What do you love about Star Wars?
Time
For me, it all started when I was looking for a movie to rent and saw the original trilogy playing on the demo screen the store had set up (the "new" THX Faces editions). It was the beginning of ANH where Vader and the stormtroopers burst through the doors of the blockade runner , tore up ass, and Vader choked Antilles. I knew I had to see that movie. So I rented ANH and just loved everything about it, the timelessness of it, the SFX which were just jaw dropping to me, etc. Luckily my birthday was in the next couple of weeks and I got the entire trilogy on VHS. I wore out those old pan and scan copies like you wouldn't believe.

Seeing the Saga in order - a review by a first-time viewer....

I think I was expecting a LOT more time spent on Viggo Mortensen, becoming the Lawrence of Arabia of middle earth. There seemed to be a lot of time spent on "Sam is such a good friend". And "Sean Bean's dad sure is nuts".

Eh... kind of. Faramir is obviously a major departure, the spider was in The Two Towers, aspects of the battle are different, the ghost army is utilized much differently... etc. I know some obsessive fans were upset about the changes, but 90% of them realized that Peter Jackson did a much better job translating the source material than anyone could have hoped.

In any case, when I finally watch the entire saga, it will probably be 1-6, with 1-3 being ADM's fantastic edits and 4-6 being OCPM's Classic Editions, which, despite all the drama surrounding, I think they are an excellent piece of work.

Yes it is bizzare that the second death star took only four years to complete...but it could only destroy ships. An imperial union strike must have ended between episodes 3 and 4.

DSII was twice the size as the first Death Star......you seem to think it could only destroy ships partly because that's the only thing it was showed destroying.....you know what happens when you assume something, don't you?

Yeah, its not like they had a planet to test it on. In any case, I remember that in one draft (or maybe the novel or something like that), Palpatine ordered Jerjerrod to turn the Death Star on Endor if the shield were to be destroyed. So there.

Why is not wanting a gun bad?

I did not say not wanting a gun is bad, just now, with the times so chaotic, people breaking in more than usual, its almost guaranteed to happen, so why not be prepared?

Where are you from? In the US, burglaries have fallen 26% in the past ten years.

As far as settop players go, I use a Zenith DVB 314 upconverting player. It's the only affordable one (that I know of) that will upconvert DVD over component to 1080i and it does it beautifully. It will also player PAL right out of the box, and can be made Region free through a hack. Though if you have HDMI or DVI on your TV (I don't... only component) I'd suggest the OPPO.

I don't get it. Do you have the laserdisc or VHS? If you do a transfer to DVD, it will pretty much be the same format as either one, only it will be digital.

Homer: [gasps] Former President Gerald Ford? Put her there! I'm Homer Simpson!

Gerry: Say, Homer, do you like football?

Homer: Do I ever!

Gerry: Do you like nachos?

Homer: Yes, Mr. Ford.

Gerry: Well, why don't you come over and watch the game, and we'll have nachos? And then, some beer.

Homer: Ooh!
[they walk across the street]
Gerry, I think you and I are going to get along just --
[they both trip]

Both: D'oh!

Hehe... I always liked that episode as a whole. I wonder what both Bush and Ford thought of it.

I have no idea what the country was like under Ford, as I was born in '87, but when an American president dies it is always a sad time. My thoughts go out to him today.

Out of morbid curiosity, I downloaded JFK Reloaded. I kind of respect what they were trying to do, it is an interesting idea. And the way they explain the bullet shots at the end of each turn is really interesting. But honestly, it is really sick. It is not just some silly first person shooter, you are portraying a known killer, and killing a 3d figure bearing the name and likeness of a real man. At least the goal of the game is not merely to kill the pres., but to get as close as possible to the marks Oswald actually hit. Still, pretty sick. Now I am waiting for the game were I get to portray the D.C. Sniper and try to commit his crimes as close as possible to how they really happened. Also since his was numerous kills rather than just one event, this game could be multiple levels to the game. The cool one will be the game were you have to aim a commercial airliner at the World Trade Center. I am really looking forward to that one. And how cool would it be to relive Columbine? Or the Oklahoma City bombing. Come on, it is just too much! Even worse than them selling this thing was the competition. That was really just wrong and really twisted.

I understand your view, but the whole point of reenacting it is not just to reenact it, but to determine if it was possible. We all know what happened at the OK bombings, Columbine, etc (well, WTC is touchy, but there's not a lot of evidence to support conspiracy theories). I applaud the makers for not pulling any punches. Sure there are people who play it for the gore, but the way it was designed, it is meant to be taken seriously.
