STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

I don't know about everyone else, but I was actually kinda sad to hear that the ewoks in ESB were just a joke... think of all the great places they could have been featured:

- you could have an ewok pop out when Han slices open the tauntaun's stomach

- a couple ewoks could trip up an AT-AT with a vine... wait, there are no vines on Hoth... ok, they down it with a well placed snowball then...

- instead of Vader, Luke confronts a lightsaber-weilding ewok in the cave on Dagobah... although when its face explodes, I guess you'd just see a midget's severed head in there...

- ewoks could be overpopulating Cloud City, like tribbles from the original Star Trek... they could be getting into everything... one could even get frozen around Han's knees in the carbon freezing chamber

- when Luke is hanging off that vane from the bottom of Cloud City at the end, an ewok could be dangling there already... having a smoke maybe. Luke could bum one off him... it'd give him something to do till Lando got there

As you can see, the possibilities are limitless. Please, Ady, reconsider the ewoks!

DarthSmokey... welcome to the forums. I enjoyed reading your post; it's nice hearing from people who have been fans since the beginning.

Although I wasn't old enough to see Star Wars upon its opening release (I was only born in '77), having grown up with it on VHS from as early on as I can remember, I totally empathize with you when you say that the original Star Wars has a certain something about it that the prequels just can't match. Also, like you (and others) have said, it's nice having an edit of Star Wars from someone like Adywan who really 'gets' what it's about.

Glad to hear this Ady... I'm anxious to see what you do to pull this off (especially with Morrison's voice).

And I think a good point was made Bobby Jay, that accents aren't inherited, which also goes a long way in defending the OT Fett voice.

Thanks for those pictures doubleofive. They helped clarify what exactly was changed in a lot of scenes. That one with the ILM crew member posing as a Jawa, for example -- I kept hearing about this change, but I had never really noticed what people were talking about. Now that I see it, I can't believe that's escaped my notice for the last 30 years.

Huh, well, to each his own I guess. Personally I find they're onscreen so briefly and in such tight shots that it's difficult to tell how they look one way or the other. My bigger gripe would be with the hand puppet space slug and the poor visual effect of the Falcon escaping from it (although I'm not sure there's much that can be done about the former).

Just finished downloading the NTSC version via torrent from mininova last night... burned a copy and flipped through the menus and the movie quickly. Looks absolutely fantastic Ady. Only thing left to do is to print out a nifty cover and label for it before slipping it onto my shelf

For all those of you still downloading the NTSC version via torrent, I'll be seeding for awhile yet (at least till I've reached a 5:1 ratio). Enjoy!

EDIT:
P.S. Thanks to everyone involved for getting this up and out so quickly... I'm truly amazed at how great this community is for helping fellow forum members out. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Info: Cool or Unusual Star Wars Collectibles
Time
Loved, loved, loved the Death Star playset... just boxed mine up for storage recently. I too lost the rope, and the trap door leading to the compactor broke its hinges, so I had to improvise with some white electrician's tape. Also, the gun turret mechanism also gave out on mine... I think it had something to do with a small plastic tab being broken. At any rate, I'm proud (how sad is that) to say that I was able to rig up something with a paperclip and it works again.

Overall, definitely a cool playset. Loved having Obi-Wan deactivating the tractor beam from atop the elevator shaft, as well as having the good guys shoot at stormtroopers from across the retracted bridge. Best part hands down, though, was the compactor... I loved winding that thing up and almost squash Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie.

I thought the Dagobah playsetwas also quite cool... there was a little "table" (tree stump) inside the tree with a little bowl, and I'd imagine Yoda eating his root leaf stew with Luke there. It also had little plastic supports that you could put R2 or boxes on and, when you pressed on a rock, the objects would lift up with the "force." Coolest thing, though, was the "mud pit"... hours of fun watching Luke or R2 sink into that thing Sadly, the foam became extremely delicate over the years, and a lot of it has since dissolved (although I guess it'd be possible to find more foam and replace it).

The one playset I had always wanted but never got was the Star Destroyer playset. I always liked Vader's chamber, and the upside-down-character-hanging feature (although I have no idea where that came from).

While we're on the topic of music, I just wanted to throw the suggestion out there to perhaps consider using the "Binary Sunset (Alternate )" archival bonus track from the 2-disc soundtrack. It's an amazing piece of music that I wish had made it somewhere into at least one of the films.

You're quite right... after I posted I thought to myself that vanilla was the wrong description. It was some type unidentifiable sweet taste... definitely some honey in there, but not sweet in the normal sugary sense...

Man I wish I could have some right now

They were, to be quite honest, the tastiest cereal I think I've ever had in my life. Kind of a vanilla-y, sweet flavour to it... very hard to explain.

Not only was the cereal good, but I used to love the cardboard cut-out masks they'd print on the back of the box (my personal favourite being the stormtrooper mask).

I'd go bananas if the put 3PO's back on the market.

Well that's just great... here I was resolute that I'd be happy with the DIVX copy until the DVD-9 came out, and then Ady has to go and make the DVD-5 so irresistably appealing

Looking forward to seeing your second round efforts on this edit Adywan! And why on earth would people go to the trouble of sending fake cease & desist orders? I can't even fathom what their motives would be.

Edit:
Tech-related question here: would there be any downside to compressing the DVD-9 onto a single layer disc for playback? I ask because once the dual-layerd version's made available, I was wondering whether it was worth hanging onto the DVD-5, or if simply compressing the DVD-9 would give me equal quality.

Ok, I'm starting to feel stupid for taking part in this ridiculous discussion, but...

[fanboy rant] I don't get the confusion over the shield generator on Hoth. The AT-ATs didn't have to contend with it because the shield exists ABOVE the Rebel base only, not at ground level. The starwars.com databank entry is pretty clear about it:

Ground-based installations use immense projectors to generate a deflector shield, like the one that protected the Rebel base on Hoth from orbital bombardment. This shield worked in both directions, however, and had to be lowered momentarily to allow the launching of evacuation ships. During the Battle of Hoth, Imperial ground craft landed beyond the shield perimeter, and marched over land to destroy the generators powering the shield.

Given this, I think any addition of a field effect for the walkers to go through would be not only unecessary, but just plain a bad idea. THERE'S NO SHIELD AT GROUND LEVEL. [/fanboy rant]

This is also the way I've always thought of it ever since I was a kid... the shield is aerial, to prevent bombardment from above. I never assumed it went all the way to the ground (thinking so is just the result of seeing the lame Gungan energy shield from Episode I). And as for why the AT-ATs were used, as General Veers explains to Vader:

"My lord, the fleet has moved out of light-speed. Com-Scan has detected an energy field protecting an area around the sixth planet of the Hoth system. The field is strong enough to deflect any bombardment."

Therefore, the Empire had to land beyond the reach of the shield and destroy it from the ground in order to allow the remaining Imperial forces (including Vader) to get to the base quickly.

A few suggestions that I hadn't seen made yet for ESB:R

1. In the overhead zoom-in shot of Luke on the tauntaun, the tauntaun leaves no tracks in the snow. Perhpas digitally insert some?
2. In the shots featuring macrobinoculars (@ 3:25, 26:00, and 33:25), perhaps change them as you did Luke's in ANH to include Aurebesh.
3. Erase the matt lines around Falcon @ 40:05
4. There are two Bespin background inconsistencies. One was mentioned already (@ 1:22:15, when our heroes walk down the hallway, and the opening at the end of the hall in the former shot becomes a window in subsequent shots). The other occurs at 1:28:00 (the window behind Solo and company goes from transparent (we see an elevator rise behind it) to opaque in subsequent shots.
5. Obi-Wan's opacity is inconsistent on Dagobah... towards the end he is very transparent whereas he's almost totally opaque earlier. Any chance he could be made more transparent throughout?

Other things mentioned I agree with:
* Omit new wampa footage or, if keeping it, replace original wampa head to match SE version (e.g., eyes are darker in SE version)
* Like the red interior lighting idea for the AT-ATs
* Re-insert orignal line "You're lucky you don't taste very good."
* Re-insert original line "Bring my shuttle."
* Alter colour of Luke's artificial arm to match the colour of his hand in the sickbay at the end

Other things to think about:
* I'm a huge fan of the OT, and love the original Fett voice, BUT... if the goal is to match up the OT:SE with the PT, then perhaps Temuera Morrison's voice should stay? Otherwise wouldn't that create an inconsistency (he is a clone afterall, not just Jango's son... it should be identical, no?)
* Ady, what are your plans for the dialogue between Vader and the Emperor? I've gone to lengths in the past to explain how the SE conversation is fine and presents no inconsistencies, but I also understand that it can be a bit confusing and unecessary. Just wanted to know what you thought about this scene
* Have you thought about doing anything with the space slug? Perhaps make some teeth faintly visible as the Falcon flies into the cave? Do something to the wide shot of it when the Falcon escapes to somehow make it seem less like a sock puppet?
* Although Solo's arm bindings in the carbon freezing chamber are said to be made of carbonite (hence explaining their disappearance in ROTJ), might you make them a bit bulkier and more rock-like? As is, they really do look to be just oversized metal handcuffs linked with a metal chain/rod.

I'm elated to hear you're already thinking about ESB:R... and I'm looking very forward to you sorting out your current PC problems and creating the SW:R DVDs soon. Good luck man!

Ady, I wish I could offer some help regarding the encoding problems you're having. Unfortunately, I'm a total moron when it comes to such things. Just know that I'm wishing you well and hope you're able to get it working.

As for those of you asking about how to get this edit...

I see Chrille and Kurgan beat me to the punch while I was typing up this insanely long answer... oh well. As has been indicated, everything you need to know about getting this edit can be found on the preceding pages of this thread. That being said, I suppose 197 pages is a lot to read through, so for those who are too lazy and/or inept to do so, here’s a quick “how to” guide:

To obtain this edit via torrent:

1) Go to a site such as bittornado.com or utorrent.com and download the software needed to grab torrents (there are others, but these two are the ones I’m most aware of).

2) Once the software is installed, go to this site (which Molly posted back on page 153 of this thread), and click on the entry with the title "Star Wars Revisited-Adywan-XviD."

3) Click "Download This Torrent" at the top of the page, and save the file "Star_Wars_Revisited-Adywan-XviD.torrent" to your hard drive.

4) Double click on the file once it's downloaded, and your torrent software should launch. Simply choose a folder/destination for the file, click OK, and you're off to the races.

5) Once your torrent is fully downloaded, it is asked that you remain online at least until your upload ratio is equal to what you downloaded (i.e., if you downloaded 1.66 GB, you should remain online until you’ve uploaded 1.66 GB – this is what is known as “seeding” a file)

To obtain this edit via news groups:

1) Go to a news group site such as giganews.com or usenet.com (I haven’t used news groups before, but from what I understand, unless there’s a free trial period, you’ll have to buy at least one month’s worth of service, which could cost anywhere from $5 to $25).

2) From here, having never used news groups, I’m not sure what you do… I think you can search for the file in question, download it in multiple parts, then unpack the files with a program such as winRAR. It would be best to ask another forum member what exactly to do if you choose to go this route.

To obtain this edit via rapidshare:

1) Post a request in the thread asking for a forum member to PM (private message) you a link to the appropriate rapidshare link. (Note: make sure your “Allow Private Message” option is set to “ON” in your profile).

2) From here, simply follow the link provided and begin downloading the file (not having used rapidshare for this edit, I’m not sure if the file will come as a single .avi file or in multiple parts such as with news groups)

To obtain this edit via PIF:

If all else fails, those of you who are not tech-savvy can put your name down to become part of a PIF (Pay It Forward) chain. In doing this, you will eventually be mailed a hard copy of the file on DVD, at which point you are expected to burn a minimum of three more copies yourself and mail them off to the next people in the chain.

I hope this helps those of you having difficulty obtaining this edit. I wish I could have provided more info on the news groups and rapidshare options, but as I said, I haven’t used either one yet, so the only one I’m really familiar with is the torrent method. Although slower than newsgroups, it is free.

Lastly, once you’ve downloaded the .avi, you can convert it to DVD format for playback on your DVD player using such programs as WinAVI or avi2dvd.

Good luck.

Those menus were way more than I was expecting Ady... very nice to see you tying them in with the official DVD menus. They look excellent.

I apologize for asking this if it has already been discussed (after almost 200 pages, I can't always remember every topic of convsersation), but will there be any difference in content (menus, extras, etc.) between the DVD-5 and DVD-9?

OBtwosy, love your cover man. I've always had a penchant for the original theatrical posters myself. One quick question, though, if I may: should you perhaps rework the spine to include "A New Hope?" I suggest this only because I'm not sure how similar covers for ESB and ROTJ would look standing next to each other (aside from the roman numerals at the bottom).

Nicely put focuspuller. As important as it is that people be able to post their thoughts here, positive or otherwise, the comments should not degrade into any sort of attack on the creator. I agree with what Adywan said, that since he's offered a reason behind all of his changes, it's very unfair for someone to resort to saying "he changed this and that simply because he could" solely because that person happens to disagree with an editing decision. It's fine to disagree with a change, but don't start implying a mistake was made because it doesn't suit personal preferences. As others have said, if someone is still really bothered by something in Adywan's edit, they really should go ahead and make their own; perhaps it will not only please them, but other fans who share their tastes.

And, as for Mojo_LA being a professional in the field...
Originally posted by: OBtwosy

I'd go so far as to say most of what comes out of Hollywood isn't good. As focuspuller also stated, Mojo_LA's opinions are as valid as anyone's here, but not more so simply because he does FX work professionally. That would be akin to me saying a book I read was terrible, and if someone else happens to like it, then they're wrong and I know better simply because I'm a high school English teacher and hold a university English degree. Who the hell am I to tell someone what makes for good or bad literature? At the end of the day, it's just my opinion and is neither right nor wrong.

@ Adywan
One little change I meant to comment on earlier but forgot -- I liked the replacement of the blaster sound effects on the Falcon when the stormtroopers are ambushed by our heros on board the Death Star. Having sounds of Chewie roaring and things being knocked around does a good job of alleviating the question of "if the stormtroopers were shot, where are the blast marks?" or "was the Falcon shot up?" since there's no evidence of such later on. Just another example of the subtle yet great changes made to this edit.
