Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

Well I just ripped the 1985 ESB Theatrical stereo mix from my project years ago,but how in the hell do you sync these to the DVD,it starts out good but it drifts big time all the way to the end, does anyone know how belbecus did these? and did he already sync ESB by any chance? if not I will need to know how to do this so I can add it to the version 2 GOUT DVD's project, which are all encoded now and ready to mux and go.

OK I am testing ESB right now,it has NO color correcting,I left it as is,and it has DD 5.1,DD 2.0 and DD 2.0 commentary from the DVD,also the chapter stops are same as the DVD,it weigh's in at 21.3 GB's,no menu(don't know how)so far it looks and sounds good.

I used Sonic CineVision for the encoding at 22mb's avg.

Does anyone know what software you use to erase\format these BD-RE's?

Shot 1: Has a red tint in the high levels

Shot 2: looks very washed out. No colouring in the face and mouth and the contrast levels seem way off

Shot 3: Doesn't look too bad but the reds are washed out and there does look to be some issues with the levels

Shot 4: has a green tint to it

Shot 5: Again has a red/ pink tint in the high level areas and looks too desaturated

Shot 6: Looks ok, maybe boost the saturation levels very slightly

Shot 7: looks pretty good :)

Shot 8: Gamma levels way to high. Dark areas are just a wash with noise

Shot 9: Not too bad but a little too washed out again and contrast levels need tweaking

Shot 9: Again has a pink tint and the blues are a little too shifted towards cyan

Shot 10: Too much blue has been removed. It's too monochromatic with a slight green shift.

Shot 11: Looks almost sepia, but i know just how bad some of these cockpit shots are with the colouring to begin with

What method are you using for the colour correction?  One thing i found out about these movies is just how much the colour pallet changes from shot to shot. For instance just looks at the shot of 3PO in the command centre as it gets hit and the thing explodes behind him. The whole shot is green. Whoever did the colouring on the official transfers really must be colour blind. lol

To be honost and please do not take this the wrong way Ady,I expected you not to like any of it,which is fine,I will not do scene by scene like you do,to damn much work,it is very nice that you have the patience and time to dedicate to all this stuff but I do not, when it starts feeling like a job and not a hobby I am done with it,I no longer enjoy it,so with all the scenes differing in degrees of good and bad,I believe I might just not mess with it and leave it alone, flaws and all.

all I really wanted to do is take the blue tint out,but then it grew into more, and now it looks like it HAS to be a scene by scene or none at all.

plus there were some scenes that looked really, really bad,I did not post screens of them, but definitely NOT what I would want on my BD25.

@DVD-BOY do you have some screens of your color correcting?

You are right it is a 1 pass through deal,I have NO patience for a scene by scene fix,so I am looking for something that is at least "better" than the source,if not, then I will just do it for my own personal tastes for myself,or I will do an untouched version.

So if taking a little of the red out as you say fixes(or at least makes the other scenes look better) but the Dagobah scene hinders a bit, well I can live with most scenes looking a little better than a few,but as I said, just trying to make it overall better than the source.

1 more thing,my Pioneer BDR-203 is finally installed! now just need some Blu-ray rewritable discs to start doing some testing.

So has anyone watched these yet?

We would love to know what you think of them.

Watched a bit of empire today. This is almost real DVD quality on my 32" tube. I have seen anamorphics dvds from the 70s that dont match this image. I guess it doesn't look as good on a 52" plasma but... hey, this is a big upgrade to what I've seen before

I think they look pretty damn good on my 65" HDTV being upconverted, well good enough for now anyways.

Also wanted to let you guys know that are still following this thread that I will be rendering out the lossless avi's this weekend for encoding new versions, the only difference between this new set and the last is version 2 will have the ESB "magic tree" fix and I moved the subs up into the bottom portion of the movie for Star Wars and Return of The Jedi.

over and out
