It really depends on the movie. A lot of Blu-rays could use it if they had DNR, edge enhancement and incorrect color grading. But for releases from companies like Criterion and Arrow, they don’t need it as much. Also, newer movies tend to not look as good as older ones due to them being shot and finished digitally, usually at not true 4K resolution.
I’ve been rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Sorry about that.
Sorry double post.
Fantasia has had various versions throughout the years. The original roadshow cut was trimmed down for general audiences. It was the widely available version until 2000 when the longer cut was recreated with some alterations.
Are there any VHS or Laserdisc releases of this version available?
I prefer the Corey Burton dubbing of Deems Taylor more than the original audio.
Happy 4th of July everyone. This morning I’m going on a one week trip to Chicago. So I don’t think I will be active or posting until I’m back.
I can’t believe this project is already a year old now.
According to Blu-ray.com, the new Criterion release will be in the 1.66 aspect ratio despite not being the negative or theatrical intended ratio.
Poverty.
It’s definitely a film that has stronger visuals than story.
The first Austin Powers movie is by far my least favorite.
I would imagine it looked similar to the UHD release. The Blu-ray also added too much green and teal.
Somewhere between the UHD and DVD/WOWOW colors would be perfect for me.
While the UHD of JP1 looks like an older master, The Lost World and JP3 appear to have new ones. Also JP1 is not taken from the 3D version as it has less DNR and has mistakes removed for the 3D version.
I agree that some scenes look better in the BD. For example all of the scenes in The Shire have all the warmth and atmosphere sucked out in the UHD. But other scenes such as the mountains do indeed blow the BD out of the water.
Every Back to the Future movie is equally great in my opinion.
I’m glad you’re going with the 1.85 ratio instead of 16:9. Also The Shining BD is in fact 16:9 as well.
I found Napoleon Dynamite very underwhelming when I watched it.
As good as Donnie Darko is, I felt the music was a little out of place, even for the setting.
I would also love an update.
