"Archiving seminar reveals 'Star Wars' tidbit?" Another SE?!
Time
that battle damaged vader is from the next-gen video game "Force Unleashed" as are the female jedi, female imperial officer, "samurai" jedi (the one with a topnot & metal looking chest armor), black imperial guard (shadow guard), and the two new storm/spacetroopers that look rather mcquarrie-ish.

speaking of McQuarrie, they're doing a whole set of figures based on his preproduction artwork. The first will be a repaint of 2002's concept stormtrooper. But the'll also be doing Vader (with two different style heads), Boba Fett (with one mcq. & one johnston tyle head), Chewbacca, Luke, Han, etc. Images of the Boba Fett, Chewie, Vader, & stormtrooper can be found at various toy sites like rebelscum.com, jeditemplearchives.com, etc.

& Kotobukyuia (sp?) is making a statue based on the famous pre-production painting of Vader fighting Luke. Images can be found at starwars.com.

to me, the film seemed to imply that you had to continue to drink from the grail to remain immortal. That's why the knight's brothers died when they left. That would also require one who wishes to stay immortal to at least visit the temple periodically to continue drinking from it, as the grail itself cannot leave. This would also explain why the last knight was so old.

That's the best one ever!! I would do this, but i don't have an mp3 playe & i have a good bit of stuff on cd that i don't have on my computer & vice versa so it wouldn't really be as easy to do if i wanted to use my entire music collection... oh well.

I have always been a proponent of how cool it would be to have your own personal soundtrack that plays for everyone to hear wherever you go....

Idea & Help Wanted: Godzilla 1985 HD2DVD edit?
Time

I’m as big a fan of Godzilla as i am of Star Wars. Monsters HD has been airing Godzilla 1985 occasionally. It’s significant b/c it’s HD, in the original aspect ratio. While the Japanese version of the film is readily available in good quality from Japan, this American cut is only available on VHS & Laserdisc, in a pan&scan version that’s actually cropped on all four sides. I would love to capture this & put it on dvd, but i don’t have the equipment, know-how, or access to Monster HD that i would need to accomplish this.

If someone out there that gets this channel could capture it & put it on dvd, i would be eternally grateful, as would a lot of other Godzilla fans out there. This was my favorite Godzilla movie as a kid &, while i have a subtitle copy of the japanese version which i find to be the better film, this americanized version has practically disappeared due to quetsions of distribution rights ownership. It’s very likely that it may never be released on any current or next-gen home video format, which is a shame b/c it’s the version that i, & many other fans grew up with. While i find the original Japanese cut to be the better film, this version holds a ton of nostalgia & has a few changes that i think are improvements, such as the ending narration by raymond burr.

If anyone out there can help, you’d be the man!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

The '06 GOUT has better black levels. Infact, watching Star Wars the other day on my 30" HDTV, i was surprised at how good it looked. It has all the problems of the LD transfer, but i was pretty shocked when i realized during the TIE attack on the Millennium Falcon, there were NO visible grabage mattes. In fact, no garbage mattes were visible through any of the space scenes. They were there if you turned up the brightness, but i used the THX setup feature on the disc to calibrate my monitor, then turned up the color about 4 or 5% so it wasn't quite so washed out looking & it looked great (not astoundingly, but noticably better than my DC boxset, which i watch on the same tv). Of course, this didn't address the resolution, grain, DVNR, and other problems, but for what it is, it looked very nice. This is, btw, the first time i've watched any of the GOUT all the way through, before this, i had just popped them in & watched various scenes/clips.

What did the Prequel Trilogy need?

I like the idea of Vader disappearing while still Ben's apprentice and then returning as a Sith Lord

I actually would've liked to see anakin & ben be great friends who slowly grow apart as their beleifs & ideals about the situation of the galaxy diverge over time. While palpatine would be a key influence in anakin's turn, i think it would've worked really well to actually have the official "turn" be in a final heated arguement with obiwan that devolves into the duel at the top of a volcano. Then, he wouldn't actually become darth vader until he's encased in the suit after being rescued by the emperor. This would also seal his loyalties b/c obiwan would have left him for dead right after the fight that sealed the deal of his turn, while papls came to his rescue. It would also mean he wouldn't kneel before the emperor in some confused, awkward moment, but with total loyalty. That would actually make a cool "chrisening" scene. Right after he's been rescued, the first thing we see him do in his new body armor, would be kneel before his new master & pledge his allegiance. You could really make it a chrisening by having him named Darth Vader in that scene.

That's we we're doing. Gomer imagines that off-camera during those 20 years together Palpy never brought up the Rule of Two to Vader. Others (myself included) imagine that during those 20 off-camera years some discussion of the Rule took place.

I am also asserting that Anakin (pre-Vader) was aware of the Rule of Two, based on occurrences in the PT.

MTV Interview and New Favorite Movie
Time
Heh Heh. You're method of choosing favorites just baffles me. I'm assuming you're the same guy that chose his fav. movie based on his fav. game, but i think you used a different name then....

It seems so odd i guess, because generally people don't conciously choose their favorite things (at least, i know i don't). It just sort of happens. I didn't sit down & pick ESB as my favorite movie of all time. It just IS, b/c no other movie captivates me & entertains me to the same extent. It can almost be likend to an addiction. Having seen it, i can't not think about it regularly b/c it just stuck with me as being so good. Likewise, even if i made a concious effort to like another movie more, it would just be a farce. My innate tendancy is to always return to ESB as being the movie that i gain more enjoyment from than any other. There's nothing i can do to change that.

So, the concious decision to flit from one favorite to another just seems so completely alien! Especially when that decision is made b/c of what someone else said. What others say, do, or think has almost no* bearing on my personal favorites.

So, that being said, i say don't pick your favorite based on what Lucas or anyone else says, name your favorite based on what you personally enjoy and find the most gratifying. That is, after all, the very nature of "favorite".

*I say almost no bearing b/c there is the rare circumstance where someone's external input can affect my personal enjoyment & therefore favorite. A hypothetical example: I enjoy ESB so much b/c i think the characters are real people experiencing real events. Someone shows me that, these are in fact actors in an imaginary universe,. Lightsabers aren't real. The spaceships are models. I suddenly lose a huge amount of the entertainment value i had b/c the very reason i enjoyed it has been shown to me to be false. A far fetched example, to be sure, but i think it gets the idea across.

About the cave on Dagobah...
Time
While i'd have to go back to watch the scene & double check that they do, infact, go through the same door, Vader gives his goons the order to "see to it that [luke] finds his way to the carbon freezing chamber" or something to that effect. So i've always assumed they locked all the doors that went anywhere but the carbon freeze chamber & had the other doors open at the appropriate times to "guide" him there.

Has technology accelerated that much?
Time
you are. I've hooked my ps2 up to a 16x9 tv with composite & it will properly display in 16x9 mode. What it won't do is progressive scan. That has to be component.

EDIT: as for FZ's question, i don't know. I've messed around with the apsect ratio settings on my ps2 while hooked up to a 4:3 tv & i've noticed it doesn't always do what i'd expect when it's put on the "incorrect" setting. Don't know why though. I've never had any trouble getting it to display properly on 4:3 or 16:9 tvs. so i've never really cared. Oh, & just FYI, i had one of the launch models for a long timel. It was fried by lightning 6 months ago & i've since replaced it with one of the slim units. Both performed identically.
