6 DVD Box Set for this November
Time
There are plenty of unsold copies of last years OT release on the shelves of stores,we won't get anything more than a repackaged set, after all this is George's current (2004-5) vision of the two trilogies , I think this will be a pretty lazy repackaging effort in a similar way that they released episdoe1 and 2 together in a slipcase box, I'm not sure that George and fox would incur the wrath of fans by offering anything new and unavailable, although it would be cool to see that ugly muppet yoda from episode 1 replaced. I think it's too early for George to start dabbling with his latest trilogy just yet.

Although I did notice that episode 1 & 2 were re-issued on dvd about a month ago in Australia at a heavily discounted price, same packaging nothing changed, so maybe they are trying to run out remaining stock of the current version.

Idea & Info: Prequel Trilogy Preservation???
Time
you know I may not agree with everything GL has done, and you're right 'they are his movies to do with as he pleases' and while I will always prefer the original versions to the special editions, I must admit that I'm always keen to see what new 'so-called' improvements have been made, sometimes he get's it right, mostly he get's it wrong, but at least it lets me see the films 'from a certain point of view!' in a fresh way, and to be honest as long as he keeps the original version always available he can tinker away at his special editions until the cows come home.

The main problem with your question is that in the prequal trilogy Lucas has merely finished and re-inserted scenes into the DVD that were only cut from the theatrical release because of running time constraints, I don't think you'll find too many people complaining about the content of what's been added to the prequal DVD's,apart from the fact that it makes a slow moving film even longer.

Whereas the original trilogy stood as they did in everyone's mind for 20 odd years before George started tinkering with them adding silly slapstick sight gags and new things in and changing existing scenes, with mixed results, and if it wasn't for a cock-eyed Rodian quick-shooter he might have gotton away with it. I don't think you'll find many fans unhappy that an original Biggs scene was resurrected (even if it doesn't quite work without the missing Tatooine /Biggs footage) however with the Jabba scene in A New Hope, Lucas was trying to salvage a scene that was unfeasible at the time and redundant because it's effectively covered in the Han /Greedo exchange. Every other change to the trilogy was added in hindsight once Lucas saw what his crew at ILM could do with a few pixels.

Empire of Dreams - what was your imagined Star Wars story...
Time
I think the republic will gradually transform itself into the Empire as we know it, by episode 4, if you remember in the beginning of a New Hope during the meeting on the death star where Vader does the force-choke, one of the officers says something to the effect of 'if word got out of Leia's capture , it could create sympathy for the rebellian in the 'senate', then Tarkin says 'the Emperor has taken steps to dissolve the senate and remove the last traces of the old republic once and for all' (excuse me if I'm misquoting, I'm relying heavily on my memory of the scene, when I should be working) .

by the end of AOTC Palpatine has already politically manipulated himself into the highest position of power in the Galaxy and been granted emergency powers , once Palpatine turns public opinion against the Jedi by portraying them as the bad guys, and uses his clone army to defeat the trade federation seperatists, he will be perceived as a hero who brought order back to the Galaxy, (how do you think George W got re-elected?) corruption in the senate will continue to grow, as will Palpatines power, and it will be years until the general public realise how corrupt and evil the government have become.

Meanwhile Bail Organa, Mon Mothma etc will continue their work as a voice of reason within the Senate, whilst secretly organising a resistance movement (rebel alliance) against Palpatine and his new order.

in response to Darth Simon

although not having seen the clone wars cartoons yet, I would assume Obi-wan earned the rank of General during the clone wars, as it appears at the end of AOTC that the clones are under command of the Jedi.

I think it will be explained in the next film that Bail Organa was one of the only members of the Republican senate to remain loyal to the Jedi, once Palpatine gives the order for the Jedi to be eradicated, therefore it would make sense that Obi-Wan and the Jedi order served the republic and Bail Organa during the birth of the rebellion, shortly after they were declared public enemy number 1

Hayden replacing Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ
Time
'HE'S MORE MACHINE NOW, THAN MAN. TWISTED AND EVIL'

everything about Darth Vader is designed to instill fear and be menacing, from his helmet, cape, his deep electronically enhanced voice, it would make sense that the Emperor rebuilt him to have a larger and more powerful build, afterall if had the same genetics as his son, he'd be 'a little short for a stormtrooper!'

as far as Hayden appearing in the suit, I beleive it is explained in one of the featurettes on the DVD box set that they actually scaled down the suit to fit his body, and with a bit of careful lighting and camera angles, he'll appear as big and nasty as David Prowse in the original trilogy.

I think it would have been more effective, if Schmi Skywalker had died in the first movie (perhaps, at the hand of Darth Maul), and Qui-Gonn took the orphaned Anakin under his wing (aside from the parallels to A NEW HOPE), if they had cast Anakin closer to Amidala's age, about 15, it would have allowed his character a troubled darker edge much earlier in the story, I always had a problem with the boy who would eventually become Vader ever uttering the word 'Yippieeee!'

And Anakin's return to Tatooine in AOTC just slowed the story down, if he was so concerned for his enslaved mother's wellbeing, then why did he leave her in the first place, let alone wait ten years to return and free her?

Hayden replacing Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ
Time
I just don't know why they didn't just cast someone that would be convincing as a young Sebastian Shaw in the first place, the same way they cast Ewan as a young Alec Guiness, cause Hayden certainly wasn't cast for his ability to act, as far as kids not recognising Shaw as Anakin at the end, it's easy ....20 years after being pulled out of a lava pit how recognisable would anyone be?

DVD Packaging
Time
My biggest issue with the packaging had more to do with the flimsy outer box it came in, I was expecting something a little sturdier and nicer looking, similar to the Indiana Jones set, considering how anticipated this set was and how it was always guaranteed to be a hot seller, they could have put a lot more effort into it, although perhaps it isn't designed to last long.

I Love George Lucas

just getting back to the earlier discussion

You have to admit that when all the prequels are finished and watched along with the new versions of the OT as a 6 part saga, it will be a pretty sweet viewing experience, telling the story of Vader's rise and fall, and it will all slot in nicely

when watching all six films in sequence, it'll have a crap start, pick up by episode 3 (fingers crossed)have an amazing middle section and then fizzle out to a dissapointing finale.

Am I the only one who prefers the old ewok music?
Time
I hate the new music, and I couldn't believe it was John Williams when I heard it, it sounds like nothing else in the whole saga and seems completely out of place. it sounds like cheesey end-credit music from a Manga film.

I don't really have too much of a problem with showing the celebrations on other planets, I always saw it as a montage of events that happen after the fall of the Empire, and not neccesarily at the same time as the Ewok celebration, although there do seem some inconsistencies for instance why are they celebrating on Tatooine? when it was always considered to be too remote a planet for the Empire to be interested, and was under Hutt rule?

and I always assumed that Cloud city would have been abandoned after Lando gave the order to evacuate at the end of Empire.

and lastly, considering theres no reference at all to Naboo in the original trilogy even though it seemed to play such a crucial role in the prequals, George messed up the perfect opportunity to wipe out the planet in catastrophic fashion, considering how the planet seems to have remained completely unchanged in over 30 years from the first film.

What if someone else had played Obi-Wan instead of Alec Guinness?
Time
as far as I know Alec Guiness never hated Star Wars, otherwise he would never have done all three, moreso he resented the fact that after all his fine work and wondrous films he had made in a long and successful career, it would be a 2-bit science fiction film that he would be most remembered for, and in interviews he was only ever asked about Star Wars.

although I did hear that Peter Cushing never allowed his likeness to be used as an Action figure, so thats why there was never a Grand Moff Tarkin action figure until after his death.
