Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time
Since Christmas, my wife and I (playing co-star mode) have been steadily moving along through Super Mario Galaxy. We've only just beaten the Honeyhive Galaxy, though.

If anyone is interested, though, my Super Mario World project thread will be available for viewing for the short-term future, at least (see my signature or go here). The forum that is hosting it is in the midst of upgrading (sound familiar?), so posting is disabled there. I would love to hear what you fan editing folks think of a project like this, since it has much in common with some of the things done here.

Really nice cover, Ady.

I was wondering if you had put any thought to doing a list of each change that you made to the film. This would be neat to have as an optional subtitle track that pops up at each alteration, or as just a txt file in the DVD-ROM folder. Or, were you more interested in letting people just notice things on their own? Just curious.

I'm a year late, but I am finally playing Twilight Princess on my Wii. It's already a great game, though I'm not sure if it beats "Zelda 64" yet.

I got a ton of Wii games for Christmas, including Super Mario Galaxy, but I haven't started playing it yet. I like playing things one at a time usually, so it might be a while before I get to my other new games.

But I did have a thought that kinda creeped me out a bit. Super Mario 64 is eleven years old now. That means it's 11 years older than Super Mario Galaxy. Well, Super Mario 64 is also eleven years older than Super Mario Bros. There has been as much time in between the original Super Mario Bros. and the game that brought the series into 3-D as there is between that game and the latest game in the series. For some reason, that makes me raise an eyebrow.

That's a pretty interesting observation - it was a huge leap from SMB1 to SM64, but not quite as far from SM64 to SMG.

Think about this, though - there's only been eight "main" Mario games for Nintendo's core systems over the years:
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Super Mario Galaxy

I don't know if you guys would be interested, but I am working on my own Mario game right now that is a mod of the original Super Mario World. You can check out my project here.

EDIT: The moderators over at the SMWCentral site are goofing around right now, so my link is effectively dead. Check back later!

Yep, Cleopatra is pretty well gone. Nice to see another Harold And Maude fan! I didn't know there were cut scenes - I know a copy of the original novel is floating around online (it's out of print, I think).

Ditto on both of those. Cleopatra is totally lost, isn't it (aside from about 3 feet of film) ???

Are there a lot of cut scenes from Raiders?

In addition the obvious Star Wars-related footage we'd all to have, I'd LOVE to have the cut scenes from Harold and Maude (which consist mainly of a couple more fake suicide attempts/pranks that Harold plays on his Mother).

Oh, come on - Bush-supporting conservatives are far more guilty of jingoism than liberals. "Bush lied, people died" might be a slogan, but it has a lot more back-story and support for it than when the Bush administration says that Bin Laden "hates freedom." Bin Laden doesn't hate freedom; he hates that America has arguably persecuted his people. There is a big difference between often-repeated statements that are encapsulating an idea versus oversimplifying/distorting an idea.

Maybe they are all just too scared to criticize anything in Lucasfilm anymore. This is going to be a nightmare to fix even with the use of the laserdisc 5.1 because upon finer checking that too has problems and the dialogue bleeds into the front L & R channels throughout most of the movie, But ESB & ROTJ are almost perfect.

I guess i have a long way to go yet

Maybe the scenes are visually flipped?

That's awesome news. You keep getting more and more classic SW crammed into this project.

I would want to know how he thought the flavor of the Lost Cut was vs. what was released. Obviously, we have heard Lucas' spin on it, but I would love to hear from someone that isn't Lucas. What were his first impressions? Did it seem groundbreaking at the time? What stood out as fresh and different? What was bad and needed improving? Are there any particular cut scenes that he wished had stayed in? What does he remember most about the viewing? What does he think about what a cultural phenomenon SW has become?

Stuff like that would be interesting to me.

Info: The Making Of Jurassic Park
Time
Okay - to clear up any confusion:

1) I posted this thread because I could not find any information on whether or not this documentary had been released on DVD. Apparently it has, so my original idea (VHS>DVD preservation) means nothing.

2) For some reason, posts in this thread are out of order. When I made my post last week, it post-dated it for November 4, pushing it toward the bottom of the thread.

3) I am not a big JP fan, so if a big JP fan wants this VHS for their collection, they are more than welcome to it. Just shoot me a PM.

The movie store in my town is going out of business, so they were giving away all of their screener copies of VHS's and DVD's. One of the items that was up for grabs was "The Making Of Jurassic Park." I took it because I thought folks here might be interested in it. I don't know if this has ever found its way onto any of the official DVDs. It is 50 minutes long and is narrated by James Earl Jones. Anyone interested?

<sarcasm>
Making a DVD in this time of a clear, concise winner in the next-gen format wars is ludicrous. I mean, Star Wars: SE Revisited is going to look terrible when it's shown on in a big screen in a professional movie theatre. And I think time has told us that anamorphic DVD is barely above VHS quality when shown on the average television, even up to 80+ inches wide. My eyes cannot tolerate pixelation below HD quality!

Yep, the whole scene with the up-to-know missing dialogue and footage.

Holy crap! That's awesome!!! This is probably one of the biggest OT breakthroughs in years. Now, hopefully you won't spend 30 hours fixing this thing for GL to release all the OT deleted scenes.

What was the source material for this? I thought all sources indicated that the scene had never been fully broadcast.

@ Sluggo - awesome signature.
