Delete this. And I apologize for my recklessness in my first posts on this site.

i hardly think pullman's god is the father of jesus christ and and spiritual author of the gospels as well as creator of the earth and heavens if a little girl can kill him. LOL yeah right so is this like pullmans admitting to being gay or something?

it's been a long time since I've read the book, but here goes. I was, at the time, not very religious, so I found nothing wrong with it. My friend, who practiced religion and goes to catholic school, also has no trouble with it. I take it as nothing more than a book.
"Pullman portrays the Christian heaven to be a lie. In the third book, the real afterlife is depicted as a bleak place where people are tormented by harpies until Lyra and Will descend into the land of the dead. Through their intercession, the harpies agree to stop tormenting the dead souls, and instead receive the true stories of the dead in exchange for leading them again to the upper world. When the dead souls emerge, they dissolve as they become one with the universe."
There's one problem you may have with it. (taken from wikipedia.) They also treat Lyra's world's God as merely the first angel, however that's wikipedia - from what I read, it only seemed to say that God is not as all-powerful as we think.
"support from other Christians, most notably Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who argues that Pullman's attacks are focused on the constraints and dangers of dogmatism and the use of religion to oppress, not on Christianity itself." His arguments about how the Church can be oppressing can be applied to all religions.
Well, I guess my point is that you can take it offensive if you want - I just take it as a book, IMO written very well.

The Source was one of the worst movies I have ever watched.

You may change your mind as soon as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes out.

You think Indy IV will be worse than Highlander 5? Inconceivable!

I don't think you know what that word means.

Quoted for truth - before I knew him as Luke, I knew him as The Joker; or at least, he was both to me around the same time. I see him as a voice actor more than an actual actor now; but that's not important. I think that his carreer, while not quite as successfull as Ford's after hte movie, had enough that some people can remember him for more than "that one farmboy from Star Wars."

Still, you should at least send a letter; I know I am, and I haven't seen the OOT (save for ROTJ) in widescreen.
Speaking of sending letters, here's mine:

Dear AFI,
I have heard that you are showing the 1977 movie Star Wars as part of the celebration of your fortieth anniversary. I am of the younger generation being fourteen. Despite that, I am interested in seeing the original unaltered version of it - in otherwords, the real 1977 movie; however, I am guessing you will be showing the 1997 revision released by Lucasfilm. I am e-mailing you to protest and ask you to do a proper showing of the original version of Star Wars - known to fans as the original unaltered trilogy. As stated before, I am very intersted in seeing the original version, which I have only seen once on a low-quality recording of the three movies. If you are not planning on doing so, I would like for you to change the date on your description to 1997; that way, you would not be confusing fans such as myself.
Thank you,
Kevin Brennan

DOOM (game) and STAR WARS

I think the biggest problem with the Dark Forces "series" was that they waited so long to add multiplayer. The excuse was always "well, it wouldn't make sense to have Jedi fighting each other or to have Han fighting Leia". Um, who cares if it makes sense, it's a game. When they finally did go multiplayer, it was JK2 which was essentially just Jedi vs Sith. I don't believe they ever made Stormtroopers or anyone else playable characters. I know there were mods for Quake 3 that had stormtroopers, chewie, etc, etc. LucasArts just seemed to be stuck in this mentality of trying to make all the games fit into continuity. That is until Masters of Teris Kasi, which they had to wedge continuity into.

Dark Forces 2 had MP, it was just hard to use unless you had an MSN Zone account.
Plus, JK2 was good in the end - countless mods.
