Wampas are basically Yeti (just as Wookiees are Sasquatch) and the attack riffs the Tuscan scene in the first film (both end with an arm on the ground) just as the Imperials being picked off attacking the reactor to knock out the Rebel spherical weapon mirrors the rebels being picked off attacking the reactor of the imperial spherical weapon in the first film.

The escape pod carrying droids mirrors the landing capsule carrying the probot.

In the lost cut of Star Wars (1977) Luke is looking up at the sky with binoculars and this gets recycled in ESB. 

Just something Bingo brought up on another thread about the ANH-ESB relationship.

I find some of these repetitions between the movies quite interesting, as they can be used to address how a character has developed by having them deal with a situation differently.

There are some obvious repetitions between ROTJ and ANH with the Death Star (which really don't achieve this at all), but I was wondering if any events or interactions could be built to repeat constructively?

The only one I could think of first, was to re-edit the SAIL BARGE ASSAULT to mimick the FALCON ESCAPE from bespin. The heroes could just fight and escape on the skiff, and not necessarily destroy jabba and his sail barge (it always felt too much like an overpowering victory romp to me, when that sensation should be saved for the end of the movie). The musical ques could be also be altered so they match the scene from ESB.

What if Vader visits Jerjerrod at the endor base during the opening of ROTJ? It would set the Imperial Base up to be something far far bigger with that massive hangar.

You could get an intense pan-up reveal of the Death Star at the end of the scene too.

Yeah it does jump from night time to daylight pretty quickly.

I was wondering if there was space for an effective symbolic moment.

Just thinking of visual metaphors which could be explored in ROTJ.

One thing I really liked in ROTS was the repeated use of sunsets in the first half of the film, and the later use of night time to emphasise the fall of the republic.

Conversely in ROTJ, could there be a use of twilights and dawns to describe the opposite?

Which points could this be applied and where would it be feasable? There is potential for a sunrise during the sail barge assault, however this could be too early. Would the best point be just to end the film on a sun rise?

As a point of order (especially to any floating mods) would this fit into the edits section (being mock ups intended to inspire edit project makers) or art (being still images)?

I'd say the former, as the intention is to encourage the use of either per-exisiting footage or design work. I'd find a bank of gathered footage incredibly helpful.

These are the immediate things that spring to mind when I hear PT:R and wonder what it actually is.

1. Is it going to be made to feel like it was made before episode IV or atleast the same in terms of looks or even older and more retro 70's

2. We know that it is going to set about fixing plot points and keeping continuity with the plot but in terms of extra characters are we going to have main character that "breaks the rules" basically a replacement Han Solo character because the PT really needed a character that was not straight laced and goody two shoes... That was not afraid to scream at people to get the job at hand done... Love able rogue type

3. Is using footage from "other" sources an option especially for the likes of the characters in the Trilogy or in others or anything else that might work

4. John Williams score is great but in terms of music will there be any musical numbers this again is something that was absent from the PT people can dig around or even compose for stuff that fits

The reason I ask is because It is such a huge undertaking I am sure people would want to at least if they put ideas over be on the right track

I'd love to know if there are any plans to retro-fy the PT. The revisited OT definitely brings the overall aesthetic forward a bit, so it'd be good to see the PT receive the opposite treatment!

I'm really hoping for some 'cross-polination' between PT:R and ROTJ:R to bring the saga to a conclusive opening and close.

I'd like to try sometime shifitng dialogue from the prison cell to the duel, so dooku is trying to get obi-wan to join hm whilst they fight. If we think about theme's which could be built into AOTC, Obi-Wan's temptation to join Dooku could reflect Anakin's temptation to join Padme (different motives obviously!).

okay, chucking this one out there -

someone suggested that dooku might be like the lando of AOTC.

what if obi-wan goes to him intentionally and directly looking for advice during his investigations? so dooku might be initially introduced the wise retired ex-jedi, only to be later revealed as the leader of the rebels.

I posted this on the Revisited thread the other day, but its really probably more appropriate here. Its a bunch of ideas sort of mulched together in what could become an edit which cannibalizes footage from both Episode 1 and 2.


The film would open with Seperatist invasion of Naboo (The first act of the Clone Wars). Naboo and Geonosis are combined as a desert world, so Theed would be like an oasis city. The Geonosians are the savage desert dwellers who hate the Oasis folk. Padme is introduced fighting her way from the throne room to the hangar. Royal Starship escapes and blasts into Hyperspace.

Obi-wan Kenobi is introduced inspecting the Clone Army. Not sure what the plot hook would be for this, but for whatever the reason he meets and fights the Mandalorian. He pursues him to Coruscant.

Padme would push for the creation of a Clone Army to liberate her homeworld.

Obi Wan - following the Mandalorian - somehow gets tipped off that Padme is the next target. He sees an exchange with Zam and pursues them. Somehow he ends up on that droid thing and gets shot off. He falls and gets caught by a speeder - introducing Anakin Skywalker. Zam could be chasing them, but her speeder could have guns on it? The droid thing meanwhile arrives at padme's. The Jedi arrive just in time, Anakin meets Padme for the first time.

Anakin is charged with protecting Padme, Obi-Wan is charged with travelling to Desert-Naboo, and negotiating with the Seperatists.

Naboo as seen in AOTC becomes Alderan, a green peaceful world. Padme is revealed by a mysterious spy (using Darth Maul footage) Droids invade forcing them to leave.

Anakin takes her to his homeworld - Tatooine. The spy follows them there, hunting Padme by sending those ball droids looking for her. They recieve a message from occupied Desert-Naboo informing them that Obi-Wan Kenobi is to be executed (as an act of war). Padme, sick of running, decides that they should attempt a hopeless rescue.

They travel to Desert/Naboo (ie geonosis). There are no Droid Factories, just a massive occupying force. They are captured and sentenced to death in the arena. The Clones show up, and defeat the droids.

I always liked the idea of Dooku wearing a CG Mask until a big reveal moment. This would allow for an extra to stand in for him in some essential earlier scenes, as well as some easy redubbing with a mechanical voice.

^There is a great line in the Clone Wars Movie by Dooku (voiced by Chrostopher Lee) which would fit in with the duel wonderfully if geonosis and tatooine merged-

"Ah, now I remember. This was your home planet, wasn't it? I sense your strong feelings. Feelings of pain, loss..."

The conversation probably is not needed outside the room... But the only potential problem I see with it is that they are assigned to protect her so why are they rushing to get there in a car, like they have been off doing something they should not have?

Yeah there are a pile of issues with it. I have been mulling over some vague broader ideas which it might be able to fit with however -

A new STAR WARS ep 1 which uses some TPM stuff as an opening for AOTC. The three core characters would start in different places

A question for Adywan -

Is one of your motives for editting the PT and RotJ together, so you can add content which might be familiar to both? ie new characters and subplots? (ie adding or recasting minor characters to rotj which appear younger in PT.)

If there is new Vader content in the PT I'd love to see an added dream scene similar to the cave on dagobah. The strip light duel bits from AotC combined with backshots of a new anakin could work well.

As I mentioned earlier, it is in response to something the Revisited team posted on facebook - where some interesting points were being considered which I had hoped might migrate here.

To set the record straight I'm not a "nervous nelly", I'm well aware of the rules that we keep to generally with faneditting, but I'm aware with a project that has a growing viewership like this one that not everyone does (especially as not everyone who will be seeing this edit will even make it to these boards).

All I was suggesting, and it might not have been clear, was it could be worthwhile for the fan-edit to actively condemn piracy, as they have done on facebook.

Is this totally illegal though? I assumed that owning the source material enabled it to be legal on a viewer to viewer basis?

I'm more concerned for the project's sake than my own. And it is a point raised by Revisited originally.

Could we have a big disclaimer detailing the exact copy (or copies) of ESB and any other materials placed somewhere really clear like at the beginning of the fan-edit, or this thread or the box art etc?

Just so everything is all covered, and we all know where we stand.

My only issue with killing Han, would be that he essentially got killed in ESB. Killing Leia might work, she even gets shot, but you are right about the amount of footage available doesn't allow for much.

One thing that could work though would be an additional subplot. If Mon Mothma and General Nadine were recast/redesigned, you could form more of a plotline for them around what already exists. One thing ROTJ always missed was the interaction with rebel staff that we had at on Hoth.

I'm all for Lando dying, but I really don't think it would add much to any dramatic tension or give a bittersweet ending. Kill the whole fleet off if you want that. Get rid of the Ewok celebration and have the survivors quietly limp off home.

You really need to toy with one of the core plots a bit more to give it a bittersweet sort of finale. I liked the idea of Luke burying his lightsabre, and quitting as a Jedi. He would realise that the galaxy is better off without the Jedi now that the Sith are gone.

A bridge film between 2 and 3 is certainly possible, and there are numerous stories which could focus primarily on pre-clone wars characters (So You could avoid having to introduce Asoka and Ventriss). Its really unfortunate that a Grevious Origin story was never explored, as he would be a good character to introduce here.

In terms of tone, Episode 2.5 should effectively be 'The Seperatists Strike Back' as far as they should have the Republic on the backfoot, striking numerous victories etc, making the battle of coruscant seem like the crunch point. Grevious should be terrifying as he is in the Gennedy Tartakovsky series.

I'd recommend using episodes from S02E10 onwards as they have the updated animation quality, and are generally better, although they focus less on the war. The use of dubbing/switched dialogue could be effective too.

Been decorating my flat all weekend, and beating some general fanedit ideas around my head.

What if (and this discounts PT canon) Darth Maul is introduced as Obi-Wan's fallen ex-apprentice? It would require some exposition and dubbing, but could lead an audience to think he is Darth Vader later on, and could provide a motive for his vengeance against Obi-Wan.

Its a real shame we never see Anakin fighting him really, but the whole subplot could get introduced verbally in Ep I, then we meet the guy in II, and the Mandalore plot becomes the climax of III.

i guess alot of the story could continue straight after ROTS, like ashoka, ventress and maul etc. but no doubt theyre just trying to put the first 6 episodes behind them and move onto the new trilogy.

well at least we have a good idea what meat we have to play with now for a clone wars trilogy!
