Hi, DFN.

Just grabbed this via fanedit.info links and had a little bit of trouble with my first burn.  Maybe because I selected the "seamless" option when choosing a layer break and my player didn't like that.  But before i try again, i was wondering if you have a specific layer break point that i should enter manually in ImgBurn.

Thanks.

Sorry man.  Rock on! lol.

I was just saying i am surprised that he has not thought of this seeing as that star wars rocks poster sold out so well and is now a collectors item supposedly.

Saw the Star Wars rock band pic on t-shirts at the department store.  I don't go for much in the way of SW merchandise these days, but i might have bought it if they had my size.

Han "Guitar" Solo.  heh.  excellent.

Discussion: Which Star Wars Kenner mini-rig should be realised in the movies.

Though not a mini-rig this little number would be right at home within a Star Wars film (the hover vehicles in the Rebel base on Hoth looked rather similar) in fact, I'm surprised something like this wasn't introduced in ANH:SE.

Imp Troop Transport

In fact, I always assumed this was the transport seen in the Rebel base on hoth, and the name was just a classic case of toy-maker blunder -- or perhaps a way to sell more stormtroopers!

I always thought the MLC-3 (tank-like thing with the bubble canopy and two laser canons) was the only legit one in terms of NOT looking odd should it appear in a film.  A figure could be put in it and there was zero chance they would randomly fall out.

I always hated the PDT-8 (non-descript flying vehicle shown w/Threepio and FX-7).  As if it wasn't bad enough that each of the two chambers could barely keep a figure in place, IIRC the end flaps snapped down (like a pick-up truck's tailgate), as if the figures needed an easier exit!

CAP-2 was cool if imagined as Bossk's little vehicle.  I guess it was supposed to fly, since those legs weren't too stable.  And I assume the Rebel Commander was his bounty.  I wonder what was in this guy's past?  No doubt the EU has explored this. ;)

Excessive use of vertical screen space
Time

Not the same exact problem as the original poster, but the topic title fits so i'm putting this here.

The Google banner ad that i encountered runs vertically and not horizontally.  This gives a very bad look to the forum home page, as it looks empty.  (admittedly, given the recent forum update, i thought everything was missing).

I suppose they are only using the alloted area for a banner ad, but by going vertical they are killing a bunch of space.  Can you specify that advertisers run only horizontal ads in these places?

VINH,

Suggestion: maybe below your original post you should put a listing down of what you do know in a clear/concise manner, with notes if you'd like.  Then folks can easily see what gaps you have and fill them in for you.  Or correct you where something is wrong.  Like this:

STAR WARS
1982: VHS, "Rental Tape".  note: Pan/Scan, 35mm stereo mix
1985: LD, CAV.  note: 35mm stereo mix
1985: VHS.  note: new digital stero remix.
1989: LD...
1990: VHS, Trilogy box-set

EMPIRE
1984: VHS...
1985: LD...
1989: LD...
1990: VHS, Trilogy box-set

JEDI
1986: VHS...
1990: LD...
1990: VHS, Trilogy box-set

[NOTE: not sure if these are correct...just quickly threw this together]

If/when you have kids it's great.  You pretend you're getting it for them: "Boy, i bet the kids would really enjoy this Biggs Darklighter figure.  Afterall, we... er... they don't have one yet."

That's what i used to do to justify the impulse buys.  Fortunately for the family my impulses were very small in scale.  I say "used to" because the kids aren't into the Star Wars stuff like they once were.  They inherited all my original toys, and we certainly had great times playing "Star Wars".  But, they are girls and are growing up and have found other things to occupy their time and interests.  They still LOVE the original films, though. :D

I sold my Limited Edition trilogy DVD and that Bonus Material from the 2004 boxset two days ago. STAR WARS is done for me.

I don't even care when it's released onto Blu-ray disc. There's a different Trilogy of which I'm anticipated more on Blu anyway which is from Lucasfilm Ltd. which is Indiana Jones.

I'll even freely admit I'm way more of a fan of Indiana Jones compared to Star Wars anyway. I even rightfully enjoyed KotCS and that's my own fucking opinion. I even sold my DVD of it to get around to buying it on Blu-ray disc. What's that? I can't like KotCS since it's not like the other three films? I have my own damn opinion thank you kindly.

Yeah, I've even posted more on this forum in several Indiana Jones threads compared to Star Wars ones!

I DON'T A FUCK!

Wow.  That was a rather pointless/off-topic post.  I certainly hope you plan on enriching other forum threads with similarly pointless diatribes.

A new documentary (80 minutes) and the producer promises a future ISO file to download

Alien Makers : http://www.zen171398.zen.co.uk/index.html

I read through a bunch of the AXP forum thread for the Alien Makers documentary, but still didn't find out whether PAL or NTSC is the original format.  Am waiting for my forum registration to go through so I can post the question there for the filmmaker.

In my thread-reading (@ alienexperience.com) I did find that both PAL and NTSC ISO image parts are at megaupload.

Heard back from Dennis Lowe (the filmmaker).  PAL is the native format of Alien Makers, as suspected.  The AXP forum lists the downloadable parts as provided by the filmmaker, both PAL and NTSC.  Be careful, though.  Both NTSC and PAL ISO parts are presently listed as "PAL ISO Part...".  But the headings for each list are correct.

Okay, now is the time to list our footage individually so we can start figuring out who's got what and start making arrangements. Please confine your listings to the video footage only. This is what I have:

ALIENS:
- TV spot for Aliens (TV1000, 1 min). Advertised as the winner of 2 academy awards and it has graphics that mimic Aliens logo
- TV spot for Aliens (DirectTV, 30 seconds). With Sigourney filmed to match powerloader scene.
- Greatest ever 80's movies: Aliens #4 (Channel 5, 3 min). With new M. Biehn interview.
- Aliens: ride at the speed of fright - pre-ride & ride films (8 min)
- Alien war - 4 promo ads & newsreports: beyond 2000, hrt, bbc news (18 min)

Has anyone finished this collection? I'm looking for a high quality copy of the Beyond 2000 Alien War segment. The copy I have is from really poor VHS and is missing part of the intro.

Thanks!

Rook

Rook, take a look at the Alien Appendix #4 thread.  In the content listing, it just says "Alien War featurettes".  You'll have to ask Jonno over there for specifics.

Alien Appendix #4: The ALIENS Archive (Released)
Time

Well, i'm skeptical.  Just to test it, i put a quantity of 5 in my "cart" and proceeded through the checkout process just short of placing my order.  The system was about to happily charge me for 5 of these "items" and associated shipping.

I understand your eagerness to get a hold of this rarity, but i have policy with online independent sellers: if they don't respond to a question i pose to them, there is no way i will purchase their wares -- no matter how tempting.

My guess is that the price shown is for a DVD copy, and he regularly sells these.  Who knows if he really has that 3/4" tape anymore, or if he got a copy off the tape from a friend/acquaintance.  I suppose the follow-up to my initial query will be to see if he can send me a photo of the tape.

If this is the real deal, i'll buy it and have my friend do the transfer, then send you the DVD, TB.  But if this is just a DVD copy of uncertain transfer lineage, the most i would put in $5.  it would take 5 others to join me to cover shipping, and we would agree to send the disc to the AA team.

I'm compiling the footage for Alien Appendix #5+6 DVDs and will post the list soon. In the meantime I've found an ultra rare item which would be a crown of the new Appendix disc. It's available to US only, so someone from the USA has to get this fantastic item and share it for Appendix disc! I've contacted the seller about shipping to Europe but he hasn't replied yet
http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=5029009&keywords=aliens%20press

This is the very rare audio visual press kit for the film "Aliens," on 3/4 inch tape. Originally released by 20th Century Fox in 1986 and sent to televsion studios and other media to promote the film. This is an amazing piece of footage, and while this cannot be viewed on standard equipement, I can transfer it to dvd for you.
Contents include: Original trailer, cast and crew intereviews and alot of rare behind the scenes footage!
Complete running time is nearly 50 minutes.

Because the "I can transfer it to dvd for you" comes from the seller's description and not tb1971, i thought it was important to get clarification.  So i sent the seller the following: for "ALIENS 1986 Video Press Kit", are you selling the actual 3/4 inch tape or a dvd transfer of this?  Thanks.

I have a friend who works at a transfer house and could get this done.  Or TB, would you be able to transfer it yourself?  Also, are you interested if it is simply a dvd transfer of this guy's own doing?

What is this, and where can I find one today?
Time

Picture #3 is actually antenna input, not output.  Thus, doohickey in #4 would be used to connect coax line in (to have cable or antenna pass through the switch-box).

Picture #5 is a broken-off twin-lead connection looking like the end of #4.  This would connect to the TV.  Before coax connectors we had two-terminal VHF antenna in.  If this part of the switch-box were intact, you would need a twinlead-to-coax adapter to connect to modern-ish TVs.

Once connections were made, you would have to slide the switch to select either Atari or antenna/cable.  When the original Nintendo came out, it was fantastic that we no longer had to slide a switch whenever we wanted to play video games.

As SilverWook has pointed out, you can probably find something like this at RadioShack.

Hey, Ash.  Can you tell me if the native format of the documentary is NTSC or PAL?  I read the first few pages of the discussion thread at Alien Experience and didn't come up with the answer.  I noticed the link you provided above was to the NTSC *.iso file, and your artwork says "NTSC".  Maybe those provide the answer?

The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome).

ABC said:

Ok but now that one of the best rendition of ANH has been done, why not proposing something else, different. I mean Ady's work is not what I would call a fan-edit: it's a true restauration (with very little bits of fan edits).

"So what else can be done?" - Ok. And forget Ady's work: it's done, and it's been done in respect to everyone's expectations. Proof is here.

Let's take it easy with the "restoration" description being applied to ANH:R.  The color-correction aspect could be described as restoration, yes.  But this is a fan-edit of the highest-order.  And I mean that in a complimentary manner, both in what Ady strove for and what he achieved.

With that said, NOTHING tops SW77 for me, followed by ANH81.  ANH:R is a nice occasional alternative, but it's not a replacement for my viewing.  I watch Star Wars probably once every 2 months, fwiw.

Can't help you with the BBFC certificates, but as for other films being advertised, this might be useful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_in_film

I have always found wikipedia's year lists to be very useful for putting films into the context of their time (which is something I always like to do.

The Spy Who Loved me came out that year, not sure what month, but that might be a cool trailer to show along side CE3K's trailer.

BTW, they had a certain movie appearing on that list as Star Wars: A New Hope.  I fixed that, with the explanation of that being added in 1981, thus the film released in '77 was simply Star Wars.

Time for a slight redesign?
Time

I second Anchorhead's mock-up.  The only difference i would make would be to retain the current ot.com logo, and use the same font for the buttons below the posters.

Also, it might be worth considering modifying or adding to the tagline to reflect the desire for a legitimate transfer/proper archiving of the originals (nothing too verbose, though).  You know and I know what's going on, but if someone out of the loop were to see that homepage they might think "It's already on DVD.  This site needs some updating!".
