Since I’d use the original NTSC audio and re-sync the language tracks from the PAL discs, I suppose it’s a matter of getting the sources synced at 24fps first. What’s the slickest way to get that done? Shot by shot as an image sequence?
Does someone have a strategy for or list of softwares to use to accomplish this?
I’ve seen laserdisc rips that mention “This has been captured 5 times, then averaged to reduce dot crawl and noise.”
I’m wondering how to go about this “averaging”, with perhaps more disparate sources. I’ve got an episode of X-Men The Animated Series in PAL and NTSC. After syncing the video to 24fps and matching up the progressive frames, I wonder if some details could be produced, while also reducing MPEG-2 artifacts, combing and coloured noise.

Rebels is cool or whatever, but after they directly tie into the events of Rogue One (if they ever do) they should do a Season (or five seasons) of stories set after the events of Return of the Jedi, before The Force Awakens.
Even if we don’t get the OOT, we will probably at least get a new transfer, so worst case scenario Despecialized will get alot better.

in the 97 special edition i wish they’d replaced the Emperor performance from Empire Strikes Back with footage filmed with Ian McDiarmid during the production of Return of The Jedi. what they replaced it with like 25 yrs later. was gahbage and he didn’t look like he did in RotJ.
i must also say that it’s better that the 97SE used the original emperor footage because this is originaltrilogy.com after all.
Swazzy’s Empire screengrabs look good. Rolls a bit of the ‘home video’ sheen off of the JSC. I think Yoda should look a bit more…green tho.

can Resolve import h264 mp4? i dont have a drive free to export to ProRes or anything of the sort. I tried to import the mp4 in After Effects and got this weird chroma shift effect.

the vii crawl score performance and recording is inferior to that of Empire Strikes Back, my favorite of the original trilogy.
s there a new way to get the AC-3 audio from a laserdisc to a compatible .ac3 file that can be played back on a computer and muxed with a video or authored to disc? I’ve read that Besweet can fix the file once you input the recording but I’m wonderin if there’s newer software than this.

…plugged from the coaxial output port of the Demodulator to the coaxial input port of your receiver/amplifier will work just as good.This setup got me through before I upgraded to HDMI ports.

Thanks! Got it. I’m planning to connect the demodulator to the S/PDIF port on my MOTU ultralite audio interface. Its worked fine so far connected directly from my laserdisc player, but I haven’t been able to test the digital coax output yet for lack of cabling.
Regarding that AC-3 RF jack on the back of my laserdisc player, do I need to connect that to my RF Demodulator with a Digital Coaxial cable?
The Yamaha APD-1 has two jacks for the demodulated AC-3 output (That’ll go to my receiver or audio interface, depending on the day) but I only have one digital coax cable to use right now.

MOTP has long been rumored and requested in a SE with features. Nothing has ever been done. DCAU titles only hit BD if an HD master exists or one can be easily made. I was shocked we’ve even gotten any.
MOTP is still stuck with the noisy outdated LD transfer. The 1.85 crop was hastily added for the rushed theatrical release and the 1.33 is open but there should be a compromise 1.66 made for BD likely. The color needs correction but is warmer that TAS because of the Technicolor printing. Sound on the LD is perfect.
Hopefully a print distributed during the theatrical release is in the wild to be scanned for use in a restoration project. I just got the LD and a new player to sync the uncompressed audio track with the DVD.

Have the interpositives that were created to be telecined to master tape for the Laserdisc/VHS releases beeb destroyed? that’d probably be the highest quality source for official remastering, right?
Is there any interest in obtaining a true 5.1 source or using the 6.1 source from the blu >rays etc?

If you need to cure your 5.1 fix, on the 'spleen there are audio files for the Star Wars Original Trilogy (aka. GOUT) that uses the rarely heard 1997 Special Edition sound mix made from the original CinemaDTS CD-ROM discs. Of course, portions of the audio include the sound mix from the GOUT to patch over footages where the 1997 SE audio would be out-of-place.
Just mux these to the MKV video and you are good to go.

Harmy, will the shots in the Millennium Falcon cockpit that are overcropped on the BD be replaced with 35mm scans instead of the 97SE in the 2.5 update, or re-done from scratch in 3.0?
just wanted to reiterate how awesome it is that 10 years after the GOUT DVDs there are this many patient, thorough and high-quality restorations and preservation efforts of theatrical presentation of the original trilogy. life is awesome.
