Prequelize the OT
Time
[Leia is reclining on a computer animated bed that is floating in her prison cell. Her white robe is torn across her midriff. She has a strange look on her face and is playing with her hair. Luke enters Leia's prison cell, and Leia looks up - overly startled - and winces.]

Leia: Jangotroopers tend to be exactly two meters tall - I mean, they ARE clones, after all. You seem to be a few centimeters shorter than that - are you really a Jangotrooper?

Luke: What are you talking about, m'lady? Oh! Are you referring to my Jangotrooper armor? I can see why it would be confusing. Fear not, m'lady! [Luke removes his helmet and shakes loose his long curly shoulder-length tresses] See? No clone under this white armor! My name is Luke Skywalker, and I came to the Death Star with several other freedom fighters in order to rescue you.

Sorry - that wasn't very clear. What I meant was, Mandalorians would have been cool to feature in the pre-OT Star Wars universe, but they never materialized. Nope, we got legions of Clonetroopers in the final draft of the PT instead, and the rest is history.

So, I guess I'm saying, the little tiny hints about event before SW made in 1977/1980/1983 were and are still far more fascinating (and better ideas) to me than the results of millions of dollars of movie-making in the past decade.

I really wish someone with the skills could do a nicely written rewrite of the PT to make it fall more in step with the original elements of the story. I mean, think of all the things you imagined back when you were a kid about how Anakin became Vader, the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan's past, older characters in the OT like Mon Mothma and Tarkin, etc. Was ANY of it in the PT, except the volcano fight? I really don't think a million Star Wars fans writing a million different ideas would have come up with Jar Jar Binks, "Ani," midichlorians and the like (unless they were 9 - even I wrote a story about Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc - how stupid I was).

But after Obi was done with Ani, Luke was twice the man his father was.

And, seeing as how the Clone Wars were one of the only PT elements mentioned in the OT, you would have thought that would have been a bigger part of the story (and that the parts included wouldn't have been dumb as shit, i.e. Jango Fett is the key to all clones; they were manufactured to fight the Republic, then switched to fighting a droid army, then Trojan Horsed into fighting the Republic again, all so that a piddly old man can become emperor instead of just being supreme chancellor - oh, and he planned all of this years and YEARS prior to enacting it).

I forgot how dumb and convoluted the PT's background storyline was.

Yeah, I hate the over-the-top cartooniness of the characters too. And yet, they march around in fairly realistic settings.

The first Clone Wars series was moderately successful because the PT had not been finished. Now, the PT is done, and rather than ending on a high note, it ended on a middle-range note with some sour dissonance farting out toward the end.

I think Star Wars on film (big or small screen) is pretty much dead thanks to the prequels. Of course, the wheel of merchandise will grind on, but not as full-steam as before.

"It doesn't fall into the realm of what animation typically is, which is either adult, kind of off-colour humour or kiddie stuff."

Kind of the Howard The Duck problem - something that that seems to be aimed towards children (or family in general), but has a seedy underbelly.

There are so many flop movies that get made just because the makers don't pay any attention to the fact that there would be no audience whatsoever for the movie they want to make.

Now, this is Star Wars, so you think it would be easier, but this to me sounds like an early sign of critical flaws. If a network doesn't want to touch something Star Wars-related, what does that say about the quality of what is being submitted to them? Kind of scary.

And this is how you end up with stale computer-generated characters walking through a bland computer-generated world. Tron had more heart than the trailers I've seen for this piece of junk series.

Also - isn't it pretty ballsy to make 40 episodes of a 100-episode series before you even have a distributor?

Family Guy to kick off season with 1 hour Star Wars spoof
Time
Ha - this was great! I just finished watching it.

It was pretty nice how it heavily followed the original version of the film. Was the animation rotoscoped over the original film? Some of it was spot-on.

Also, did anyone else notice that the Millennium Falcon had a sensor dish when it was parked in Mos Eisley? Now we can add Family Guy to the folks like Adywan and Darth Editous who have corrected that.

I concur wholeheartedly.

How about going back to the model of the title of the original and calling it something like just "Marauders Of The Crystal Skull" or "Marauders Of The Lost Kingdom?" Take out Indiana Jones entirely. This will likely be the last movie anyway, so it would be nice to bookend the quadrilogy with similar titles.

Downloading/Recording/Ripping RTSP Streams
Time
Does anyone know a way that I can download/record/rip the following file? It is an .ram stream on an rtsp site. I have no experience messing with Real files.

original link - http://soundprint.org/streamIt.php?stream=documentaries/w/world_at_your_fingertips.rm
link in .ram file - rtsp://soundprint.org/documentaries/w/world_at_your_fingertips.rm

If someone who has the time and know-how could even go that extra step to download this, convert it to mp3 and then reupload it somewhere for me, I would really appreciate it. I am going to be at work all day and won't have a chance to work on this, but my wife needs it for a class she is teaching.

Thanks so much!

I wonder if just re-encoding in not the best manner could achieve a similar effect (hopefully with no/little pixelation). I briefly considered something similar in trying to make 2004 footage better match the 2006 OUT.

I just got around to watching the ESB trailers, and the '1980 Trailer 1' reminds me a lot of a TV spot that ran when the film came out, and I haven't seen it since. I vividly remember being VERY disturbed seeing the shot of Artoo peeking into Yoda's house while being rained on. Now I think it's cute, but back then I got the same feeling you get when you realize you've left your favorite toy outside in the rain.

I went to go see ROTJ in the theatre. I was 3 at the time, and very worried about Artoo's head sticking out while they were flying through space.
