I mean, because honestly if you wanted ANYTHING, I could just change a cover I already have made for ROTJ so that, on the top of the front, it says 35mm LPP GRINDHOUSE EDITION" in small, unobtrusive print instead of “ORIGINAL THEATRICAL EDITION”, and on the back at the bottom it says the word “Grindhouse” in tiny letters where it usually says “Despecialized”.

Or I could just do the latter (change the tiny text on the back), and that’s it. That is, if you wanted anything.

So tell me what you want. I know what you want is for someone to make a cover for themselves, make their own design decisions about it, and then share it with you. Well, you can’t have that yet because no one had made it yet. And if someone is making it for themselves alone, then they are in no hurry to finish it for the purpose of sharing. Plus, I don’t have the Grindhouse Editions, nor would I burn them if I had, since I use Plex Media Server for watching my movies.

So if you want something soon, and you can’t do it yourself, you either have to wait for someone to eventually get around to sharing something–which, as I’ve discovered with Fall of the Jedi covers, could very well be never–or you could be part of the design process and say what you’re interested in it looking like.

No, it’s not too much to ask.

I’m just saying, your phrasing was bad.

Also, I’m quite picky about making sure my trilogy sets match. Therefore, I’m interested to know what your SW and ESB cases look like. Even if it’s a variation on a theme, it shouldn’t look out of place when put next to the others, in my opinion. After all, Return of the Jedi isn’t a standalone film.

Seriously. There are several styles of box art here for Despecialized. There are CBS-FOX covers; covers with (I think) European ratings; covers with white spines, others with black, and still others that are red or blue or green; covers with '94 VHS Faces art; covers with Drew Struzan posters; covers like mine which have not much more than an Opening Crawl on the back; and covers with a ton of release-specific information.

What exactly type of Cover are you looking for? If you want me to make one, which I absolutely will do, saying “anything will do” is not enough information.

JEDIT: If you even said something like “I like this ROTJ poster; I like the back of that cover but it has the wrong information, and I really do kinda want Grindhouse release-specific info; and I want it to say ‘Grindhouse Edition’ or something like that on the front but not on the spine”, then that’s enough to be going on with.

can someone here please help me with a cover for HARMY PROUDLY PRESENTS RETURN OF THE JEDI - GRINDHOUSE 35mm LPP. all help greatly appreciated

Help with what? Help you find one? Help you make one? What sort of cover design?

I mean, you could take any of the Despecialized ROTJ covers and edit them in GIMP to say Grindhouse 35mm or whatever. There are lots of different Poster designs for ROTJ; not to mention how you want the spine to look, and whether you want it to be white or black, or whatever else.

You can’t just say “I need help with a cover” and mean “someone needs to make me one from scratch, with no further design input, and quickly.” No one will help you if you mean that.

Making a cover often takes several hours of work, especially if there aren’t existing project assets we still have that we can pull from. It’s not like we can throw something together. Even the covers I made for my cousin, though slightly flawed for my own tastes, took me a long time to tinker with. And then I knew what design I wanted. If I wanted to fix those problems, it would have taken quite a bit longer to make.

What exactly are you looking for? Be specific.

Now, if you were to ask “Does anyone have a ROTJ Grindhouse cover that they can share with me?”, then that’s a different request than “help me with it.”

JEDIT: The issues I refer to are things such as:

  • The posters I used for the front covers are made such that using them here cuts Vader off above the neck at the top of 3 of the covers. It works out better for the Q2 Episode 3 though, because the suit was cut from the movie.
  • The poster I used for ROTS was actually unfinished, as it said “Attack of the Clones” instead. I fixed it, but the only fonts that I could find cut the very top of some letters in the subtitle off. I don’t know why they did that, but I couldn’t easily correct it.
  • The Emperor is not in Ep 4.

But my cousin probably won’t examine it as closely as that. Next time, I’ll use a better poster, and create my own TFA-style titles so that I can position the posters properly.

Info Wanted: Is there an edit of the Original Trilogy already out?
Time

Cursory search of fanedit.org/ifdb doesn’t turn up any fanedits that are a single, OT-combining film except The Man Behind The Mask’s “Star Wars 30’s Serial Edition: Part 2”, which has no voices.

I do recall at one point watching a fanedit that combined all 6 films into one long one, but I don’t now remember what it was called and it wasn’t very good. The flash-forward segments which transitioned from one prequel to the next were jarring; and the OT moments flew by so quickly I kept wanting it to slow down and take time to flesh out the OT story more.

I’m not saying Star Wars isn’t good. It’s fun, it’s colorful, and it’s humorous. It has adventure, character and action.

But it does supposedly outright steal ideas from Flash Gordon and such; the Force is only barely fleshed out; neither of the two major antagonists (Tarkin and Vader) are given much backstory, besides Vader having killed Anakin; and the Empire is oppressive, fear-mongering and violent, as a means unto itself.

It’s an adventure. It’s fun. It’s cool. And I’ve watched it dozens of times. But on its own, it’s not particularly deep. Now that I think about it, most of the depth belonging to the film is brought about through the character of Ben Kenobi–this old wise, inconspicuously powerful sage.

That’s why people like Empire Strikes Back so much–because it adds so much depth to the characters and the world around them. Then Return of the Jedi turns right around and is another classic adventure flick with a predictably happy ending.

The Force Awakens certainly has more depth than A New Hope. Rey’s backstory is more of a mystery than Luke’s; Kylo Ren’s unstable volatility makes him a deeper, more layered character than Vader; and there is a wider array of major and minor protagonists, given that the original ones reappear.

I was making a joke in reference to this post. Saying that “Harmy and friends” sounds like a tv show.

It makes me think of “Garfield and Friends” from back in the day.

Where Harmy is Garfield, constantly trying to mail Frink to Abu Dhabi; Adywan is Orson Pig who hangs out with Sheldon (the chick that never fully hatches), a living “Han in Carbonite” prop that similarly inexplicably never gets finished (or maybe actually Han, in carbonite, who inexplicably never completely thaws).

(I liked TFA way better than the PT but sadly it’s a movie I barely have nothing to say about: it’s just a ride with no depth).

I believe TFA will be given more depth as a result of what happens in the rest of the Sequel Trilogy. Because really, A New Hope, by itself without the rest of the OT, is similarly only marginally deep at best.

I don’t agree at all, but moreover, if we put depth aside, ANH is more fun and creative than TFA (and by a long range). I nevertheless agree that EpVII will probably be stronger as the first chapter of the entire Sequel trilogy than it could be on its own (the first 30 minutes are quite good in fact, the rest is just rehash).

As far as creativity is concerned, Star Wars was supposedly a clumping together and rehash of already established ideas from various shows and movies George grew up with. It’s fun, yes, but creative only in the sense that a new universe was created and populated with interesting characters and a particularly cool weapon. The fact that Episode VII is a follow up story in an established, and previously floundering franchise (given that, without OT.com, we’d be stuck with a crap PT and badly re-edited OT), it limits the level of creativity which one is allowed to use in telling a story and still call it both good on its own and a good addition to the series.

I’m a big Star Trek fan. I know all about how fans are nigh impossible to please when it comes to new franchise content. “Oh, but the JJ-verse sucks!” they say. To which I could reply with “Look, you hated DS9 because it was too much like Babylon 5 and not enough like TNG. Then you hated VOY because it was too much like TNG and not enough its own self. Then you hated ENT because it had too much fan service. Now you hate the reboots because they’re too much like Star Wars.” Give me a break.

In sum, it is my opinion that with VII they’re damned if they do and they’re damned if they don’t. It would never live up to the nostalgia people have for the OUT.

[Anakin] still has fascist tendancies but Padmé thinks he’s joking so it’s ok…),

Objectively, a dictatorship is more efficient. If something needs to be done, and quickly, decisions get made without the endless squabbling.

That isn’t to say that it’s better since there is a greater potential for corruption due to so much power, and the ability for one man to lead civilization to ruin, but it is more efficient.

Anakin’s real problem isn’t his political views. It’s that the Council allowed him to get too friendly with Palpatine. Even Windu explicitly says he thinks it’s dangerous, but Obi-Wan trusts Anakin and allows him more latitude than he should have regarding that relationship.

JEDIT: Frankly, I prefer to delete the scene where Anakin turns to Yoda for advice on death (who, honestly, is nearly 900 years old and is absolutely the wrong person for a young adult to ask about it.)

It feels better to me if Anakin doesn’t seek advice from the Jedi at all. He turns to Palpatine because he values Palpatine’s opinion most, second only to Obi-Wan (whose opinion he automatically infers as disapproving and therefore doesn’t confide).

I gave Q2s Prequels and Harmy’s DE to my cousin, Josh, for his birthday on Saturday, and I used 2.5 Recolored for Star Wars.

Awesome!

V1.2 will be up in a couple days. It’s essentially just a BD ISO version with seamless branching selectable crawl.

But I have also replaced a couple of quick shots that were previously purely GOUT based, with TN1’s SSE (that I further cleaned, grain-adjusted, and color corrected myself). The shots in question are one shot in the Mos Eisley entrance sequence, two shots as Luke prepares to board his X-wing (Harmy used a GOUT upscale to remove the Biggs scene), a few diving shots during the battle of Yavin. I’ve also used the SSE for a couple explosions in that battle and the closeup of the torpedos entering the Death Star. The latter weren’t GOUT, but the color should look less altered with TN1’s version.

I am leaving alone anything that Harmy roto

Thanks again for the interest.

What I would really love to have is a BD menu.

I know there’s a DE2.5 BD on the spleen that has menus. Is there a way to mux it into this, or can we get someone to work on making menus for Recolored?

JEDIT: I just thought of something: Star Wars DERP (Despecialized Edition Recolored Project). ;D
