We need to make thorough background checks and mental evaluations required in every state. Beyond that I don’t think any restrictions on the weapons themselves are necessary or particularly effective. The guns need to be kept out of reach of the kind of people who will commit atrocities, not out of reach of law abiding citizens. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

I know most everyone here disagrees with that sentiment, but that’s how I figure it. Pretty much every shooting that has occurred has happened because there was a neglect for making sure the wrong person doesn’t get the gun.

On another note, if they can’t get guns, they’ll make homemade explosive devices out of fertilizer and blow the school up. If they can’t do that, they’ll take the steak knife from the kitchen and stab some people.

Another problem is the media coverage being way too specific.

From 2016: https://www.news.iastate.edu/news/2016/05/04/mediashootings

name a use for an automatic riffle? other than having a gun fetish.

There are uses for fertilizer and steak knives. and it is hard to buy fertilizer in bulk now. because, you know, it makes sense to try to limit people having access to high kill weapons.

Apparently Fergie (of The Black Eyed Peas) did a terribad rendition of the national anthem at the NBA All-Star game.

they should find someone with ability to sing it, someone whose singing style fits the Anthem sung straight. The Anthem is not rap, rock, swing, or Jazz song.

I entirely agree. Sing it straight or find someone else who can.

I entirely disagree. We should just stop singing the national anthem at sporting events.

Eh. Maybe. But when it’s sung, it should be sung straight, regardless of venue.

To follow up, Warbler might be saying that from a patriotic perspective—with respect being shown toward the anthem/flag in mind. For me, I agree with him but from a musical perspective. It is not a pop song or blues or death metal or whatever. It was written to be sung straight, and to do otherwise ruins the tone musically.

i thought it was written to be drunk straight.

i see it… and i left it.

I get what you’re saying…you’re advocating for singing “I Wish I Was in Dixie” at sporting events! Yeah, I know what you’re doing: “I see it… and i left it,” meaning “Look away, look away, look away, Dixie Land.” You may think you could get away with your subliminal message, but I’m on to your Confederate sympathies!

amazing ;p
