If he had, what the heck would would we have done with our free time and disposable income the past 36 years?

A world without Star Wars is not a pleasant concept.

I am of the opinion that Lucas had nothing to do with SW; he might have been nothing more than just a hired hand for the first film and later revised history to make it look like he was the mastermind of the whole franchise. It's like saying Star Trek would not have existed without Rick Berman.

What is it with Ricks?

I kinda thought Star Trek "Nuked the fridge" when they introduced speed limits into TNG.

Instead of lines like...

"Warp 9.7 now ensign!!!" "But Captain, she'll fly apart sir!" "Dammit, fly her apart then!"

We got:

"Warp 2.5 Mr Data, and no faster mind you. We don't want to break any Starfleet Health and Safety regulations now do we. Afterall I'm sure the Aliens we are pursuing will have adopted a similar code of practice"

You must not be aware that the reason why Voyager has tilting nacelles and why the Enterprise-E is narrow and long (compared to Enterprise-D) is because creating an elongated warp field keeps it from causing damage to subspace.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

Seriously. When was the last great Trek movie before (2009)?

Star Trek VI, that's what.

People hated Generations because Picard was too moody and Data was too comical. People hated First Contact because it was too dark. People hated Insurrection because it might as well have been a 2-part TNG episode. People hated Nemesis because Data was killed (despite Data explicitly saying during the episode "Time's Arrow" that he didn't want to outlive his friends) while others hate it because B4 somehow allows Data to not be killed (again, despite "Measure of a Man" stating that the flavor of Data's memories should be lost.)

Aaand... people hate Trek 2009 because it's too much like Star Wars.

Again, Trek fans don't know what the hell they want.

Time

The Trek fanbase has no idea what it wants. When DS9 came out, people complained because it was a Babylon 5 clone; When Voyager came out, people complained because it was like a rehash of TNG, but with a captain they didn't like; When Enterprise came out, people complained that it had too much fanservice and also that it was again a rehash of TNG.

Enterprise was a wonderful show, but it was cancelled after 4 seasons for low ratings.

Trek needed change. It needed something new to attract new fans, and JJ Abrams did that with flying colors. No matter what anyone did in making the next Trek movie, a ton of people would bitch and moan, because the Trek fans are too divided on what the heck they think makes Trek good.

Case in point: I've read on many a site how a lot of people are in love with the idea of Khan Noonien-Singh (from Star Trek II) being in a new Trek movie. But you mark my words, if he is, then a crap ton of fans will call the movie an unoriginal rehash, while others bitch about how Ricardo Montalban was way better.

Star Wars is the polar opposite. Star Wars VII isn't being made for new fans, so much as it's being made for old fans who want a reason to love their favorite franchise again. In fact, JJ Abrams is a fan of the OT, so I don't see that he would be nearly as bad a choice as having George Lucas.

Did the same for the Dooku scene ("Sith are our speciality...My powers have doubled....etc).

Palpy's dialogue in tempting Anakin to kill Dooku was trimmed and done off screen to hopefully give a better impression of Palpy's manipulation and temptation of Anakin.

Yeah, I noticed that.

A lot of other faneditors remove Palpy's goading entirely, but I like the way you did it. It mirrors the Emperor's dialogue in ROTJ, but he comes off neither as arrogant as in ROTJ nor as obviously evil (to Anakin) as in the theatrical ROTS. It works.

And yeah--"our speciality" doesn't really fit when the Sith had been in hiding for a thousand years (plus it sounds kinda dumb), and "my powers have doubled" is a terribly delivered line.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

If anyithng, I would say the clone troopers glowing is inconsistent with the stormtroopers not glowing. Not the other way round.

That is to say... I think about the stormtroopers battling on the Blockade Runner, and then I think about the clone trooper army battling droids on Geonosis... and the OT rings superior in believability and realism to me.

It is a pretty cool idea, though.

Info Wanted: Emperor Palpatine -- Sith form "reveal" vs. force lightning backfire?
Time

I've been going back and comparing L8wrtr's Sith reveal vs Kerr's Sith reveal, and the problem with L8wrtr's lies how the lighting is handled.

In L8wrtr's edit, the lights are flickering in and out, and it's very obvious that he could only have made the "reveal" off camera.

Stankpac's most recent update to his edit, as I recall, adds loud heartbeats with too much LFE, and a very loud thunderclap, which is very distracting.

Kerr, whose idea this was originally anyway, has the lights flicker and go out. When Palpatine electrocutes armless-Windu, he apppears normal ("power!); the lights flicker and go out completely ("unlimited..."); and when they come back up ("POWER!") he is wrinkly. Very barely when the lights are out can you make out that he is perhaps already wrinkly, but it's hard to tell exactly. The sequence is very, very well done.

(Unfortunately, this scene alone doesn't win me over with Kerr's edit, as the edit overall does have other technical problems.)

So, I suppose what this means is that a Sith-form reveal by Palpatine can indeed be believable and sensical. It just has to be edited properly.

Hi

I'm brand new to all of this and was intrigues by the idea of Q2's tweaks. I've had trouble finding a non-malicous torrent and am now using usenet but am having trouble downloading the NBZ file - only part one of ep 1 downloads and without audio.

Does anyone have any tips or links to a reliable site they could PM me. After watching the Phantom Edit and Attack of the Phantom I'm really intrigued to see where Fall of the Jedi goes.

Cheers

Non-malicious torrent?

try Myspleen. Their torrents are not malicious. In fact, I uploaded the AVCHD version of FOTJ Episode III to Myspleen, myself.

I love Willow.

Although it's yet another testament to how unoriginal Lucas is, since it very obviously takes quite a lot from The Lord of the Rings.

Find me a fantasy film that doesn't rip of Lord of the Rings to some extent. That said, I think George ripped himself off, as nearly every character is a fantasy equivalent of a Star Wars character.

yeh, Willow just took things from one of the early drafts for Star Wars. He did tinker with the idea of having the main characters for SW as dwarfs. You've got all the main characters from SW in there; Willow is Luke, Madmartigan is obviously Han Solo, Sorsha is Leia, Bavmorda is Vader, Raziel is Obi-Wan.

I don't know whether to laugh or be horrified by imagining the Original Trilogy featuring Luke, Leia, Han, Vader and Obi-Wan as Ewoks.

It drives me nuts when Wookiee is misspelled. Especially when it's someone on the Lucasfilm payroll. ;)

For most other misspellings me & my OCD feel the same (most will know about my particularly strong dislike for the misspelling of the BD acronym).

But I tend to misspell "Wookiepedia" - deliberately, just to piss off EU-nerds and TFn members.

My OCD and I*

If "I" would be used alone ("For most other misspellings, I feel the same"), then "I" would be used in combination with another noun.

I've just finished Re-editing Episodes I-III, now what? (Released)
Time

Well, most people prefer something immediately burnable, like DVD or AVCHD.

If you're using a video file for now, I recommend MKV (more versatile) or M4V/MP4 (compatible with Apple devices). Most people around here would say MKV is best between the two. In either case, the video codec used should probably be H.264

Also, you should add info to the description section of your torrent, such citing as the sources you used to make the edit, and what changes you made.

If anything, I would put this (from your OP on this thread) into the description:

Here's just a few of my changes:

- ROTJ Fox and Lucasfilm logos used in all 3 films.

- Jar-Jar is no longer annoying! There's less of him, he has a new voice, new character, new subtitles and he's now a Gungan Warrior Prince and Boss Nass is his father!

- Young Anakin is also no longer annoying! He's brave, he's an amazing pilot, he never says "Oops" and he takes part in the battle of Theed on purpose (Not by Accident!).

- No mention of "Medicloreans" or uses of the phrase "Younglings" at any point!

- Almost all deleted scenes are fully or partially re-instated.

- All Lightsaber Duels are tighter, closer and faster in-line with the OT.

- Anakin is no longer a complete d**k in AOTC. He's heroic yet vulnerable. You actually like him!

- Padme and Anakin slowly fall in love in AOTC (Instead of spending the whole film spitting venom at each other).

- All dialogue has been trimmed line-by-line for god-awful-misjudge-ness e.g. "You're the kindest boy in the galaxy" and "This Parties over"

- Any terrible Digi-Doubles have been kept to a minimum.

- Young Boba is surly and doesn't speak.

- No pointless and over long CGI shots e.g. the full 360 of Obi on that Lizard thing.

- Less clowning around yet more humour.

- A few OT hero-music stings ("Dah da da da daaah")

- Yoda v Palpatine and Obi v Anakin are largely seperated in ROTS.

- Padme does not die from a bl**dy broken heart! She dies because Anakin actually does fatal damage to her in his jealous rage.

- And most importantly, Anakin is never named as Vader or shown in the suit to save that surprise for ESB.
