Neat! Never seen this before!

A quick google search for the artist makes me think it was a Dark Horse comic that never happened for some reason.

Apart from Luke looking a little bit wonky, I think the overall piece looks really cool and I love the retro sci-fi simplicity of “Space Pirates”. It reminds me of a book from the early 60’s I recently bought simply called “Space Vikings.” It’s the kind of pulpy sci-fi/fantasy I wish SW did more of nowadays, and now I really want to know what this comic would have been.

I saw someone in a comments section say that they thought older James Earl Jones’ voice for Vader (in Rogue One and Rebels) was somehow even more intimidating than the original voice. It’s a take I’d never seen before. Does anyone else think this?

I never really thought about it and just took it as a fact of life that Jones sounded older, but I can see the logic behind the argument. Jones’ voice isn’t as sharp and loud as it used to be, but in RO, and especially Rebels, it does have a very slow and gravelly quality to it that is a fair bit different to what we’ve gotten before. It has definitely given a subtly different quality to the more intelligent, scheming side of Vader, but I don’t think his angry or raging moments would work as well as the OT with Jones’ current voice. So I’m not sure if I’d personally go as far as saying its more intimidating, but I do think it still works really well and I disagree with the argument that Jones now sounds too old to properly play Vader.

It’s interesting how this episode expanded (to my knowledge anyway) how exactly Boba is a clone of Jango. I always took the “no accelerated aging” line from AOTC quite literally, assuming he was the exact same as the other clones just slow-growing, but now it seems that Boba and Omega are basically test-tube offspring with a single genetic ‘parent’. So basically their more akin to real-life cloning while the “regs” are carbon copies of Jango.

I would love to finally see the surface of Dantooine as we only saw the planet from space in Rebels, but doesn’t that look like an Imperial turbolaser?

Yes, it looks like the same type of turrets that were on the surface of the DS. I was so focused on the Hoth-type turret that I completely forgot about the other one. Then again, Andor should be a few years before the Rebel Alliance got proper support, i.e. Mon Calamari designed ships, and so forth, so I suppose at this point in canon they simply steal whatever they can get their hands on. I mean even some of the “Rebel ships” from the OT are canonically stripped down or modified Imperial or even Republic era ships; such as the Y-Wings being Clone Wars fighters and the Nebulon-B frigates being decommissioned Imperial vesels. But then again, the Hoth-turrets are probably stolen too, so this “Scottish planet” could simply be an Imperial setting. Though now I really do hope it’s actually Dantooine.

Minor point, but I would just like to point out how nicely the Scottish highlands could pass for a more mountainous region of Dantooine.

Maybe just a pipe dream of mine. 😉

I didn’t even think of that, but it would make a lot of sense for this series to show us Dantooine. Plus, from what I can tell the planet hasn’t really been featured at all in the new canon so they can technically do what ever they want with it.

New Pics Arrive from Cruachan ‘Star Wars: Andor’ Sets

“Last month we reported that Lucasfilm was moving the production of the series to Scotland, specifically to the Cruachan Reservoir, in the Scottish Highlands. Watchtowers and other very Star Wars-y buildings and vehicles are now covering the Cruachan landscape, meaning that filming there is either still happening or about to begin.”

<strong>Star Wars: Droids</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

There’s actually quite a few references to Droids in the prequel films;

FROM BOONTA TO BAOBAB: DROIDS AND THE STAR WARS PREQUELS
https://www.starwars.com/news/from-boonta-to-baobab-droids-and-the-star-wars-prequels

The Boonta Eve is the most blatant reference (by Lucas presumably), while the rest seems to mostly be the concept artists on the PT either intentionally or unintentionally borrowing ideas from the cartoon.

Now that Cad Bane has showed up it seems very likely to me that the Fett vs Cane story-arc might be repurposed for this series. I haven’t read up on the details of the unfinished episode(s) but I would assume they wouldn’t have to change too much lore-wise. Also we now pretty much have confirmation that it’s the Caminoans who sent the bounty hunters after Omega, so I’m thinking it’s very likely that Omega is force sensitive or at the very least that she has some attributes that they need for a potential uprising. The Stormtroopers vs Clone Troopers uprising from the original Battlefront II was a pretty cool idea, and Filoni does seem to like to borrow ideas from various Legends stories, so I’m hoping we’ll see something similar play out in this series at some point.

Despite everything I’ve said, there could be a really great benefit for things working out well for them in this episode. All of their procedures being successful might lead them to believe they could do the same thing to Crosshair and he will go back to “normal” after the procedure, just like Wrecker did. What would be great is if they somehow incapacitate Crosshair and remove his chip, but once he comes to, he is still loyal to the Empire.

That’s a really cool idea that would definitely shake up the Batch a fair bit, and it would be a pretty interesting exploration of the clones and their individuality and sense of free will.

Now I don’t kind the show keeping it simple and resolving things quickly, but I was a little surprised at how few consequences there was to Wrecker’s inhibitor chip moment. It worked, so I’m not really complaining, but I had expected a bit more. Though there’s still a lot they can do with it overall, and for all we know this could simply be a false sense of security, especially since we’re due another Crosshair episode soon. Overall I think this show has struck a great a balance between the classic episodic style of TV series while also having an overarching narrative.

I’m not quite sure what you mean. Isn’t that kinda the point of all types of storytelling? I mean punishing a character just for the hell of it would be bad, but if it served the plot then that’s simply the logical thing to do.

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ is ‘The Mandalorian’ “Season 2.5”; Mando Season 3 to Start Filming Late 2021/Early 2022
https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2021/06/boba-fett-wraps-obi-wan-kenobi-filming.html

“Collider has reported that The Book of Boba Fett has officially wrapped filming. The series is scheduled to debut this December on Disney Plus. It has been filmed on the same stage as The Mandalorian, and the first season is said to be a sort of stopgap between the second and third seasons of The Mandalorian, even referred to as “The Mandalorian Season 2.5″ by Collider‘s sources.”

My feelings on Mando season 2 have actually soured over the past few months. Part of that is maybe bitterness at how much Disney seems to be capitalising on its success, and that possibly taking away from a future for animated shows, but in general I’ve come to see the plot of season 2 as too contrived. It’s playing join the dots with its special character appearances, there are too many coincidences, the sidequest structure is a little formulaic, and when Grogu gets kidnapped it’s not actually as emotionally compelling as it should be. Season 2 has some of my favourite episodes - The Marshal, The Heiress and The Believer, and I still find those outstanding - but now I might prefer season 1.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing, but I do feel that a loot of these are problems that come with all types of storytelling after a certain amount of time. Plus, since modern series are less episodic and more like very long movies cut up into smaller pieces, I feel this way about most streaming series. Ironically The Mandalorian gets criticized by some for being too episodic, and compared to something like GOT it’s much more retro in this regard, though it does still have that single overarching narrative. I personally wouldn’t have minded if it was even more episodic, but I suppose that would have alienated a lot of the modern audience.

Also, as for the use of EU characters, as I’ve said previously in this tread, the real irony about it all is that it’s only SW geeks like us that actually know that they are EU characters in the first place, so it’s only us who can get thrilled or annoyed about their inclusion. Both my mother and uncle watch the show (both are in their sixties), and like most casual fans of their age they only remember the basic gist of the OT movies (and maybe a little of the PT), and they were both quite surprised when I mentioned that season 2 had several “guest-characters” from other SW shows.

Could season 2 have been just as good or better without these characters, sure. But to me personally it didn’t sour my enjoyment of the show, and I though they managed to integrate them all into Din’s character arc really well. I think both Bo Katan and Boba Fett were characters that made sense in Din’s journey to learn what it really means to be a mandalorian. Ahsoka was a bit more random, but it too had that episodic side-quest feel to it, and even acted as a bit of a mini-backdoor pilot of sorts.

The blurb:
“Visual effects work on The Mandalorian was completed in all five of ILM’s studios (San Francisco, Singapore, Vancouver, London, and Sydney) as well as a contingent of other vendors under ILM’s supervision. The season’s 8 episodes encompassed nearly 5,000 visual effects shots in addition to all of ILM’s real-time effects work done for use during principal photography. The effects team leveraged virtually every trick in the book, from miniatures and motion control to traditional puppeteering, advanced animatronics, spectacular special effects, and photo-real CG. Here’s a sampling of ILM’s post visual effects work done for the series that garnered ILM 13 Visual Effects Society Award nominations.”

Episode 6 Spoilers

I appreciate the chutzpah in bringing Trace and Rafa back despite the backlash (though I suppose this was probably in development before TCW S7 came out) - I do prefer it when Star Wars doesn’t go out of its way to acquiesce to internet moaning. Who could the cloaked hologram man be? Bail? Rex?

My immediate thought was Bail as well, but after thinking about it a bit I figured Ahsoka makes more sense as she already knows them (and since she’s the fan favourite that Filoni seems to incorporate into nearly everything he makes).

I admittedly got a tad annoyed at first when I recognized Trace and Rafa, but I think they worked really well in this episode. Trace especially seems to have matured a bit as a character, so I don’t really mind if they’ll both return in later episodes. There wasn’t really anything blatantly bad about the two characters, but their arc in TCW season 7 felt a bit too silly and pointless compared to the rest of the season, and the fact that it was the final season of the series and that there were several better unfinished story arcs most fans would rather see completed instead didn’t exactly help.

I think StarWarsExplained did a good summary of the question; https://youtu.be/38XI8YyekGA?t=155

It’s probably meant to imply that it’s the same rancor for more casual fans, but as for actual EU lore they’ll probably give some explanation of it at some point. This series does after all take place almost 25 years prior to ROTJ, so it’s reasonable to assume that Rancors could have too short a lifespan for Muchi and Pateesa to be the same creature. Though of course this is SW, so for all we know Rancors could live for centuries.

BTW, am I the only one who got a bit of a Kaiju film vibe from the fight between Muchi and the Brezak? There something about Muchi grabbing it by the tail and slamming it to the ground that reminded me of one of the old Godzilla or Gamera films, though I can’t remember which one.

I liked the smaller scale of the spaceport in Cut and Run, but I agree - certainly with ‘Replacements’. However, I don’t think it matters - judging from the trailers, we’ve got some very creative and interesting locations to come, from an ornate-looking palace-like building to a misty expansive star destroyer graveyard (which could be bracca?).

I agree, the first two episodes were great, and I have no real complaints about “Replacements” either, but I prefer bustling spaceports over barren moons, even if the energy-eating dragon was pretty neat.

I do look forward to seeing Zygerria as was teased in the trailer. Considering how much trouble Omega has gotten into already, and how the Bad Batch clearly will have to deal with the moral gray zones of being mercenaries as the show moves on, I’m really curious to see how they end up involved with the Zygerrian slavers.

It’s a shame it’s so quiet in this thread.

That’s probably a good thing. The more people have to say about a show it usually means there’s a lot that people disapprove of and need to argue about. Either that or there’s a lot of theorizing relating to lore and story developments, but we all more-or-less know how the lore is going to develop with this series, and unlike The Mandalorian with the mystery of Grogu’s past, or the future of the darksaber, etc. there’s not all that much to talk about beyond what Omega’s enhancements are.

On a completely unrelated note though, I was quite surprised by the depiction of Pantora. Maybe I remember some elements of TCW wrong, but based on the Pantorans we saw I always imagined it to be more of a Naboo-esque planet. Though I’m not complaining as I really love these seedier type of bazaar-like locations with lots of aliens and droids. I’m also glad to see the show turn more towards populated locales. The previous episodes have been really good, but the settings have been a tad underwhelming.

Clones, with two exceptions, grow at double the rate of other humans, by design to have a large batch of adults in 10 years.

Seems like they wouldn’t be able to grow very many clones in 4 years. Don’t they say in AOTC that the army was 200,000 strong with 1 million on the way?

For some reason I thought they’d established there were 5 years between AOTC and ROTS.

I just checked on Wookieepedia and Sifo Dyas was killed exactly 10 years before the start of the clone wars, so by the time of AOTC the oldest clones would be about ten years old, i.e. the equivalent of a human in his early twenties. So it makes sense that they’d have a bunch of teenagers almost ready to become soldiers at this time. And of course we see a lot of clone children in both AOTC and TCW, as well as in The Bad Batch.
