oh, and also The Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, but while distinctive from each other they are not separate individual entities.

Isn’t that true for all orthodox Christians?

I don’t know who specifically does and doesn’t. I just know there are some denominations that subscribe to the idea that either Jesus is not himself God, but somehow a lesser creation; or that He and the Father are separate Gods. And I don’t agree with that at all. That is, I’m not sure who all follows the idea of the “Trinity”, but among those Baptists also do and I agree.

I am not accustomed to random speaking in tongues, and am therefore not Assembly of God. I believe in the priesthood of the believer and so am not Catholic. I do not value liturgy and so am not Methodist. Baptists also do value baptism by immersion as being obedient in following Christ’s example, but cite the salvation of the thief on the cross as evidence that it is not required.

I was at church this morning and the pastor said “sometimes we like to think of God as our sugar daddy in heaven.” It was viscerally unpleasant to say the least, and just another reason I will be leaving the southern baptist church as soon as I can.

The thing about Baptist churches is that they are rather independent from each other, so just because you dislike (the pastor from) one church, that doesn’t mean another Baptist church is the same, since they do not answer to a unified administrative body that tells them how to manage themselves.

The reasons why I find that I’m Baptist are: 1) I agree with the the concept of priesthood of the believer; 2) I do not assert that baptism is required, but I prefer immersion over sprinkling (however, what matters is if it is meaningful to the person baptized); 3) I don’t really value liturgy; 4) and I’m not accustomed to people randomly speaking in tongues. JEDIT: 5) oh, and also The Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit are all God, but while distinctive from each other they are not separate individual entities.

I really wanted to go into the newest Star Wars movie spoiler free, but people on this site have been carelessly referring to the film’s title outside of the spoiler thread, and I consider the title to be a major spoiler. I also saw someone post the movie poster too, and that’s a huge spoiler. I actually saw part of the trailer on Youtube! Now that I’ve been exposed to so many spoilers I just don’t even see a reason to watch the film.

Preferably you should never know what movie you’re seeing or even that you’re going to see a movie. You just wake up one day and everything is dark and suddenly the Star Wars logo appears in front of you and the movie plays. Perhaps the logo should be removed though, to not spoil that it’s a Star Wars movie. In fact, remove all Star Wars tropes, change the actors and the names and the music. And then before the credits it’s written “actually, this was a Star Wars movie, bet you didn’t see that coming!”.

Sounds like a natural progression for Rian’s next Star Wars films.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cocoa
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 cup chopped or broken-up walnuts or pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in saucepan with cocoa and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a large bowl. Whisk in eggs, one at a time. Stir in vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, nuts and salt. Add to the cocoa-butter mixture. Stir until just combined.
  4. Pour into a greased 8 x 8-inch-square pan. Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake; the brownies should be gooey. Let cool, then cut into bars.

Art is political, amigo 😉

How did I know this is where this was heading…

Might as well start talking about Trump in Random Thoughts then.

You brought it upon yourself. Better I get it out of my system now. Trump should be contained!

There’s a difference between discussing films from a political perspective and discussing films just in general (without regard to their politics). Only one of those should take place in this thread, otherwise you’re suggesting forum anarchy.

Oh hai chyron.

I did not hit her. I did not.

It’s bullshit.

Still though, you did share Warb’s position and quoted some things he said, things that he decided to leave private for a reason. Like Possessed said, his private thread is private. Or would you like me to basically post the first 20 posts of the thread here?

Not everything everyone ever says in a private setting is automatically sensitive to the point of secrecy. Some things are sensitive. Some are not. Talking about Kimmel or Superman is not sensitive.

Hahahahaha priceless.

All of it.

But especially the idea of hiring a black actor in whiteface, and chyron posting everything in public.

I love this forum.

It’s not like it’s some big secret. It was just some random conversation we had.

JEDIT: Seriously. It’s not like I’m betraying confidences by saying we talked about what Kimmel said. People even suggested we could talk about it public but we just didn’t anyway.

Whatever’s going on in your guy’s private threads makes no sense to me. Maybe you should all stop being in private threads?

It’s more fun guessing what they’re talking about though.

I’m imagining Christopher Reeve in whiteface.

There was a discussion about Jimmy Kimmel’s comments about a black Superman. It was suggested the reason why Superman being cast by a black person is a bad idea, is because Superman’s appearance is iconic. The importance of making the character on film recognizable and instantly believable and such.

Then someone had the idea of hiring a black actor for the role (to be inclusive of minorities) but to use realistic white makeup to keep to the character’s expected appearance. That idea was just about universally panned. I cited RDJ from Tropic Thunder as a white person realistically made up as black, but that was dismissed as deliberately humorous. I couldn’t disagree, having not seen the film.

Somewhere in there, it was pointed out that there are in fact black Supermen (John Henry Irons’ “Man of Steel”, and Superman from Earth-23), and that just about ended the discussion with people saying Kimmel is ignorant about the existence of such characters.

I also said that more black characters should be created rather than taking current iconic characters and making them black. I likened it to rebooting Star Wars and casting a black Luke Skywalker. But at least one person said they didn’t understand why whether someone was famous or not would be important to race-swapping them.

I like the top one better actually

I don’t like the mass of white space. The poster itself is easy to replace. Often times I do actually store multiple different art for book/shows/movies on my server and I switch them out if or when I feel like it.

I’ve become adept enough from making cover art for fan edits that the hardest part in making a good cover is finding decent HD posters that crop well to a square shape. Adding text is super easy.

Tried multiple times to get into Cephrael’s Hand by Melissa McPhail, but just couldn’t get drawn in to it. Still listening to War and Peace, but at the rate of a “book” between every other novel I listen to.

I’m now up to having finished book 4 of The Land/Chaos Seeds LitRPG series. The narrator for it is Nick Podehl, and I like his narration a lot. He also is the narrator for Cephrael’s Hand which makes me somewhat sad to feel I can’t get into it.

So… having looked at other books by Nick Podehl (and also books published by Podium Publishing who published the Expeditionary Force series and The Martian) I started listening to Free the Darkness, King’s Dark Tidings book 1.

Fantastic story, and I’m only on Chapter 4 so far.

I hope everyone will stop saying “Breath of the Wild has no music” now.
The soundtrack is five discs.
And I want it.

Yes, BOTW does have music, but most of it is not catchy or at all memorable.

That’s totally false.

No it’s not.

Yes, it is.

No it’s not. 😉
