And here is the same frame from the NTSC GOUT:

Thanks for the pics, Moth3r and Harmy (and of course Zion, for uploading the video). It shows that, pre-GOUT, the X0 capture was probably the best LD preservation to be had. But, going by the images above, it looks (to my eye at least) like the GOUT has negated the need for an LD preservation such as this. I understand the GOUT has its own shortcomings (the images above appear to show noise in the GOUT that is absent from the X0 capture), but from what I've been seeing of dark_jedi's V3 GOUT and Blu project, these problems appear to be surmountable. I don't see how any LD preservation could give us a product superior to what's presently coming down the pipe.

I'm not technically savvy when it comes to preservations, but MeBeJedi's recent comment would seem to indicate that, despite appearances, there is still more to milk out of the X0 LD rip than the GOUT. If such is the case, I'm curious to know what this capture can allow one to do that the GOUT can't.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

So I've looked at the list of changes made to the movie, and I love them all, except for one: The needle on the interrogator droid now has an electric arc going across it.

I always thought it was a hypodermic needle for injecting interrogation drugs.

The effect is technically well done, but it's actually a change that many people were so-so with, and one which I believe Adywan himself said he'd reconsider when he gets around to doing the 720p version.

i fail because i did not click on you,re virus link? ok dude you expect me to to click on a link posted by a guy who is talking smack to me. "but i have tried out dvd architect yet" hmm i think you meant HAVE NOT TRIED OUT DVD ARCHITECT YET. could this be a typo? maybe but i will poke fun at him anyway. game over.

Ah, I see you located the Shift key.

ibleedspeed, at the risk of stating the obvious, if you're still interested in getting help with your fan edit, it might be a good idea to stop fighting with the very people from whom you're seeking advice.

C3PX = quotable

Said the guy without a C3PX quote in his sig.

TV's Frink = niggler

In my defense, I used to have a C3PX quotation in my sig, but I had to put it and 005's in storage to make room for my current two (I thought 4 might be pushing the sig-length boundary).

Besides, bkev has a C3PX quotation in his sig... that must count for something.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Just watched the video on Facebook... the colours look great Ady. Just a quick question: have (had) you considered adding shadows below the snowspeeders in some of the shots? I forget if this has been asked before (potentially even by me), but it seems like we should be seeing some shadows at some points given the apparent direction of the light and the speeders' proximity to the ground.

Hmm... just flipping through those now, I think maybe that original clip is too soft after all. Just noticed some detail being blurred on the underside of the star destroyer in pic #1, the Rebel's collar being blurred in pic #6, and Leia looking... well, "pastel-ly"... in pic #10.

Maybe that last version is the best after all. Thoughts?

Here's some screen caps of each version for comparison (although, as others have said, it's not the same when not in motion). Left column is the original clip from post 1829, middle column is the second clip from post 1884, and right column is the most recent clip from post 1942.

Ended up watching the new clip tonight too, along with the other two previous clips, all on my HDTV this time. I'm a little tired, and I'll probably watch these again tomorrow when I'm more awake, but as it stands now here's my 2 cents:

I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say I actually like the first 720p version (post 1829). It simply astounds me that such clarity can come from the GOUT, and of the three samples thus far, it's the one that most looks like a blu-ray image to my mind. Although people's faces may be a bit too smooth (i.e., "plasticy") in this version, the backgrounds (i.e., the Blockade Runner's hallways, the sky during the droid sale on the moisture farm) are the best looking here, as there's no "blocking" (everything is even and smooth).

If some grain is to be left, however, then the most recent (third) sample is the best (post 1942). As far as skin texture is concerned, this version is the one to beat, and it manages to keep the film grain without sacrificing the backgrounds (hallways, sky) too much. Overall, it also looks "natural" for lack of a better word, and is pretty much how I remember Star Wars looking. It may not have quite the same knock-your-socks-off effect of the original clip, but it may well be the most faithful of the three versions.

Truth be told, they all look really good DJ, with my vote going to sample 1 (from post 1829) or 3 (from post 1942). At the end of the day, I'd be ecstatic to be able to watch the OOT at either of these levels of quality.
