Farewell hangar set š¦
Farewell hangar set š¦
The IMAX aspect ratio was 1.44:1. Itās impossible to crop a 2.35:1 footage to 1.44:1. Do you realise how ridiculous the shot would look?
Is it possible that the entire IMAX scene was not in 1.44:1/1.90:1 (LIEMAX)? Maybe this BB8 shot was in 2.35:1, but it was so short and it was a fast scene that you didnāt notice the aspect ratio shift? I mean Iāve read in many forums that people failed to notice aspect ratio shifts on fast shots of partially IMAX filmed movies.
Even if this shot was in Full/half IMAX, I doubt it was a cropped shot. Because a zoom-in of a scope shot would look too big and bad on a giant screen.I think, if you plan on doing a final version, please at least consider using the uncropped anamorphic shots. Those BB8 shots were done with 2.35:1 locked shots. Thereās virtually no information left on the top and bottom. So, there is no way those shots could be opened up on an IMAX scene. The texture of those shots look very much like ones from anamorphic lenses. There is more grain, which wonāt be the case with the IMAX scenes in the first place.
I have just got back from the Imax showing of TFA at Cineworld for the mini Imax festival they were doing today. I can confirm that the none Imax shots for this sequence are indeed cropped & zoomed so that the whole sequence is opened up all the way through. It does NOT swap between ratios. So The Imax recreation i did is correct
The surprise they are going to announce at Celebration could be a lot of things.
A new blu ray release of the movies with special packaging and new special features
4K blu rays of all the existing Star Wars movies
3D versions of all the Star Wars movies released in theaters
Original Unaltered TrilogyI just have a feeling they are going to make an announcement and itās going to be a letdown for me. I want the Original Unaltered Trilogy, not more of the special editions.
I have a feeling itās likely to be a 3D saga theatrical run or 3D saga Blu-Ray set.
Well to me itās the cheapest looking SW of the entire series (R1 included) with some questionable CGI (Falcon on Jakku, some shots of the troopers geeting killed near Maz castle that are more or less the same quality of PT clone troopers) and empty production value (the resistance base, very lazy setā¦), so I donāt think the size of the print would change anything š
But maybe Iām harsh with modern CGI and I tend to be more tolerant for older movies.
Except that the troopers being killed at Mazās castle were real stunt people in costume, not CGi.
Just adding the finishing touches to the Rebel transport hangar ready for filming tonight. A bit more snow to add to the floor in places and then finalise the lighting of the set. Itās lit by the daylight coming through the window in these pictures and will look a lot different one the proper lighting is sorted and the smoke pumped into the room.
You can hear Shelaghās normal voice here ( from 16:30). The dubbing was done because George decided during the edit that he wanted Beru to have an American accent and she spoke with her English accent on set. But you can tell that itās the same person.

With Hayden being on the 40th Anniversary panel, we can kiss goodbye any chance that they will be announcing the unaltered versions being released. There is no way on earth they would have him there only to announce that they are going to give us the originals which would remove him appearing in the film and a scene that was hated by many since the change. If they do end up announcing them, just how awkward would that be? š
Revisited does have an accurate flight suitā¦
An ESB snowspeeder flight suit, not an ANH one
So, with the digital download available today, the total length combined of all the special features (minus the Target exclusives) has been reported as just 1hr 8mins. Thatās pityful.
March update:
Today iām putting the finishing touches to the transport hangar miniature (well not that miniature with it measuring 9ft L x 6ft W x 3ft H š ) Just the cosmetics now like adding the snow to the floor, adding the ships, cargo and other set decorations etc. Testing out the lighting before everything is pieced together and found one of the ceiling lights died, so had to rip that out and replace, but the rest seem fine. Filming this set should be happening in the next few days
now the Wampa is proving to be a bit of a B*stard. The cabling system for the mouth has stopped working for some reason now itās installed. In tests it worked fine but now the mask is ready for installation, its snagging somewhere as the cable has become too tight to pull. But i just canāt see what is causing it. The cable is running freely through the outer casing, the mouth hing is moving freely and is able to be moved with just a very light touch, but once you pull on the cable it just wonāt move. But iāll figure this out. If not then it could mean scrapping the Wampa, which i donāt want to do, because the mouth movement is essential to this.
So i should have both the hangars filmed by the end of the month/ first week in April. A few weeks worth of work adding all of the extra stuff in the composition and itās then just the wampa. So the end is very close now. Once i have the hangars finished and added to the editing timeline i will finally have a good idea of a release date, so check back sometime in April for that š
Because there wonāt be much to update you on in the mean time, the next update will be mid to late April (apart from maybe some pics of the hangars). But that will be an update you wonāt want to miss. So asking for constant updates/ asking if its been delayed because i havenāt posted in a few weeks, wonāt make any difference. I will post updates when i am good and ready š
Did anyone else notice just how much smaller the Lucasfilm logo and āa long time agoā¦ā text was at the beginning of Rogue One compared to the saga films?
Donāt yell at me but do you know whatās going on with empire revisited? Did it get delayed again or did something happen to adywan is he ok?
For every post you make asking the same stupid āis it delayedā questions, i delay the project by one month. so, after counting up the times you have said this so far, the project is now scheduled to be released in May 2187
š
This āsurprise announcementā (very vague) will either be the unaltered versions hitting blu-ray at long last or have nothing at all to do with a re-release of the movies.
But, as i have said before, there has been nothing even mentioned about a āsurprise announcementā happening at Celebration. Itās just something that has been twisted from the official announcement of the panel.
The only two official things said about the 40th panel that mentions anything about āsurprisesā :
Official Star Wars site:
ā¦this marquee Celebration event will undoubtedly include many not-to-be-missed surprises.
Andi Gutierrez on the Star Wars Show:
Celebration is the place for surprises, make sure you attend this event. Thatās all we are going to say.
NOTHING about any announcement being one of the āsurprisesā.
Does Adywanās Revisited project not count?
no not that what he said was heās not updating things like the cgi ships going to attack the death star etc. cgi bespin cgi tatoonie cgi ending of jedi etc.
No i did NOT say that at all. I havenāt even mentioned how iām going to end ROTJ or what changes i will be making for ANH:R HD.
Iām not sure why people are saying that there is going to be a big surprise at the 40th anniversary panel and jumping to this meaning they will announce the OUT being released. The report seems to have been twisted a little to suit this theory, when in fact the announcement actually is a little different:
āAs is tradition, this marquee Celebration event will undoubtedly include many not-to-be-missed surprises.ā
All this means is that there could be some surprises, usually surprise guests, unseen footage or something else along those lines. Same type of thing happens every celebration.
The sad fact is, if they donāt announce that they are releasing the theatricals at Celebration, then thats the end of it. Itās the optimal time to release them, being the 40th anniversary. In 2020, when Disney will get the full rights to the other 5 films, the next release will be the 3D prequel trilogy with a 4k SE trilgoy later once Disney start supporting the format. In this case the chance of seeing the OUT will most likely be AFTER George has passed. I wouldnāt put it past him to have stipulated never to release the originals. The only glimmers of hope is 1:-the strained relations between George and Disney since TFA went into production and he announced before they had a chance about the big 3 being in it and then them chucking out Georges treatments ( followed by the āwhite slaversā and other negative comments George made about disney and TFA) and 2:- better quality fan restorations and their greater media attention cutting into Disneyās chances of maximum profits for an official release
Itās likely just a mistake. I checked the .com site and ROTJ listing only has the theatrical which, if it was the theatrical, they should also be listing the SE digital version too, but they donāt. The .co.uk site doesnāt have the theatrical tag
Prowse has been lied to and screwed over by Lucas from day one, so Iām not surprised he was āacting as jerkā. I certainly trust him more than Lucas when it comes to the history of these movies, considering Lucasā entire version of events has been contradicted by other figures in one way or another over the years. It seems more likely to me that Prowse was banned from LFL events for not sticking to the āofficial storyā.
Nobody is claiming Lucas to be a saint.
But Prowse was in hot water the moment he leaked the ESB twist well before the film ever came out. He was also never hired to voice or physically (as in, out of the suit) play Darth Vader, Lucas just said he might be able to; not to mention he was barely in ROTJ and fired before the mask scene was even filmed. This stuff happens all the time, and thatās hardly being "lied to."
Prowse is not some poor innocent victim nasty old Lucasfilm bullied for fun.
Yet he never leaked the ESB twist. This has been proven since. That article came out before ESB had even started filming. The reporter on that article never even got to speak to Prowse at this even where he is supposed to have said this. His source was someone very close to Lucas but he had to use a name for the quote and he used Prowseās. It was impossible for Dave to have even known that twist, especially when they hadnāt even been given the script at this point and even if he had a copy, it had " obi-wan killed your father" as the twist.
But that isnāt even the article that turned george against Prowse. It was an article in a UK newspaper during the time ROTJ was in production which gave away the fact that Darth Vader was going to die at the end of ROTJ. That again used Daveās name as the source and George went batshit crazy at him and thatās when it all started. He even refused to invite him to the UK premier because of it. But go watch the doc āI am your Fatherā. The original reporter is interviewed and he tells how they were getting leaks and that they had to have a name to back up the story so, yet again, used Daveās name. He NEVER leaked anything to the press.
Even though this is widely-known information, for reliable source you can refer to Making of ESB by Rinzle
Those books arenāt as āreliableā as you may think. People who worked on those movies have stated that they are basically the āRevised history according to George Lucasā.
About the X-wing engines : I remembered to watch for them the second time I saw Rogue One and on Eadu research planet when itās quite dark they are red but on Scarif when itās bright daylight they are pink. So I would hope that Adywan follows that logic, that way we can have it both ways and more people would be happy with the result. (Yes I like red more) =)
Theyāre still pink during the Eadu attack
The site makingstarwars.net posted a rumor about the release of the OOT for the 40th anniverary:
http://makingstarwars.net/2017/02/rumor-unaltered-original-star-wars-trilogy-re-released-year/
They state: āSeveral sources have let us know it was coming and it appears to actually be on the way this time.ā
Just getting an Error 404 when clicking on that link
EDIT: Itās working again now.
Blu-Ray details announced:
http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-a-star-wars-story-arrives-soon-digital-hd-blu-ray
So NO deleted scenes, doesnāt look like thereās a long behind the scenes feature, just small featurettes and again Target exclusive content, so screw the rest of the world yet again.
Just about finished all the hair punching on the front and sides of the mask. A very tedious and time consuming task. Once all that is done i can fix the mask onto the inner skull, start styling and dirtying up the fur and add the frosting effect to it.
The X-wing engines were originally pink in ANH. The engine colour changed when it came to ESB & ROTJ, when they became red. But now, with Rogue One using the original colour for the engines, and the possibility of me doing an edit of R1 for personal viewing, it makes sense to have the engines the same colour throughout.
No issues with what you do and your decisions but Iāll remind you about the āBlueā star fields so how much bleed is coming in from contrast bleed to the image?
If you add blue to red you get pink⦠So I donāt know I think Iāll blame you for making them Red and making me believe they are āmeantā to be red. But then also It is something that was hand painted on and would have been one of the last things added to the image so honestly I donāt know it might be worth assessing the blue star fields at some point and see if it is impacting the color of the engines?
You know more about this stuff than I do but is there any possibility the engines were meant to be red? I just thought it looked better aesthetically anywayā¦
Interesting though all the same. š
Your theory about the starfield making the engines pink doesnāt hold up when you consider ROTJ. That is the one film that has really heavy blue cast starfields and the engines in that are red. š Plus, the engines arenāt hand painted in the originals. They were done by doing a separate motion controlled light pass of the models, with just the engines lit, against a black background and then composited on top.

Would you change them to pink in ESB and ROTJ as well? Since the engines are pretty pink in TFA, would this not provide optimal consistency? Not that I am wanting to keep adding work on Empire but I would think that would make sense.
Check the x-wing pic from ESB:R a few posts back š

You mentioned rolling back the Revisited Death Star Plans because of Rogue One. Just wondered if you plan on going back to the pink X-Wing engine glow too.
Yes, the engines are now pink.
Progress on the Wampa;
Started layering the fur onto the mask. A very time consuming task as this has to be done in small sections at a time. Iāll be gluing the fur onto the mask as much as possible and then hair punching the rest to blend in the edges to give a more natural look.
