Return of the Jedi - The Spence Final Cut (Released)
Time

I've just posted a review for this over at FE.org/info....cant remember which!

but i cant vote yet...or im not seeing where to vote...

id give this 8/10 currently, only because of the technical issues which i think Spence could fix, such as a few moments with the lip sink issues - already discussed and mainly the volume of the audio changing at the beginning of the credits.

Just little things like that which kinda remind you its a fanedit, if they were fixed it would be a deffinate 10/10!

I know you worked hard on this and there were a lot of expectant people waiting to see it (including me), so you deffinately deserved a break. But i hope you will come back and just fix those things.

On a final note - regarding seeing the death star outside the window, for me it works fine the way it is - I can see what the others mean when they comment about it not being there in some of the later shots - but for me it doesnt matter - by then its already established that Luke and co are not on the Death Star so ive no problem with it.

So i guess there will be people who want all the shots altered and others who think its fine as is.

Overall, good job dood!

Edit: Now voted didnt realise is was that easy lol!

Hey nice video, the black and white style works well - i thought the flaring effect from light was a bit overpowering it seems to obscure the scene too much at times, but not sure if thats the same in the source you were using.

The narration was good, sounded proffessional, I thought the writing and voice acting might be the hardest things to pull off convincingly but it seems to come naturally to you.

Its good to actually get a strong sense of War from a Star Wars movie and thats what your prologue sets up quite nicely.

It will be good to see what you have in store next :)

edit: didnt comment on the music as enough's already been said about that - but seem like good choices so far

Well, I have no plans to upload them anymore, as AvP has made his official companion to the Ady ESB recon cover, which is what mine was meant to be.  (I actually took his and tweaked it just a little bit further to make it match a little more, but I also won't be posting that one).

Oh, and it's not like it'd be particularly hard to get rid of the text you were talking about, as it's on either a solid white or grey background.  You could do that in Paint.

 aha! ok i see

Now I feel like an asshole.  I spent a little while working on this over the past few days.  I don't mean to steal your thunder, but I figure this is the best place to post it, so here it is.

It's not up yet, I wanted to gauge everyone's reaction from the thumbnails before I post the full version.  The only difference between the two is the first says "NTSC" on the back (for Harmy's NTSC DVD-5), and the other says "PAL"( for his PAL DVD-5 and DVD-9).

Feedback greatly appreciated.

Feedback: Awesome! - do you have the links to the full versions?

PS. If you can remove "Theatrical Edition" and "Harmy's" from the cover that would be cool - Im just looking for some alternate covers for my converted aspect ratio gout jedi disc. If not no worries.

I already have the starwars trilogy VHS style covers you did too :)

Great Job Spence!

I noticied the off sync speech from lando too, but its not long and i was just thinking at the time - wow the sarlac really is soo much better when its just a hole in the ground with tentacles! (without the snout thing)

so i guessed you had used some gout footage but you merged it really well, also noticed the color correction you made to the whole movie - otherwise it would have stood out like a sore thumb!

I prefer this version of the movie to all the others) I thought the credits went on for a long time and got a bit crazy tho lol

Im not going to comment on all the changes now, ill leave that for another time - but i liked the ending, that scene with Luke burning vader's body now seems to give off a totally different vibe - but what strikes me is how simple it was to pull off - all thats changed is that it's now the final shot intsead of being lost within the ewok celebration somewhere. The ending now implies there is hope for the future of the galaxy rather than just the happy type party ending that it was before.

When i heard thats what you were doing a few weeks ago, i tried to emulate the ending to see what it would look like but the music cut and credits always messed it up! I never thought of using the music from the ending of Empire strikes back! but it works amazingly - and yet that last film ends in despair with the rebels limping away - and yet it still works for the ending of Jedi and implies that there is now hope ...kinda the opposite!

good stuff) most impressive!

That novel, particularly that passage, was also a big influence on this. Matthew Stover is pretty awesome. My avatar is from the cover. Of "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor" which is my all time favorite EU book.

I before each film was released i read each novel and remember enjoying them....although revenge of the sith had a lot of references to other clone wars novels i hadnt read...or if i didnt know they existed maybe i wouldnt have noticed?? hmm....

but i might try reading them again...someone mentioned anakin having a dream of his mum in AOTC turn to glass and i dont remember that bit

I tried shadows of mindor but that also seemed to make a lot of other references to stuff i didnt know about, but maybe ill try again!

^ i wondered that too, but i think its a CG shot from the old republic. a new mmo game?

but it does look like a live action shot with the contrast/brightness effect - but its small too will it blend in with the rest of the film?

if it does then i guess you could incorporating footage from other games too, which could be pretty cool :)
