There was a good post showing some issues with Pinocchio somewhere as well but I can't find it. Yeah, it's a shame - especially when we know they CAN and HAVE done right in the past. Fantasia? That looks amazing. If Robert Harris is a fan, then so am I (under most circumstances at least.)

At the risk of being a suck-up I trust Harmy's judgment. He has access to sources we don't, a, and b, it seems he's already putting a LOT more work into 2.1 than he'd planned. Give him time, folks.

Primarily, the colors.

The BD release is closer, but not perfect from what I hear. Also, the DVD is atrocious and has extra scenes.

And for that matter, why did the good guys / bad guys switch laserfire color between the PT and the OT? That always screwed with my head back when TPM first came out.

I was referring to OmegaMattman's re-upload of Molly's theatrical version of Beauty and the Beast. It's a laserdisc rip and the only OAR version available. Plus, there's a few special edition add-ons that still managed to make it into the "theatrical" cut on each release. Minor changes, but still there.

To be fair though that's less strange than msycamore's video-only 97SE being removed.

I don't know what happened to my copy of LM that was just sent only a month ago... I think I lost it :/. If I find it I'll give ripping it a shot, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a bust too.

I heard the movie really drags and that it's obvious the decision to make it a trilogy came in post. Thoughts?

I'm waiting to go home and see it in 48fps myself.

Yeah, I noticed it was removed. Don't know the reason behind it, maybe they deleted it because it was a video only file. But they seem to approve audio only uploads so I honestly don't know...

It was less that he's not going to see Pacific Rim because of that and more that he's just hyped for the latter, I think.

Also the watermark and the fact that I"ve never seen that poster before leads me to think it's a mock-up.

Maybe the really warm look of Crystal Skull really WAS meant to imitate Raiders after all like they said back when it came out. And I agree with Harmy - it looks better on Crusade than Temple for sure.

I dunno if ToD is that warm. It's been a few years, but I saw a 35mm print awhile back and to my memory it more matched the BD than your shots with Colourlike. But you're more in the know about these things.

Has anyone pulled out some LD or VHS rips of pre-THX Raiders to compare with? I see that all the time with Star Wars but I haven't seen that here. While obviously that would be no perfect reference, it would be interesting to see the different looks of home video Raiders - and prove one way or the other if that restoration is as jarring as people said at first.

Yeah, but then the question remains. Why did only Raiders get the full treatment? I know it's the most beloved of the three, but it's pretty jarring moving on to even Temple from this restored colortiming - and there's only something like, what, three years between the two films? Was it filmed on different stock?

A possibly mangled summary of the Sleeping Beauty debacle: the restoration team went directly back to the cels for reference as to how the film should look. However, what's been said is that the cels were overly bright and colorful with the fact in mind that they would be dulled down and subdued when transferred to moving film/release prints/etc. I think the blu has a bit of a neon look going to it, but it didn't turn out as bad as say Cinderella.

Why's everyone being so hard on the Wookie? I say if she thinks he's a gentlemen, whether or not that's true, it sure isn't a bad thing. Certainly better than her just thinking he's cripplingly shy.

Yeah. They're there, but far - far - less pronounced. I think they're similarly quiet on the 2004 SE sound mix as well but I don't have it on hand so I can't check.

Also, just a comment on this song versus Yub Nub. I think I prefer the piece in of itself, but the "teddy bear parade" ending was much more fun than seeing the entire galaxy celebrate. Mainly because I somehow doubt the death of the Emperor is the complete end of the Empire, and it makes more sense to have a subdued celebration among comrades. Pretty sure there was more work to do after that for the Rebels.

In terms of #3 about the vocals, I can tell you it's certainly much more pronounced on the soundtrack CDs than it was on the stereo mix used on my old pan-and-scan tapes. I practically never noticed the kids' voices until I heard that version, and now I can't unhear them :/

Ugh. earhtlink and vonage just do NOT mix. I'm home for the weekend and even trying to watch a single youtube video crashes the DSL line! :<

edit: in fact I'm pretty sure it's just Earthlink fucking up, because it used to work with my wireless router and now it doesn't. I'd love to know how to fix this but tech support from both sides is completely and utterly useless.
