Adywan,

Will you be doing anything with the AT-AT stop-motion to make it look not-so "stop motion"?

no. The stop motion of the AT-AT's has always worked perfectly for me. It gives them a more mechanical feel. The versions we see in the PT just look so fake and too fluid

Also, about that shot, its strange that the GOUT has the "dots" the same as the SE.

One thing i noticed while doing ESB:R is that the new composite is actually worse than the old one in the bottom shot. The viewscreen surrounding is now transparent and you can see Piette's body through it
Now that's funny! I know its not on topic here, but its my thread so I'll ask: What is the plan for these shots in ESBR?

I have to admit i'm not a fan of the "dots". It just doesn't look right, but there is no way to get rid of these without having to use a source with a lot less quality, which wouldn't look good in 720p. I want to do something that makes it look more like a video screen and the dots just don't do it.

When did Star Wars stop being fun? (aka, the Anti-Correct Viewing Order thread)
Time

Star Wars stopped being fun for me around 1999 with the release of TPM. It wasn't the film itself, although i did walk out of the cinema feeling very let down, but it was the star of the huge split within the Star Wars fan community.  It became PT vs OT fans. Not even the SE started something as big as this. The next nail in the coffin was when the Special Editions stopped being what they were originally titled and became the only version. It just wasn't fun chatting to people i knew about Star Wars any more because there was that huge divide. Now i don't hate the SE's or the PT but i hate what they did to the fandom.

Leave the guys on the far right, it looks far better than the original that way.
It's quite impressive, really.
If the conversation is the main focus of the shot, and the ships are the main focus of the conversation, doesn't that mean they sort of balance each other out? I'd keep it the way it looks now, but without the pink tones.
It looks AWESOME! ;)

if they were just standing there it would be possible to shrink and place them on the right but they walk off the screen so i have to keep them the same size. Plus it would be a nightmare having to replace all the insignias and track them to look perfect. I'm just going to go with a new larger background to show just how big this hangar is with a lot more activity

God , i'm loving reading through the making of empire book. Something interesting i found which will put the debate about the passage of time in the bespin scenes finally to rest:

"Typical of George was his clever concept of showing the passage of time in Cloud City," says Ellenshaw, "by going from sunrise to daylight to sunset for the falcons departure."

So there we have it . Why the hell they recoloured everything in 2004 to make it look more like sunset when the falcon arrives just shows to me that the recolouring was never a deliberate creative decision because that screws up the original intent of the scene.

Now it's just getting ridiculous- Obi Wan's new howl.
Time

What i'm preying is that this is actually the 2004 howl before being run through the synthesiser, but it's strange its called New Obi Howl and the one prior to it was the raw screams done by Wood & Acord so surely it should have been the final product? But then again they have made a bit of a mistake in the book. There is one sound which is supposed to be the X-wings launching from Yavin, but its the Millennium Falcon

LOL is this for real?

"WooooOOOOoooo [bad echo effect] wooaAHHHHH"

unfortunately it's 100% real. here's what it says about the new sound:

An interim crow sounds was first tried before Burtt arrived and recorded Wood and Acord in the parking lot behind the tech building. " He sourced it from Dave and me yelling", Wood says. "We screamed and screamed. I was trying to model mine off this terrible cheesy element that i love from a Disneyland ride, The Haunted Mansion. : ah, ah, ahooooaah!"

Ultimately, Burtt blended the screams- with Acord starting the scream and Wood ending the scream. "It sounds like some kind of weird animal but coming from a human, "says Wood

Well i just got a copy of The Sounds Of Star Wars book and it's very interesting. But my sheer delight turned to horror when i turned to page 276 and the chapter called "The Last Sound". Well it goes on about how they changed the howl in 2004 because GL didn't like the original sound. So there are 2 audio clips in this chapter: Obi-Wan Howl, which is the original version, RAW Yells, which is just some experimentation with no effects then the final one New Obi Howl. Now i pressed the play button and expected to hear the whistle sound that was heard in the 2004 DVD version, but now, it was far worse. It's a whole new sound and it is horrendous. It sounds like someone has done this on a home computer with a few stock effects. It doesn't even sound like it could possibly be Obi-Wan. So i guess this is what is going to eb in the new mix. If this is what we've got to look forward too then i really do fear that the mix will outdo the 2004 version as being the worse ever Star Wars IV mix.

Here is the sound if you want to hear it:

And no, this isn't fake. Anyone who has the "sounds" book will verify this.

Are you being ignored by Jedi Temple34?

No its not! Its about someone who is trying to come out of closet to confess, that he’s really homosexual.

Please grow up and get used to the fact you’re on the ignore list!

It’s not a laughing matter no more! It’s childish!

Pot kettle and black. You tell someone to grow up and yet you resort to the most childish thing by calling someone gay. Very mature that. And you're supposed to be 43? Geez. It's idiots like you that make me ashamed to be British. Man, we stopped calling people out like that when we left the playground And how is this any more childish that throwing your dummy out of the pram going around the internet posting the same old crap about how you won't buy the star wars blu-rays because they'll have DTS audio even though you know nothing about this? You are coming across far more immature than Frink is. At least Frink is being humorous when you are coming across as a little psychotic. I mean, come on, you put the same crap almost word for word on comments on star wars videos on you tube, star wars pages on facebook and then you invade here.

Now grown up or piss off to another site!

And you've been a member how long? What gives you the right to tell someone to piss off to another site just because you don't like them, especially when they have been here a lot longer than you have?. This isn't your site you know. The thread wasn't started to be about you. It was about who was being ignored by you because you put almost everyone on your ignore list which is something that was unheard of, especially putting people on the list you had had no interaction with. And don't come back with that "must have been a software glitch" bullshit that you spouted earlier because we're not as dumb as you try to make out.

Take a step back, look in the mirror and realise that you have some serious issues and then maybe you won't be the biggest joke on these forums

EDIT: I just noticed that you took me off your ignore list. I guess i'm back on it. Or are you going to be man enough to take some criticism? And i know what i wrote has come across as harsh but it really pisses me off when a newbie comes in here and starts telling older members to piss off out and think they own the boards. If you could hold a civil conversation like your reply ion the blu ray thread then i would be more than happy to have a proper conversation with you and be civil towards you. Sometimes you just do need to take a step back and see how you are coming across, because it isn't good at times.

I will refuse to buy STAR WARS on bluray!

I find some bluray ether too dark comparing some generation of laserdisc to DVD to bluray (some).

A lot of these problems can be down to the fact that many laserdiscs were overly bright due to the telecine process  but also can be down to the colour range a player uses for blu-ray. Some players will default at 0-255 for blu-ray and this can look too dark if watched on a CRT or older LCD/PLasma that don't support the extended range. Whereas DVD should play at 16-235 which is the range both DVD's and Blu-rays are encoded at. If you player has an extended range setting in its setup then disable it and you'll notice a big difference. But the last thing si that its a fad with hollywood at the moment to crush blacks to give deeper black levels when transferring a movie. This is more than evident on the Star Wars DVDs so it's nothing to do with Blu-Ray as its been happening on DVD for a while now

Just a few quick answers for the moment:

A-man, is that onboard graphics you have? A better video car will help with the lagging in Vegas. Laragith codec does cause a bit of lagging but it seems to be pretty much eliminated since i got the new graphics card. If you want to just check a section you can just highlight it then press "shift+b" and this will give you a RAM preview. How long you get is dependant on you machine. If you are trying to do an audio track and the lagging is preventing this then create a MPEG2 render of your video and import that then use this track for your main video while working on audio. You won't get any lagging

The Emperors dialogue will be the way it was in 1980, apart from maybe having "Young" instead of "Luke" unless i can get it to sound seemless. It will not contain any of the 2004 dialogue. This extra dialogue was unnecessary and one of the worse additions to the DVD set next to Hayden ghost.

Great mockups savmagoett. I'm adding a lot of background activity to give a greater depth and sense of scale to the transport hangars. Making the foreground smaller is impossible because there are some that walk off screen, including Ralph McQuarrie, and i don't want to lose his cameo

$42, 000 poster
Time

Jedi Temple34 said:

LAMO that poster will never sale unless the buyer is total STAR WARS nerd. I can buy re-print issues for under £10.00 pounds what a joke! Plus the fact its all creased up and not rolled up! So why would someone pay $42grand for some paper! You could use it as expensive rough toilet paper!

Somehow i highly doubt you could by a reprint of that poster for £10. Did you even bother to look at the size of that poster before making such a lame remark? 5ft x 11ft.And you say that you once worked in the cinemas so you should know that at that time many posters of that size were given to the cinemas folded and not rolled because of the size. i have a supersize poster of the Star Wars / Empire double bill that i got direct from my local cinema and that was folded exactly the same way when they received it.

Yes, it is grossly overpriced and you must have more money than sense to pay that much for a poster.
