Actually that’s just false. There are plenty of dangerous people who cross the border illegally, just like there are dangerous people in country legally. Dangerous people and non-dangerous people sneaking through are not mutually exclusive.

There are dangerous people. Period. Whether or not a few of them exist in a group that crosses the border has little point. We already have lots of dangerous people in this country who were born in this country. It’s paranoia to single out illegal immigrants as some sort of significant threat worthy of mobilizing armed forces. As though there isn’t something better the Guard could be doing.

You just admitted that what you said was false

I did? Which part of what I said?

Citation also needed for it being false.

JEDIT: Oh, you mean that caravans do exist? Sure. Okay. People cross the border illegally all the time. That doesn’t make one specific occurrence of it special, or worthy of military action. And it doesn’t mean Trump still isn’t pulling the idea to do something about it out of his butt or on a whim from what someone said because they said it recently enough.

You also believe that the caravan is not dangerous

I believe there is no caravan.

Did you read the story?

Oh. I admit I hadn’t.
…So now I did.

I’m still assuming whatever ideas Trump has he pulls out of his ass (or out of the ass of the person who most recently talked to him) regardless of whether or not there’s data to support it. Forget actionable intelligence, just real data that isn’t wingnut conspiracy theory.

I believe there is no caravan. There are people who sneak across the border, yes. Are they dangerous? No. Is there one happening right now that the National Guard is specifically going to intercept? No. Does this warrant the mobilization of military troops? No.

It’s a stupid idea drummed up by paranoid white nationalists.

he may want to stop it.

he’s probably hoping they pour over the border and murder a bunch of stupid women so he can say how right he was, and also that way a bunch of women would be dead.

That train of thought has too long a track though. More likely he just pulls ideas out of his butt; or that someone else (intelligent or not) had an idea, and since they were the last one to talk to him he said “let’s go with it.”

Wouldn’t I believe what?

Did you read my post? I was saying that perhaps Trump is moving military forces to the border in order to stop the caravan, because he obviously doesn’t like it.

That suggests that such a caravan exists. And it also suggests that he isn’t doing it just to do it whether or not he believes it.

You give Trump too much credit by suggesting he has rational reasons for doing the things he does and/or that his reasoning is genuine.

having looked at other books by Nick Podehl, I started listening to Free the Darkness, King’s Dark Tidings book 1.

Fantastic story, and I’m only on Chapter 4 so far.

Finished Book 2 of King’s Dark Tidings. Still amazing.

Then got through another section (Book 9 so far) of War and Peace. War and Peace so far is… an interesting listen, but would likely be quite a boring read. For one thing, characters sometimes speak untranslated French. For another, it seems more like a journal of events rather than a tale, since there isn’t a clear plotline. The story is basically of the lives of certain Russian aristocrats during the time of Russia’s war against Napoleon.

[JEDIT:] I read a review, prior to starting War and Peace, that the epilogues(!) are super long and more an analysis or commentary on the human condition or whatever it was. It was advised to just skip them and stop reading when I reach the end of the main body of the text, which will cut down on the length of the book considerably. …So I deleted the epilogue sections from my audiobook entirely when I was chapterizing it. [/JEDIT]

Now, on a whim, I’ve started a different book. Dune.

The misquote random thought out of context thread.
Time

I don’t think you understand the definition of the word “context.”

“Taking something out of context” means looking at an event, conversation, et al., in and of itself without considering other things around it that relate to it, and in doing so drawing the wrong conclusion of what it meant.

Taking a quote from someone and changing it entirely has nothing to do with context. Misrepresenting what someone said or putting words in their mouth is not the same as being out of context.

Hence why both of you are doing it wrong.

I just expect people to not degrade me by demanding that I alter my appearance for them.

When people tell you that you should smile more, they are not demanding that you alter your appearance for them. They are saying that they find your smiling face pleasant and request that you display it.

It is easier to tolerate the general stresses of life when one is not hanging around people who grump. Having friends who are happy when you are around them helps ones mood.

Have these people seen mfm’s “smiling face”?

I haven’t been able to beat any of the 2D Zeldas. I suppose that’s because the 3D Zeldas are a lot more linear, so I can just breeze through them without having to think too much.

I played the 2D Zeldas when they were newly published. Back then, Nintendo Power magazine was a thing people used to have. So strategy guides and hints and stuff weren’t hard to come by. Plus, I’d been known to call the Nintendo Power Hotline now and then. I still remember the phone number.

It’s not cheating to use a walkthrough or guide for a game—especially a nonlinear one, or if you intend to 100% it.
