The [Max Rebo] band played at Jabba's Palace during Luke Skywalker's attempt to free Han Solo and later played at their execution over the Great Pit of Carkoon. The band barely escaped the catastrophe that followed, jumping to safety as the Sail Barge blew apart.

Which version/release of the Star Wars movies do you watch and why?
Time

SW: As much as I watch others, I still reach for the Puggo Grande. This has really brought the movie back to life for me. Saturation, pops, scratches, reel changes, grain, hiss, warts, MONO!, and I feel like a 7 year old. Brilliant. And the Krieg is really fun too.

ESB: Ady's Theatrical Reconstruction.

ROTJ: GOUT or DJ's V1.

Otherwise I still like to pop in the 97SE LDs for old times sake. Need to clear up HD space to check out Harmy's.

I'm actually not really a fan of either scene. The musical number idea does not really fit the film at all. (It may also be because I simply hate musicals..but to each their own.)

The original Lapti Nek sequence fit the laid-back, mysterious and smoky atmosphere of Jabba's Palace almost like some of the musical sequences in Casablanca does for the laid-back, mysterious, and smoky atmosphere of Rick's. The new sequence has CGI aliens coming out at the screen...(soon to be in 3D...oh dear god...) complete with red lips and dripping saliva. It's not the absolute worst thing in the world, but it really doesn't fit the movie at all.

So...bad puppets in the background or bad CGI aliens in the extreme foreground-you take your pick.

New Theory: Steven Spielberg Ruined Star Wars
Time

In the mid 80's Spielberg's positivism hadn't fully been realized. Post Empire of the Sun anything is possible. I don't think he ever had that much influence on SW, but if he had directed ROTJ then things would be completely different. (More ewoks for example.) I do think he made Raiders brilliantly because he knew everything was riding on it for his career to continue. Temple is a simpler serial film that happened to be made in 1984. Last Crusade is a tired and lumbering dinosaur.

As for Indy IV, I'd blame bad scripts, bad choices, both Lucas and Spielberg, David Koepp, and the stupid decision to wait so damn long.

The real question is: Who the hell is lobotomizing our filmmakers?
