The Rise Of Skywalker - Abrams' Vision or Executive Meddling?

Dude, stop trying to blame everything on TLJ. That movie wasn’t universally hated like you think, most people actually liked it. The reason Solo bombed was because of Disney’s terrible marketing decisions, and TROS’s performance is actually pretty good for the third installment of a series. The anger of a few hardcore fans had nothing to do with it.

Revenge of the sith made more than AOTC

Return of the Jedi was dead even with empire strikes back

The sequel trilogy just went downhill with every installment with its latter two installments having the worst legs in December box office history

Do you really want to argue with math?

Well, lets talk the maths…

Stats or original release for the OT:

ANH - $503,015,849
ESB - $400,083,259
ROTJ - $374,593,074

And those were different times than now. Before the internet and before the rise of the internet trolls and “youtubers” shitting all over everything. ROTJ broke weekend box office records, but the numbers dropped pretty fast after the first week.

Sith made more than AOTC because of the hype surrounding Vader appearing in it and people hoping it would feel more like the OT. They wanted to see the Vader hunting down the jedi, they wanted to see the duel over lava and anakin become vader. It is something fans had wanted to see for decades. You can’t beat that type of hype.

So lets use other stats. Ticket sales. Est # ticket sales for each film (domestic) in ascending order:

ANH 178,119,500
TFA 108,115,100
ESB 98,213,400
ROTJ 94,059,400
TPM 90,312,100
TLJ 67,594,500
ROTS 59,324,600
ROS 54,984,300
AOTC 53,468,500

Jesus, fans must have hated ESB. Just look at how many less tickets were sold for that films compared to its predecessor.

The sequel trilogy performed perfectly well. You have to remember that China is a HUGE market for the film industry and its only in recent years that China has even shown any of the Star Wars films. So they haven’t grown up with the films and have an attachment to them as we all do. So a big chunk of the box office market is gone right there. Yet all three earned over $1 billion.

Solo under-performing had nothing to do with TLJ either. Right from the films announcement a lot of the fanbase just wasn’t that interested in the idea of it. Having someone playing Han Solo who wasn’t Harrison Ford turned them off the film right away. That was back in 2015, when Star Wars fever was at a high, 6 months prior to TFA being released. And then followed all the reports of the troubles during the making of it etc. That really didn’t help.

Then you had George jumping in and throwing his dummy out the pram after TFA because they didn’t use his story treatments> calling Disney the “white slavers” etc. You have that section of the fanbase that were loyal to george that decided they were going to boycott the Disney Star Wars out of loyalty to George.

On top of that you had the “Legends” crown that were boycotting everything because “Disney destroyed our Star Wars”

But what is really turning fans off Star Wars, isn’t the movies or TV series, but a certain section of the fanbase. Sucking the fun out of any online discussion about the franchise. You can’t even discuss the Disney films without a bunch of assholes jumping in, telling them that they are an idiot/ moron who must have low IQ if they liked the ST.

2020 Blu Rays - are they worth it?

In the UK, if you buy a blu-ray only disc, you get the new masters on that blu-ray.

in the US, if you buy a blu-ray only disc, you get the 2011 discs repackaged. The only way to get new masters on blu-ray in the US is to buy a 4K disc that comes with the new masters on the pack-in blu-ray.

It’s pretty much pot luck if you buy the single blu-rays in the UK. Amazon, you’re not guaranteed to get the 2020 version. At HMV, someone i know purchased the OT as separates. ANH was 2011, ESB was 2020, ROTJ was 2011. HMV refused to take the 2011 discs back as the package was opened. So he ordered ANH & ROTJ from Zavvi. Got ANH 2020 & ROTJ 2011. The packaging is identical too so there’s no way of knowing which version you will get even if you go into a shop and check the covers. So now he is stuck with 2 versions of ROTJ and no way of knowing if he buys another copy if it will be the new version or not. Until all the old stock of the September 2019 releases are sold, its a risk buying them as separates.

2020 Blu Rays - are they worth it?
Time

If you are going to buy the blu-rays, you HAVE to buy them as a box set or with the 4k separate versions. If you buy the blu-rays individually, then you end up getting the 2011 versions you already have. If you are going to upgrade to 4k in the future then just go for the 4k versions now, because they include the 2020 versions of the OT and you won’t have to double dip in the future once you upgrade

Convert True HD 5.1 to WAV
Time

Create a new project. Set the audio to 5.1. Create 6 audio tracks on your timeline. in the surround pan box on each track, move the orange diamond to the speaker that corresponds with the surround channel you want to use that track for. Make sure you then mute all other speakers that are not being used for that track by clicking on each one. When muted the unused speakers will be a lighter grey. Right click on the surround box on each track and set the pan type to “Balance 0db” for the first 5 tracks. on the 6th track, right click on the surround box and set that to “LFE only” . Import your mono wavs and place them on the corresponding track. Now you can export them to wav64 using the “Sony wav64 - 48,000hz 24bit 5.1 PCM” preset. Don’t have “enable multichannel mapping” ticked. then export you file. When you want to import it back into vegas , import the file then drag it onto your timeline to create new tracks ( a blank area below your existing audio tracks). Don’t drag it onto existing tracks as this can mess up the channel mapping. It will create 4 new tracks: Stereo F&R, Mono Centre, Stereo SL&SR and LFE.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Something that plagues ROTJ is the fact that so many shots in the film are out of focus. While most aren’t too noticeable, there are two shots at the beginning of the film that have bugged me since 1983.

In the Death Star hangar, when Vader is conversing with Jerjerrod, the focus switches to closeups shot. First shot of Vader is perfectly in focus, then the following 2 shots of Vader are completely out of focus. Lucking this turned out to be a not overly difficult to fix. The lens focus cased the highlights on Vader’s helmet to duplicate, so it was just a case of rotoscoping each detail individually then re-aligning the details to create in-focus shots of Vader and then a little clean up work. This process isn’t likely to work on other out of focus shots though, but at least i’ve been able to fix these the two shots that have bugged me for so long…

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Work on Revisited has restarted…

So today i started delving into the new Blu-Ray versions of the OT, beginning with ROTJ as this is the one i will be using these versions for. Well it is the best the trilogy has looked on home video. Which, in itself , is a very sad statement to make. A very subpar release i’m afraid. Although the grading doesn’t suffer as bad as the 2011 Blu-rays, it isn’t great either. Whereas the 2011 blu-rays suffered with oversaturated colours and a heavy blue tint, these ones are very undersaturated and it seems like the blues have almost been stripped from the film. Skies are almost grey and other areas that should have heavy blues are missing almost all traces of blue colour. So, where i thought that ROTJ wouldn’t need so much of a regrade as it would have using the 2011 blu-rays, turns out there needs to be as much, if not more, work done in that area.

Now getting onto the image quality. While , again for the most part, the quality of the video is much better than the previous 2011 blu-ray set, it does suffer with many problems. Most of it is down to RelianceMediaworks grain reduction/ restoration. Static/ frozen grain is a problem that plagues releases they have worked on. Background really suffer with frozen grain. While the image is static, it doesn’t pose too much of an issue. But if the background is moving along with the shot, then it makes the background look like its a still image just sliding across the screen, almost making the shot look like the background was added at a later time. The biggest static/ frozen grain problem though is when it is on people faces/ bodies. The frozen grain then unnaturally moves with the character, while still being frozen. Then there are areas of the image where RelianceMediaworks algorithm seems to have missed the grain completely and actually over-sharpened it. I’ve been doing some experiments to eliminate/reduce this problem and , so far, the results are promising. Sadly this isn’t going to be just a case of adding a filter to remove the frozen grain. Each shot will have to be worked on individually. Each shot will require multiple mask layers to separate background and foreground objects to apply filters to reduce this problem. Sadly adding a layer of slight film grain doesn’t hide this problem, so heavy rotoscoping & multiple mask layers is the only route. Then, once this cleanup is done, a slight layer of film grain can be added to match the previous 2 films in the Revisited saga. Very time consuming, but it will be worth it.

Another problem with the grain reduction is that the digital noise reduction has been applied to heavily on many shots, destroying a hell of a lot of detail. These shots are spread throughout the film and are worse quality than the old 2011 blu-ray set (as you can in the comparisons between the 2020 blu-ray set and the 2011 in the link below). (either press the number on your keyboard that corresponds with the image to cycle through them or click on each tab)

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/91J0CNNU

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/7YDYLNNX

Now , for these type of shots, I will be replacing them with the 2011 versions. With some clean-up work these shots can look pretty good, much better than they are on this new set. Here is a rough example of what can be done.

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/91J1JNNU

that last shot also shows ( in motion it can be seen much clearer) another problem with this new set: the use of Power Windows. This is where an area is masked off so that a different grading can be applied to it. In that shot, Han and Leia have been badly masked off and have been brightened. The problem is that the shadow areas have also been brightened and do not blend in with the surrounding areas. What is worse is that the mask is so badly applied that is doesn’t follow the movement of the characters and then they have what looks like a black line around them at times. It’s horrendously bad. Theres a bit in ANH when they pull up to the cantina where this has also been badly applied. In the background as they get out from the speeder in front of the cantina, the background buildings have been masked to enable a different grading for the sky. But when the camera moves, the mask doesn’t move with it correctly and the sky in that area becomes a sandy colour. Although this one isn’t as noticeable as other ones

Now we get onto the films grading. Dull. That’s all I can say about it really. It’s so lacking. Like I said before, they seem to have gone the other way with this release and removed a lot of the blues that should be there and reduced the saturation . When you look at older releases of the OT, prior to the 2004 SE’s, you can see just how much the colouring differs. Thankfully we have the 4k83 releases, which are scanned from original film prints and give us a better idea of that the grading should or can look like. While these may not be 100% accurate to how the film originally looked, they’re the closest we are going to get. So I have been tinkering with the grading to try and get it to look more like the 4k83 versions. Below are a few examples of a test regrade.

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/7YDG7NNX

http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/91191NNU

So , that’s it for now. The grain cleanup is going to take a while and then I can move onto the grading.

It’s a continuity mess the way the battle has been edited. Blue groups was also in there originally, which were the B-wings. But who the hell is Lando the leader of? In ROTJ:R, the Y-wings return to being Gold group and the B-wings are back as Blue group. Grey group is gone.

Gold squadron was reformed with a mix of different starfighters and the Millennium Falcon.
On screen members are Gold Leader, Lando Calrissian, Gold Four(A-Wing), Jake Farrell, and Gold Nine(Y-Wing), Norra Wexley, flying through the Death Star reactor shaft.

Is that how they tried to explain things in the EU? oh dear. I’m so glad i’m ignoring the EU.

But, my statement still stands. The battle is a mess of continuity, especially where squadron colours/ pilots are concerned. Wedge tells red 2 & 3 to pull in and yet an a-wing (green squadron) replies. We have an Y-wing shooting ties and Wedge congratulating Red 2, even though this same pilot was already identified as Grey Leader at the beginning of the battle. The whole space battle needs sorting

  1. Are you gonna use the deleted scenes of the crew in the falcon and the guys manning the turrets?

I can tell you that, unfortunately, that’s a no. Ady has said that footage just isn’t salvageable to an acceptable level.
However, Ady does have a crew filming new scenes in the California Red Woods to expand the Endor ground battle!

Actually that is some of the only footage for ROTJ that could now possibly be used, with a lot of work, especially now with Topaz upscaling AI being available along with better noise reduction software . The rest of the deleted scenes from Jedi go from low quality to less-than-laserdisc quality, so can’t be used. But most of the shots inside the falcon are rubbish anyway. Why the hell are they running through the corridors with guns during the space battle? Maybe one or two shots, if any at all, may be used

Inspired by Sir Ridley, I thought to myself, What if I projected the image of the Death Star into a proper sphere that had the correct volumes of the superlaser, the trench, and the cuts in the surface as the Death Star II?

Here is a broad test. It allows you to move the view slightly. At some point you start seeing the trick, but it could be a nice tool to get static different points of views (by reparing the image a little) or to get slight movement like Sir Ridley suggested.

https://youtu.be/jkrWhBfGcBg

That’s amazing. I love just how much talent there is in these forums. Could something like this be used on a static image of a ship, like the Executor, just to give it some subtle 3d movement as it moves across the screen?

It would be interesting if a new more enhanced puppet of Sy Snootles was used.

This was the plan originally. I was thinking about building a full size puppet that would be manipulated the same was 3p0 was in Episode 1. That way, it could be walking and moving more naturally. The CG version is just horrendous but the original puppet also has its problems, but it still looks better than the 97 abomination. Sadly i don’t think that the new puppet could be pulled off on such a small budget.

Unpopular suggestion: can Ady cut the crying rancor keeper? I’ve hated it since I first watched the film and its removal would help reduce the bloat of the Jabba section.

I quite like the Rancor keeper getting upset. So that will be staying.

I have an idea: when Vader witnesses Luke being electrocuted by Palpatine, he should say “Leave my son alone.” instead of “NOOO!!!”. What do you think?

That scene should remain without dialogue, as it was originally.

The DS crew in this scene are all wearing black gloves but then in the next shot a gloveless hand is shown pushing a button.

Adywan, you could use your own hand for that shot.

Things like this will also be fixed

ChainsawAsh said:

It’d also be nice for the writing on the screen to be rewritten with the “actual” Aurebesh alphabet (which was used for the tractor beam text in the 2004 SE of ANH). As it is now, it’s just gibberish.

But yeah, replacing the naked hand with a glove is a good call.

Most of the displays will be replaced anyway, so the text will end up saying something. Like i did in ANH 😉

Matt.F said:

Actually talking of voices, and from the same opening scene with the ‘ungloved hand’, the blond Imperial Officer who says “Inform the Commander that Lord Vader’s shuttle has arrived” speaks with a very noticeably American accent.

If you watch ESB and ROTJ back-to-back its actually quite jarring to hear the US accent from an Imperial officer right at the start of the film - in ESB the British accent was the voice of the Empire’s officer class and it gave the Empire a certain haughty aristocracy that worked very well.

Hardly a game changer but I think redubbing a British accent for that officer would be a nice little improvement to the movie.

I may be removing this line of dialogue anyway. This is something that has always bugged me with ROTJ. Ruined reveals. Take this opening scene for instance. The shuttle arrives, then Moff Jerjerrod is waiting nervously. The shuttle door opens. But not directly revealing who it is. Instead it starts showing only the feet then panning up to reveal it’s Vader. But this was ruined because the audience has just been told that its Vader in the shuttle. Another is the reveal of the Ewoks. The gang escapes the net only to be surrounded by some strange small creatures. Any suspense as to the nature of these creatures was already ruined by having the scene with Wicket and Leia. Also that scene ruins the reveal that leia is ok when she emerges from the hut in the Ewok village and also the jeapody of Han and co searching for her. We already know she is ok. Removbe the commander telling us its vader in the shuttle and the whole scene works better. Remove the Leia and Wicket scene and everything after that works better too. Just have the scene play out that you see this unknown creature approach leia and poke her with the spear, leia awakes started and…cut. We don’t know her fate. We don’t know these little guys are ultimately friendly.

One of the things that I loved the most in ANH:R was the seamless inclusion of the planet Yavin in the background of the final battle. (Not actually sure if Yavin is the name of the moon, or the planet…) It added a striking visual element and a sorely needed piece of geographical continuity.

It might be neat to try something similar here, unless if would be too visually distracting; there’s a LOT more going on in this fight!

Adding a large planet that isn’t Endor into the mix during the battle would be too similar to ANH:R. Plus we already have the Endor moon being so prominent. Adding another would become distracting.

Chopper is already in ESB:R 😉

Im doing a prequel trilogy and was wondering how you were handling Leiah knowing her mother if at all. I want to make the prequels fit with the Ot and not spoil or mess anything up with continuity. Not sure how i should handle the twins just yet

I believe Adywan said he’s omitting the scene where Leia says she remembers her mother.

Someone should do a flashback scene where Padme names her children in ROTJ as Obi-wan tells Luke about Leia, but it should be removed from Revenge of the Sith.

No, i never said i would be removing that. I was originally going to fix that when doing ROTS, but as i am no longer doing the prequels, i’m not bothered about the continuity. George messed up, pure and simple. The problem was never with the OT as these came first. If it was to be altered to fix this ( instead of fans trying hard to explain the error by claiming she was remembering her adopted mother, even though Luke clearly asker about her “real mother”, or that she remembers it through a force vision) then it needed to be altered in ROTS. My original plan was to have padme live, but hidden from the emperor and Vader on Alderaan, and Leia adopted.

Was there that much travel time between Death Star 2 and Endor via shuttle ? Or did Vader go off and meditate for a while before departing ? I guess this could be open to a lot of speculation .

…Luke says to Leia “Vader’s here - on this moon…” when Vader hasn’t landed yet.

Any thoughts on this?

Vader is already on the moon. We just see his shuttle land on one of the pads where and AT-AT is docking. Vader could just have come from the shield base and not just arrived from the Death Star.

There are two very different kinds of explosion effect in the OT. Where they’ve blown up a miniature it’s great. Where they’ve merely match cut to a firework going off it’s hardly more “realistic” than a CG one. The latter can still work fine (they used it for the Death Stars after all) but in some cases the mismatch between the miniature and the firework is jarring.

Yeah exactly, which is what I mean when I say in some ways they aren’t better, though in other ways they are, like the fact that they’re actual photographed explosions.

Even still you can’t quite delineate between a miniature exploding and a match cut to an explosion. The DSII for instance is the latter but it’s one of the best in the series because they lit up the miniature for the shot before it cuts to the explosion, so you have a relatively seamless combination of the two elements.

Speaking of, to put us back on topic, has ady said if he’ll be keeping the praxis wave for the explosion? It’s the one added praxis ring that I think actually adds a little something to the effect and energy of the shot (with the Falcon outrunning it being one last thrill). One of the only SE additions I miss a little when I watch the OOT.

No, i never really liked the praxis effect for the Death Star explosions, only planet explosions, especially in ROTJ where it would have devastated the facing section of Endor.

I’m not sure if anyone has brought this up. Its bound to be controversial but, is there any footage from ‘Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure’/‘Ewoks: The Battle for Endor’ that could be useful to supplement the Endor scenes.

Its very likely the footage is too low quality and idk if there are any “good quality” sources for it out there. But it might have useful shots/clips of Ewoks or the forest in there. It would be unsurprising if its a no, though.

Even with the new upscaled fan made version of Battle of Endor (which i think is amazing by the way and applaud DarthPyro52 for what he was able to accomplish) , the footage is too low quality to be used on it own. I have been looking through to see if i can add elements to new plates for the ground troop battle. But, until i can start some tests, i don’t know if integrating elements from the Ewok movies would work for what i need.

Telion said:

Adywan, in your full list of changes you’ve put:
“Have a small portion of the Ewok celebration which then leads to the funeral pyre scene. This is where the Force Ghosts will appear and the film will end with Luke being alone (which in turn foreshadows TFA).”

And I was just wondering where the stance is on that now. After TLJ/TROS, I know I’m not sure about how to feel when it comes to the sequel trilogy. I liked TFA, but it didn’t stand on its own and kind of hung on ANH/the promise of solid sequels but, given the disjointed nature of that trilogy… idk.
The real reason I ask is because, if that sort of open-ended ending was still part of you’re plan, then…

Spoilers for Rise of Skywalker

Could that new scene of Luke training Leia work as an alternative ending. It would still require trimming down the celebration and I’m not sure whether the pyre scene would work better where it is rn or just before the new scene, but I can imagine that scene fitting in there. I feel it would work well to act as a pay off to the whole “there is another” and give the whole siblings plot an actual conclusion, rather than just drama. It would also work for “haters” and fans of the Sequels alike, and would give credibility to certain controversial plot points that felt forced due to them having no setup.

Overall I believe it would add to the movie, and Star Wars saga, as (for some) the final movie in the saga, would end with Luke fulfilling his role of teaching the next generation of Jedi. The ‘Return Of The Jedi’.

Ending it on the pyre scene, with the ghosts added, was just an idea. The more i thought about it, the more i missed the celebration ( Yub-Nub, not the SE version with the ripped off native american/ new age music). The planet celebrations will still be erased ( why the hell are there thousands of people celebrating in mos eisley, a small spaceport?). The Empire isn’t fully defeated at this point and the celebrations are way too quick to happen. I’m going back to the pre-SE version of the ending ( with one or two changes, like the added wedge shots).

In this scene they aren’t connecting or communicating with each other. Vader and luke are just sensing each other, so the ESB effect doesn’t work here.

There is no “love triangle” in Star Wars OR Empire. In ANH Han only says he’s interested in her to wind up Luke. Luke is the only one to show any interest in her but there is nowhere that Leia shows anything more than friendship towards Luke. The kiss on the cheek during the chasm sequence is nothing more than a kiss for luck. In ESB Leia only kisses Luke in the medical bay to wind Han up. The kiss she gives Luke after they rescue him is nothing more than a friendly kiss. She has already announced her love for Han by this point. Luke doesn’t show any romantic interest in her at all.

Yet when we get to ROTJ, Han suddenly thinks Luke is a rival and becomes this jealous idiot? All that has to go. Han became a pretty much useless character as it is in Jedi, but this jealousy crap put it over the edge.

nonsense

Instead of giving just a one word reply, why don’t you explain why you think what i said was nonsense? But there is NO love triangle in SW and the original Love triangle in ESB was left on the cutting room floor. Even though minute hints of it still exists in some form, it was excised from the plot.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

Work will resume of the Revisited edits on September 14th. 😁😁😁

At the end of this month we will finally start to have a wage coming back into the household. Sadly a lot less than we had before, but at least its enough for us to cover our bills and food. And there are a LOT of people that are suffering a LOT more than we have than still don’t have this luxury.

Thank you so much to everyone that helped support me through these difficult times. I really can’t thank you enough. Yes, this period has created a hell of a lot of debt for us, but at least, thanks to you guys, we were able to cover some of our bills.

I must apologise for not doing the Q&A video that i originally promised. To be honest i just haven’t been in the right frame of mind to do anything like that. But it will be coming shortly after i restart work on the edits.
Things will still remain quite quiet until the start date because i’m still severely limiting the time spent on the computer to keep the electric bill low until we can start affording it again.

I’m also going to go back in this thread to try and answer as many of the questions asked that i have missed

Thank you all for being so understanding.

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

A lot of the CG done for the 1997 SE wasn’t even rendered in HD. Many of the elements were rendered in 480p due to budget and time. Nothing was rendered higher than 1080p. The negative was restored along with many of the original separate elements. The problem is that every re-composited shot in all 3 films were only done in 1080p. The elements were scanned @1080p, digitally re-composited into the computer, sharpening filters applied and then laser printed back onto film. The resolution of those shots is stuck @1080p.

DrDre said:

Sure, but the resolution wasn’t there in the first place, because the optical compositing severely degrades the image quality. In any case for the 4K release the effects shots were rendered at 4K resolution.

Only the added stuff done for the 2004/11 versions were redone (most but not all) for the 2019/20 Disney+/UHD releases . All of the original 1997 additions remain the same. There is a reason why ROTJ looks much better than the other two films. That’s the one that was the least tampered with digitally. 4K Star Wars looks like crap in many addition or digitally re-composited shots when compared to shots that haven’t been tampered with.

With the effects shot using the vistavision camera, even after optical compositing, the resolution doesn’t suffer too badly. It was the constant handling and dupe grain that caused most of the degradation. And, if these same restored elements were digitally scanned and re-composited today, they would look amazing. better than any shot redone for the SE

How to capture HDCP-encrypted HDMI sources (Vudu, Netflix, Directv, Virgin Media, etc.)

On the amazon reviews, it appears the newer versions of "ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Powered HDMI Mini Splitter for 1080P & 3D no longer strips HDCP

Any alternate suggestions?

I just purchased this HDMI splitter after recommendations that is removes HDCP (purchased from amazon uk).

Easycoolav USA website: https://www.easycoolav.com/products/4k60-hdmi-splitter-1-in-2-outdolby-vision-optical-audio-breakout

Amazon UK link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMI-Splitter-in2-out-60Hz-Black/dp/B085Q37JPR/

Arrived today and unfortunately , upon plugging my SKYQ box into the Hauppguage PVR2 through the splitter, it came up with the HDCP blank screen error. Went to the link to the official site above and downloaded the software package. Just plugged the HDMI splitter into my pc’s usb port (micro USB port in the splitter), installed the drivers, then used the software available in that package ( comes with easy video tutorial) to easily remove HDCP. Works a treat now and i can record 1080p from the SKYQ box. Haven’t been able to try to see if it works with 4k as i have no way of capturing 4K video.

Any info on the origin of that photo? That doesn’t look like Prowse in the suit. In fact, I’m not sure that’s even an ESB production suit at all. Almost looks more like a cos-player. It’s worth noting he’s missing his robe and codpiece in addition to the cape.

It isn’t from ESB’s production. It’s taken from vaderbase’s deviantart page

I guess with all the hype over Hayden donning the Vader suit, they didn’t want to publicize this at the time.

They missed out Daniel Naprous who was the actual Vader in Rogue One. Spencers Vader scenes were all reshot ( the inner cape was underneath the chest plate incorrectly during Spencers shoot) so , when doing the reshoots, they got Daniel Naprous to play Vader. Only one shot of Spencer remains in the movie

Does Vader fundamentally misunderstand what it means to be a Jedi?

Please take into account that the PT/ST didn’t exist when these scenes were created.

In ROTJ after Luke turns himself in on Endor, Vader admires his lightsaber saying “I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your training is complete” This would mean that constructing a lightsaber requires use of the Force:

The quote is "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete. ", not “your training”.

D+80 - Empire Strikes Back - 4K Theatrical Reconstruction (Released)
Time

Stotchy said:

Secondly, Hoth was always blue it was never white. Check the original film sources. Yes snow is white, but when lit it looks blue. Are the scenes in D+80 too blue? Maybe. But Hoth was never intended to be white even in 1980.

Actually, that’s not entirely true. Hoth snow was always meant to be white. Gary Kurtz said how hard they had to work to maintain the white colour of the snow while filming. When it came to duplicating the film for theatrical release, the process got screwed up. causing a heavy blue boost and shift. Gary said that the only time that Empire was ever screened and had the correct grading was at the 70mm premiers. While the 70mm release prints didn’t suffer the overly blue grading the 35mm prints were nothing like they had originally graded the film. The same thing happened with ROTJ. Most people would have seen ROTJ with a very heavy blue tint to it due to botched the duplication process. Compare a 35mm theatrical print with say a 35mm show print and you can see the difference in colour.

Small details that took you <em><strong>FOREVER</strong></em> to notice in the <em>Star Wars</em> films
Time

It’s not a car. For a start, a car would have destroyed the set and yet the windows are still intact at the end of the shot. Whatever it is has been superimposed after the scene was filmed. The object, along with an animated flash ( you can see the hand painted element around the officers hands in the first 2 pictures), has been slowed down by duplicating frames. Yet there are no duplicated frames with the on set footage, so this has to have been added after. And the object that people think are the car wheels, well that plays out at a normal framerate so is not part of that larger object.

Leias hologram in Ben’s hut is more transparent in the 2020 blu-ray, compared to the 2011, in the final shot:

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/2683

The 1997 version is the same transparency as the 2011 version

And in the first shot as the hologram appears, there is a strange animated painted blue blob that appears for a few frames over the hologram on obi-wan’s hand

https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/2684

That doesn’t appear in the 1997 version

From these comparisons, it appears that the 2020 version of ESB has been cropped quite a bit from the 2011 version. Is this accurate?

Yes, i can confirm that the 2020 version of ESB is not only more cropped than the 2011 version, but also stretched horizontally, causing very heavy cropping to the sides of the frame. These screenshots are taken directly from the blu-rays:
