Yeah, I wouldn’t have expected you to understand or agree with that opinion because (and I mean no personal offense by this) you kinda have a similar personality.

It wasn’t her ideas that bothered me, but the way she’s CONSTANTLY and forcefully “bible thumping” everyone around her with her own (almost always unsolicited) beliefs. I find that really obnoxious, whether I agree with said beliefs or not.

I didn’t hate her as a character, and I don’t mind there being characters that I personally don’t love (variety is a good thing). But she was annoying (thankfully not in an insufferable Jar-Jar kind of way) and I rolled my eyes at her more than once.

Oh, and all the implied sexual stuff was just weird and unnecessary, which also didn’t help my opinion of her as character.

Kinda like The Last Jedi, I’m not sure exactly what to think of this movie. Darth Maul really KILLED the mood for me. Like, I felt my stomach turn as soon as I realized who it was. I was disgusted (and still am)!

I thought it started a bit slow and took some time to find its footing. Once it did I was quite enjoying it. Then Maul happened and everything fell apart.

I loved Chewie and pretty much everything involving him. He was about as perfect as I could have hoped for and was truly the highlight of the movie for me.

I thought Han and Lando were both good. Not great, but pretty darn good. I don’t have any problem buying these new actors as the classic characters.

Lando’s droid was grating. I thought her design and visual fx execution was awesome, but her personality sucked. But I don’t enjoy people in real life who constantly beat you over the head with their personal idealologies and beliefs so I’m not surprised that I thought a movie character like that was just obnoxious.

I liked the Droid rebellion in theory but in execution it just wasn’t as funny as they clearly wanted it to be. Which was actually an issue throughout the movie for me. The humor just didn’t land, where it should’ve been on par with Raiders of the Lost Ark or ESB in that regard.

The Falcon was handled quite well. No complaints there. The train robbery and Kessel run were both solid action pieces.

So I guess overall I enjoyed the middle of the film a fair bit, but the beginning and ending (not just the Maul bit, but that was certainly the most egregious) both kinda fell on their faces.

Does anyone have recommendations for a burner that will work with Windows vista (don’t hate me, it’s what I’m stuck with) and can burn 50Gb dual layer discs?

Oh and it needs to be external with USB connection…

Were I lucky enough to receive a invite, any big city in Texas would be great. But honestly, assuming my work schedule doesn’t conflict with the date(s), it’s possible I could make it to almost any major U.S. city.

Viewing in light of the whole trilogy and not just within the confines of ANH, I always kinda assumed it went down like this:

Han was enroute to Tatooine with a shipment of spice for Jabba. The Star Destroyers that were in orbit (the same ones that chase them as they leave Tatooine) or some smaller ships dispatched from said Star Destroyers intercept and board the Falcon as it approaches the planet. Han obviously dumps the cargo at some point prior to being boarded. He passes the inspection and lands safely in Mos Eisley. He’s got no money thanks to failing his delivery so he’s now looking for a way to get off planet ASAP. Which explains why he’s hanging out “where most of the best pilots can be found”. He needs a job and quick! Which also explains why he takes such obviously risky passengers.

In the meantime, Jabba gets wind of Han’s failure and immediately puts out a bounty on him and people like Greedo start combing the most likely places to find him.

So, in typical “Han” fashion, it’s not some long drawn out drama. All of that happened VERY recently and it was a whirlwind, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants adventure that led him to even consider taking the job of carrying Luke and Co. which then led to the next wild adventure rescuing the princess and so on, etc. etc.

ALSO: it’s worth considering the deleted scene that had Jabba living on Tatooine even in ANH. While it may not have been in the final cut of the film, as far as George was concerned Jabba was located on Tatooine long before ROTJ made it canon. Heck, it was in the comics (and novel?) back then. Which means it HAD to be something along the lines of my ideas above all along.

No worries, I can only imagine how busy your life is!

Just finished getting the 1080p copy. I’ll be uploading it to my iPad tonight so I can get a preview glimpse, but I’ll have to order some dual layer BD-Rs and find a time when I can visit my friend and mooch his Blu-ray burner before I can properly view this on my big tv at home.

So pumped! Great job to all involved!

Also, totally random thought… Willarob (or anyone else who knows), is the “negative-one” moniker a reference to the character of the same name in the “Countdown” episode of The IT Crowd? I rewatched that one recently and did a double-take when I caught that guy’s name.

Isn’t there an accent mark over the “e” in official publications? Which would make it “OH-lee-AY”?

And it WAS a new story. Nobody said new stories have to be set in a dramatically different time from the OT.

I’ve always been quite partial to Star Wars: Bounty Hunter on the PS2. It’s not perfect but there aren’t really any other Star Wars games like it and the concept is very cool.

Other than that Rogue Squadron 3 for the GC and Shadows of the Empire on the N64 are absolutely killer.

Oh man, I forgot about Bounty Hunter. Yes, that game was awesome! Possibly the best thing to come out of the prequels, actually. Had a very OT feel.

It’s a shame we don’t get awesome single player games with great stories like that, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and even X Wing: Alliance very often anymore…

Based on what we’ve seen, I’m fine with the new guy as Han. It’s like people described the CG Tarkin. I didn’t buy that as Peter Cushing, but I DID buy it as the character of Tarkin.

I don’t buy this new guy as a young Harrison Ford, but I am buying him as the character of Han. He’s got the swagger, the attitude, and the charm. I can totally see this working. Granted, this is still all based on only a few seconds worth of footage from the trailers, but to quote NuHan©️, “I’ve got a good feeling about this.”

Now, I’m not yet convinced by Glover’s Lando. But we’ve seen SO little of him so far that it’s really hard to even begin to make a guess yet.

Because the creative process is both interesting and important.

Personally, I love the final film but I’m also incredibly interested in what could have been. I’d love to see Edward’s first cut. I’d love a great documentary or making-of book that details the production of this film. I also really want to see all the deleted scenes/unused footage (and there’s evidence that there was a LOT of it).

It’d be awesome if Disney put out an ultimate edition on home video that included all those things…

One thing im particularly curious about is how much of the final film is Edwards, and how much is Gilroy? Too bad we’ll probably never know.

I’m also a big fan of Moroff. I also thought this guy from R1 was pretty cool.

Because some people appreciate the larger screen, the (quite rare these days) experience of seeing actual projected film, being in the company of like minded fans for a special event, and many other reasons.

Some people, such as myself, quite enjoy going to the cinema rather than sitting on my couch at home.

I think the point is that it’s not supposed to be positive or negative. At some point, someone misused it, that connotation worked its way into the popular culture, and now being an apologist in internet circles means you defend things that you know deep down don’t have a good defense.

The word “literally” is another great example of something that people misused to the point that it lost its meaning.

But Jay, he literally said in his circles it’s either neutral or positive.

Well, I grew up in and still attend Southern Baptist church. I have friends who are Methodist, Presbyterian, non-denominational, Episcopalian, etc. And apologetics/apologists are generally considered a good thing by all those groups. It’s not about defending “something you really know isn’t true” or “good” or what-have-you. It’s about educating yourself on your faith so that when it is attacked or just politely questioned you are able to explain what you believe and why you believe it. Yes it can be described as “defending” your faith but that is meant in a more courtroom sense of “defense” (i.e. logical discourse about what you think is true) and not the more negative connotation that “defending” a belief often carries with it in common usage.

When calling someone an “apologist” as an insult, the word itself is neither positive or negative. The insult comes from the insinuation that they are wasting time trying to logically explain why something is good, enjoyable, what-have-you when it is quite clearly not.

Nice, I always enjoyed the Thrawn trilogy. Will definitely keep a lookout for good deals on the X-wing novels. I know they reprinted them with the legends banner, but I want to get original soft cover copies in decent shape. I always thought they had beautiful cover art and the legends reprints kinda ruin it a bit by cropping it and slapping that ugly banner across it.

So does anyone know how the related X-Wing Rogue Squadron comic series from Dark Horse holds up? For the same reasons as the novels, I’m looking at buying up the comics. However, unlike the novels, I’ve never read a single issue of the X-wing comics. I liked some of the other Star Wars comics Dark Horse put out back then so I’m guessing I’d enjoy this series too.

I just do not get the infatuation with steelbooks. I’ve got one or two because that was the only (or cheapest) option when I bought a movie. And they’re fine. I mean, it does it’s job as a case and protects the disc. It looks… fine? I don’t particularly like it more or less than the look of a plastic case.

But to ask me to pay extra just for the steel book package? Not a chance. And the insane after market prices to which some of them skyrocket. It boggles my mind.

I mean, really. Honest question. What IS it about steelbooks that people love SOOOO much that they sell out in a day or rise dramatically in price when you can get the same exact disc in a regular case for a normal price?
