An exact quote from Lucas on Greedo shooting first.

The more you think about this, the more ridiculous it gets:
a) both the novel and the shooting script state that Han shoots first;
b) "In my mind [Greedo] shot first or at the same time" - there was nothing preventing him shooting it that way in 1976;
c) "Well, I don't have that shot" - but he did, as he had plenty of shots of Greedo pointing a blaster at Solo, to which the laser blast could have been added easily in '77, the same way all the other laser blasts were;
d) which is exactly what he used to make Greedo shoot first in '97.

Though he didn't have technology to make Han's head move in a very awkward and unrealistic fashion

Little Shop of Horrors original ending (Released)

Scooby Doo has something like that where if you win this DVD game, you can watch a clip with I think Pamela Anderson. On some DVD's you have to enter a code to watch certain things. Is what I have done really any different?

Entering a code is one thing, this is just downright stupid. Sorry, but I don't know what you were thinking when you did this.

Star Wars: Full Frame + Widescreen = ?

What would this look like?

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this before. I'm also guessing the full frame versions are pan and scan, which would mean that the full frame would have to be matted overtop of the widescreen and aligned shot by shot. Sounds pretty painstaking, but possibly the closest we can get to a higher resolution picture without using the DVD releases.

What do you think?

Star Wars was shot in Panavision which means that the 2.35:1 image is the full area on the original film frame. No matting involved.

I think he means that the LDs aren't anamorphic, he's just phrasing it awkwardly.

I also think that merging the two images would look like crap, as MeBeJedi previously stated.

MH: [Laughs] I always thought that it was the alien. But George [Lucas] keeps going back and tweaking these things. I don't even know anymore. I do know that they dubbed a scream when I let go in the second movie. Which was funny because [Irvin] Kershner and I discussed it, but basically Luke is committing suicide. Rather than join [Darth] Vader, he let go in a very calm way. So, he ended up dubbing a scream. He didn't tell me. He didn't have me do the scream. I don't know where he got it. Maybe it was from the library of sounds that I made for him, but I haven't double checked that, but you could tell me. Do I scream on the way down?

UGO: Why would you?

MH: That's what I say.
- Mark Hamill

For better news for Mark Hamill, didn't they get rid of the scream for the SSE DVDs?

They did indeed. More proof that Lucas has no idea what the hell he's doing.

Um... the version in the US has a bonus disc.

Yah...but not the other stuff from R2. This situation is similar to the Titanic problem.

Ah. That would do it. Well, you've done great work in the past and I see no reason why this shouldn't turn out any different .

Where?!

I belive he's referring to the laserdiscs and VHS.

Oh, yes, right, so let me get my vinyl long play hi-fi stereo to listen to the long lost Tron soundtrack, which is available on its original form only in a Long Play vinyl disc. I mean, everyone has one of these at home, right? Along with the 8mm film camera, and the black and white TV set, a typewriter, a beeper...

I have a turntable still. And i just used it the other day to listen to Williams' Dracula 1979 score.

For me there is nothing like listening to The Beatles on their original release albums. CDs just don't cut it.

And in any case, most people still have a VHS player, and we're practically swimming in laserdisc transfers (Honestly, is there any reason that we need so many?)

Coincidence?

To take things further, ROTJ is a rehash of ANH. Moving onto other films, the last part of Aliens is a rehash of Alien and T2 is a rehash of the Terminator. Same plotpoints and basically even the same scenes. The stakes are just raised.

I'll have to agree with this. As poorly written as the PT was, it was similiar in many ways to the OT in order to emphasize the point that both Anakin and Luke faced a smiliar journey, the destination was just different.

George Lucas helped film the Godfather?

Without Francis Ford Coppola, it is very much possible that there would be no Star Wars. He also produced THX-1138. Then he made Jack. Seems to be a trend among both of them (alright, so Jack had some good points... haha).

Hey, I loved Jack! Of course, I was a bit surprised when I found out a few weeks ago that it was Coppola directing it, but I still think it's an awesome movie. Not The Godfather, but Jack trying to be The Godfather would just be really weird.

I thought Jack was a fun movie, but having Coppola do it? Was he trying to get in touch with his inner child or something?

DVD Labels
Time
Thanks for the great template Zion! I store all my DVDs in a zip case now that I'm at school and this will work great for locating them easier!

And to just add something about stick on labels, after experimenting more with my DVDs, I've found out that the stick-labels changed nothing of the outcome of the disc. It was either the brand of disc I was using, or the speed. I burn all my stuff now with HP DVD-Rs at 4x (the discs are rated 8x) and use stick on labels all the way to the hub, and I've had no problems so far. Unfortunately, I have to reburn all the DVDs I burned beforehand. Groan. Such is life.

The Gangs of New York - Yoshimi Edit (Released)
Time
Just got done watching it few minutes ago. Since I haven't seen the theatrical cut since it first ran in theaters, I was basically watching this blind. Overall, it was a very well done job for what I'm guessing is your first fan edit (am I right?). Yeah, some of the cuts were pretty rough but it seemed unavoidable given the content. Kudos to you, I look forward to more of your work.

Frustrated with DVD burning
Time
Alright, just a quick update on my own personal situation (since I'm sure you're all dying to know ).

Well, the last batch of DVDs I've used were both Sony DVD-R's and Nextech DVD-R's. I burned all content at 8x and when I would label them I would use only standard labels only (no hub, as the center of both these discs were clear). These discs all have problems with pixelization and so forth, And by and large the problems tended to be immediate.

Currently, I am in the process of re-burning a lot of my stuff using HP DVD-R's at 4x. The hub for these allows for labels to be put on it, and since I'm both a stubborn and aesthetic person, I'm printing full face labels for these (Feel free to yell at me, though I doubt you'll change my mind ). So far, I've watched a couple of these all the way through with nary a problem. I'll have to check them every so often to make sure they're good but so far... the coast seems clear.

I suppose in the future I'll invest in printable discs and a printer that can print on them, since even if the labels don't damange the disc, they're quite frankly a bitch to print out. The calibration tool that came with the program (exPressit... ugh) seems to do nothing, and I don't think I've gotten a perfectly centered label yet. I assume that printers that print directly on to discs do a better job?

Anyways, this thread has some great information on it. Hopefully other people will read it and learn more than I did.
