Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Thanks for the response, d_j.  I really hope these find their way to the masses sooner than later.  For what it's worth, downloading 75(?) GB may seem like a lot for some, but I'd be content to do so considering the final product I'd be getting.  I've downloaded a 60 GB file before and, while it did take a looooong time, I got it eventually, so I'd have no problem doing it again for what would be, for me, my definitive OT set.

I think the added breaths look very good and are well-executed, but I'm not sure it would really be that cold inside Echo base.  I know 3PO says it's supposed to be freezing in the Princess' chamber, but a lot of characters are walking around with no head-warming protection, and their skin colours betray the actual ambient temperature of the set (if it were so cold as to see their breath, then I'd expect their noses and ears to be red as well).

Ultimately I'm on the fence -- I'd be fine with or without their addition to the film.

Just a quick comment on the latest YouTube clip Ady: I love the subtle additions you've made, such as the Falcon's search lights illuminating the interior of the space slug, and the slight camera shake when Luke's X-wing crashes on Dagobah.  It's small things like this which may go unnoticed while viewing the film (I actually had to rewind 2-3 times to confirm that a change had been made), but it registers subconsciously with the viewer and helps make the film feel more "real."

Of course, I also like the not-so-subtle additions too -- the added asteroids look great while adding consistency.

The one thing that kills me is the anticipation of seeing the new TIE collision shot in the canyon every time you post a new clip, only to see it hasn't been included.  Are you planning on sharing this shot when it's completed, or will this be one of the surprises you'll reserve for the final release?

P.S. As for the TIE colour debate, while I like the look of grey TIEs, I also appreciate that the actual prop colours were bluish-grey, so I have no problem with Ady staying true to the original colours in ESB:R and ROTJ:R, while recolouring the TIES in ANH:R:SE.

Isaac Asimov

I've read his first novel of the Foundation Trilogy (or is it a quadrilogy now?) which I thought was pretty cool, and I, Robot, which I thought was fantastic.  Too bad they butchered the story in the Will Smith film -- the novel is really excellent science fiction.

To anyone wanting to get into sci-fi, I always tell them to start with the ABCs of the genre: Asimov, Bradbury, and Clarke.

... I should probably add Herbert and Dick in there, but it would ruin my nice little acronym.

Oh man... I had put off making a post because I didn't know what to write, but I just want to tell you Ady that I'm really sorry to hear about both your dad passing and your daughter's miscarriage.

I'd love to be able to write something very moving and inspirational, but really I think snaketibe said it best earlier: we might not know each other in our real day to day lives, but an online community is a community nonetheless.  We may not know you personally, Ady, but that doesn't mean you're any less a part of our lives.  I could go on about what an impact you've had on all of us and the fan editing community at large, but let me just speak for myself:  I've been a fan of Star Wars since my earliest memories.  It was a huge part of my childhood, and it made my imagination soar... it's probably what started me on my path to loving storytelling, and which ultimately led me to my current job of being a high school English teacher.  Simply put, it may "just be a film" as some are fond of pointing out, but it's one which is very dear to my heart.  Your edit of this film was a fantastic gift which I'm very thankful for, as it helped rekindle that love.

I know you've touched others with your generosity Ady, like you have with me.  Please know that we're all thinking of you, and that we're here for you.  Please take all the time you need to deal with real life.  We'll still be here.
