got the 22gb interlaced D-Theater (there's a 14gb reencoded version progressive removing the black bars). Any sync of the original DTS LD sound will be awesome.

Now that is the file I would want, can it be downloaded anywhere?

Thanks

Looks like rutracker has the 22gb 1080i file.

Thanks or the heads up and help Doom, now to round up the LD audio and we should be able to get something going.

Thanks again

tranzor I sent you a PM.

So the AB DVD is the correct color timing or at least the closest correct? I have the Blue Underground DVD and heard this is pretty close as well, so what are the real problem scene or scenes to get right? any help on this could really speed things up, it looks like the Japan version is going to be our base, French and UK versions have crushed blacks and You_Too said to avoid them, and I 100% trust him on this, and the Italian is to over sharpened.
