quick question, has anyone managed to get hold of just the mono audio from Vertigo in the masterpeice collection set (only way to get it)
was going to try and add it to a rip of the legacy version
I presume that the accompanying 35mm audio mix would be taken from the 4.1 soundtrack from the BD
I've sampled some scenes from Jonno's brilliant BD of this pumping the PCM 2.0 through my amp and outputting it as DTS Neo 6 and your right, much better dynamic range, a bit more oompfh as well with the low ends.
I watched Alien on BD just before Prometheus came out and was a tad let down by the DTS-MA 5.1 mix. didn't have a lot of impact
I'm hoping when you've successfully ripped the 5.1 audio from the LD and synched it up to the 2010 BD, it should sound brilliant

I'm certainly up for a V2 if the 5.1 does become available, though in that case it might be easier to sync the picture to the sound rather than vice versa!

if someone was successful to rip the 5.1 audio from the THX laserdisc and sync it up to the 1080P Video from the BD
2 things that i thought of..
1, wouldn't the star fields have to be redone as they were corrected for the 2003 re-release and subsequent HD releases
2, wouldn't the video have to be cropped to 2.20:1 for an authentic 70mm presentation?
since it's just been uncovered that the newly remastered JC approved BD will still contain the horrid 5.1 remix and no mono option 9still waiting for 100% concrete confirmation of this)
anyone planning to resync the LPCM mono track to the new BD?

I'm a massive fan of this film and always watch the director's cut but i have to admit that the US version with different score works suprisingly well!!!!

gathered it's the same LD transfer. at least i don't get resolution loss from zooming in manually on my TV
the dts sounded much better though. shame the 6.1 was matrixed instead of descrete
there is also an offical DVD from Fox / excel Media in china (R6)
anamorphic and dts 6.1 to boot. got my copy here.
second sight have confirmed the inclusion of the original audio track in PCM 2.0
the remix is presented in DTS 5.1
gives my back speakers a rest then
the US version works suprisingly well with the Bill Conti score
just wish Luc Besson woudl allow an offical release of the film (hates it with a passion so i read)

I booked my tickets for the Alien Anthology screening the day they announced it. so much demand that they put on two screenings (the second screening started 2.5 hours after ours started)
they said though that they wouldn't be able to do this again for a very long time. i presume they hired the prints.
the print was quiet scratchy at the beginning of reel changes and there was a slight red tint to it (due to age i presume) but overall it was good
the audio had a few pops and cracks but none of this distracted my attention fromt the film.
was very cool seeing the original X certifciate at the start as well

The Conti version works suprisingly well IMHO
a must have for any fans of Le Grand Bleu
