According to an interview with Adam Driver the Knights of Ren existed before Kylo/Ben became a member. Maybe, I’m not too sure what to take from this statement.

It sounds like Adam Driver knows more than we’ve been told so far and wasn’t sure what he could share. I’ve been thinking about the Knights of Ren myself and am leaning towards them being Non-Sith Dark Jedi and other Force sensitives a la the Nightsisters? The Han and Leia definitely know at least the name Sith and I assume they would have mentioned the Sith if so.
