I think ADM converts to anamorphic by doing an AVI (compressed via lossless huffyuv) from an AVISynth script in VirtualDubMod. Then using this AVI in TMPGEnc to create the Mpeg-2 file. This was the way I was doing it, until I discovered that you can feed the AVISynth script straight into TMPGEnc (which saves a lot of time and disk space).

So, using the script fed straight into TMPGEnc, you won't have ~90 GB avi files floating around? Is that why it's better?

I have a project where I may need to do some 4:3>16:9 upconverting, as well as some cropping (so that everything has the same aspect ratio), and I am not very technically skilled here yet. (All I have is Womble and DVD-Lab Pro). I definitely prefer GUI software to scripting. I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to do this part of the process. Thanks for any help.

Maybe this comment would be better made on in the help forum. Sorry to get off-topic.

Dark Jedi,

What method do you use to convert 4:3 to 16:9? Is it the same used in ADigitalMan's guide?

Does anyone here know an alternative to that? Thanks!

LeoneNut,
sorry if this has been mentioned,if so I missed it,but is this project going to be 4:3 letterbox,or 16:9 anamorphic?
hopefully 16:9,but if not, thats cool,I can convert it for my 62' widescreen.
also will it be DD 2.0 or DD 5.1?
thanks again, hopefully the soundtracks will get into your hands very soon.

Paint Wars: A New Hope

All right, I've decided it's time to pull the plug on this project for good.

The reason is because I go back to college in two weeks, and I need all the time I have to get ready for it. So therefore I have no more time to work on Paint Wars, which was basically a boredom project.

SweHanson, you have my permission to take what I've finished and make it into a torrent. If anyone is willing to continiue this, then be my guest, because this is the end of the road for me. I apologize for any inconvience.

Please don't completely abandon this project. I think all of us would be happy to wait for you to finish at least the first movie, even if it took you ten years.

We all understand how personal life can take over our hobbies, but if you think about it, you already made it through 5% of the movie. That's amazing.

If you still want to abandon it, that's cool, but if you ever want to stay on doing it, please do. Whatever you do, though - don't feel pressued to keep on with this just because you feel like it's expected of you.

Even if all we ever get of Paint Wars is these first 8 minutes, that's okay, because it's one of the best things to come out of here in a while.

Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)

Not to go on a rant here, but I always here about people complaining about not being able to use one particular download service versus another. Where is the merit in these claims? Maybe I am just missing something, but I am able to download (more or less equally fast) from Rapidshare, Sendspace, Megaupload, Yousendit, Depositfiles, etc. with no problems whatsoever. As far as Rapidshare's wait time, if you really can't wait, here's my trick (it may or may not work for you) - unplug your router/firewall and then plug it back in. When it resets, it grabs a new IP address (at least with AT&T/SBC). Presto! Also, I've been able to download things via free file sharing sites much faster than torrents. What problems do other people have? It seems like if you do have problems, you might have something on your PC restricting your access to sites, or your scripts might be buggy.

Info Wanted: versions of Metropolis?

If CGI ever gets advanced enough (it's probably not yet), how would you guys feel about a restoration that restores the missing scenes with CGI recreations? Just curious.

Which specific shots are missing from the Authorized Restored Edition?

What other versions are floating around on DVD besides Moroder's?

What would the 2006 version be for, better quality?

I personally liked the speed on the official version. It seemed to run slightly faster than real life, so it had that old feel, but it wasn't "manic speed."
