1. Yes, it is apparant that Vader respects him as well (i.e., "Vader, release him." "As you wish.")

2. No idea.

3. They probably have advanced scanning techniques that can locate settlements, especially probe droids (though they are never seen, one can always assume).

4. Probably so they can more easily keep track of the crushed pieces for charting purposes?

5. Throwback to old WWII flicks I imagine. There doesn't seem to be any deep space survival gear.

6. PARallax of one arc SECond. About 3.2 lightyears. Google or wikipedia for a more detailed explanation (yes, it is a real measurement).

7. I don't know if its ever named. Just some type of credits I imagine.

8. This is one of the many things that is unexplained in the prequels. I suppose one can explain it away by saying that Anakin crafted the mechanics and such and the Republic later covered him with their own bodies.

Hope this helps. And no, they're not stupid at all.

Well, a version of the midichlorians was at one point in either an early draft of Star Wars or in his early notes about Star Wars. It's not something he came up with in the mid-90's. He's had the idea for it or a version of it in his notes since the beginning.

As far as the Jedi jumping, why is this an issue? Luke did about the same thing at the beginning of Return of the Jedi during the Sail Barge sequence. Nobody said anything back then....or now.

Obviously, his instinct not to include them in Star Wars was correct. The Force was much cooler when it couldn't be quantified. In Star Wars, command of the Force was apparently attainable to those willing to walk the path...in The Phantom Menace, command of the Force comes from winning the genetic lottery.

As for jumping - yes, it was there in Empire and Jedi, but sparingly and not to any insane extremes. Luke jumps about twenty feet staright up on Bespin; Obi-Wan jumps about sixty while he and Qui-Gon battled Darth Maul. Mace Windu Supermanned his way across the entire Geonosis arena.

There was jumping in both trilogies, but look at the degrees. Big difference.

As far as the jumping goes, that can be explained by stating that the Jedi were young and in their prime then. Luke was still a trainee in the OT.

And no, I'm not a huge fan of the PT in case anyone gets that idea.

"I’ll say now that the transfer on this disc is better than most, but not all of the bootlegs out there"

Wow, that's a pretty impressive statement. I wonder which bootlegs in particular he's referring too. I'm just becoming more and more sure that my decision to avoid these was the correct one. Thanks for sharing this!

Info Wanted: Did M. Night Shyamalan make changes to his movies when they hit DVD?

In response to Unbreakable, the film could have been poorly framed by the projectionist. I don't recall seeing any Elvin subtitles in The Fellowship of the Ring (I remember this quite well as I was very confused during some scenes). That could be it. The subtitles in Unbreakable were definetely there in theaters, I can tell you that.

Star Trek gets better treatment than Star Wars...
Time
I think this is a somewhat interesting idea, though keep in mind I'm not really a Trekkie, I just find the series somewhat enjoyable. This doesn't seem like anything to get worked up about. I mean, really, the series is already out on DVD, so you're not losing anything. And its not like they're putting in a bunch of fart jokes. Lets not go crazy over something that's really not that important.

DVD WRITING CAMPAIGN - WEEK ONE - "Entertainment Weekly"
Time
Just sent this out. Hope it does some good.

RE: Dalton Ross' 5/12/06 article, "Greed(o) Kills"

I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Ross' summation of George Lucas' treatment of Star Wars and then some. It is quite frankly outrageous that after all these years we still have not been given the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD. And, after hearing advanced reports on the new DVDs, it appears that these transfers of the original cuts are sub-par, taken from the laserdisc transfers and not even anamorphic! This is not just about stuck up fans getting what we want, this is about preserving film history. These films literally made George Lucas into the millionaire that he is now, and he could not care less about them, as well as the fans that made him so rich as well. There is absolutely no excuse for this treatment of the films. Although Lucas and stock Lucasfilm employees claim they have no copies of the original films (which may very well be true), there are original copies in the hands of many private collectors as well as film institutions that would no doubt be happy to provide Lucas with them if he has "misplaced" them. I hope that there will be enough support to make Lucasfilm see the errors of their ways; after all, after hearing fans reactions, Steven Spielberg was more than obliging to provide the original cut of ET on DVD in addition to his new special edition (in premium quality, no less!). Let us hope that Mr. Lucas will follow suit.
