Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

A few pages back I mentioned that I got another copy of the SWHS from someone on Fanedit.org. Finally got around to checking it out and backtracking what I got.

Short version - see this post at FE

Presentation is better, as it has an actual menu screen and some other content on it. Video quality looks decent enough, but I don't know enough about the differences in the various copies floating around that I could ID one section over another as coming from which copy.

They're "limited" to how many times the same product can be re-boxed and re-sold. How many times over the years of VHS and LaserDisc were the films going to be available "FOR THE LAST TIME EVER!!!!"?

Yeah Luca$ and Disney sure have a lot in common LOL

so, did you think VHS and laserdisc were going to last forever?

do you think DVD's and bluray are going to last?

you might want think about the difference between marketing hyperbole,

and technical improvement...

nothings going to last, so what difference does it make whether they state that

or not?

as long as you can find it, in whatever format you want, its still around..

later

Ok, ok, I forgot to put "within each format". Jezuzfuckingchrist, some people are so nitpicky that they can't take a thought any further than what's presented to them.

Terminal case of cranial insertus analatus.

Guess i will just pretend this does not exist and sit back and watch the oot. Kind of like what i mostly do with that phantom plot movie and its sequels.

PLEASE! Just do the rest of us a favor and do it QUIETLY. You don't need to come on here every 10 minutes and re-prove how much you hate any SW that came about after 1983.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Disc art is easy. Ady made his red Death Star art. Someone else (forget who) made a green Purist Edition version from that.

I took that to the extreme. Ready?

I loaded up Ady's disc art and isolated the SW logo. Then I loaded up the Purist Edition art and isolated that text. Both of those were put on separate layers.

Now, I just used the Hue and Brightness/Contrast controls to create a whole array of colors, both with and without the Purist Edition text. I also copied the SW logo and color shifted it between gold and silver. The reason for isolating the logo in the first place was because it ended up getting color shifted along with the main disc art, so now I had the logo in blue, green, purple and so on. That wouldn't work, so I had to isolate it first to keep it in the gold/silver range.

So between gold and silver logos, Purist or non, and 9 different main colors, I've got 36 different combinations to label discs I give to people.

For the record, between mailing them to people I know on other forums and some local friends, I must have given out at least a dozen copies of SW:R since its release.

The "Imperial troops have entered the base" line could sound more urgent just be speeding it up (though making sure it's not pitched up). If it's just said faster, it will sound more like the person ran to the intercom to get off the warning.

That doesn't necessarily need to be sped up, but if a blaster sound or two could be added in between the line and the static...

"Imperial troops have entered the base! Imperial troops have --"

2 blaster shots

static

I think it's perfectly reasonable to suspect that 3PO had some hardware upgrades in between the films. Take into account how old he really is and how many times the poor fellow has been blown to pieces.

I never had a problem with 3P0's mid section being straight rods and wires in ROTJ either. If anything, it makes perfect sense. That was one of the main points he was severed at when he got blasted back on Cloud City, so it makes sense that it in putting him back together, it was easier to just rip out all the straggly wires and start fresh. Yeah, R2 patched him back together in the Falcon during the escape, but that was just that - a patch job. Luke would probably have gone back later to do some more work on him.

Another thing to think about; after watching your ESB Revisited comparison shots, I noticed that the Snowspeeders engines are not lit up. Not that they have to have any particular coloring, other than white, that may be something to play with as well (just a thought, being that it is kind of hard to fly when you're engines are off).

Modern airliner jet engines don't have flames coming out the back and they seem to work just fine.

Hmm... The Old Republic game?
Time

The closest I get to online gaming is the Deathmatch modes of the various Jedi Knight games. I can just log in, find a map with a bunch of people on it and kill opponents until I get bored. No extra money to pay, no commitment to come back at some scheduled time to continue where I left off, and I still have the game's single player mode for when I want to focus on what to do next. Deathmatch is also a good way to practice your various fighting skills for the regular game.

How to watch the Star Wars Saga?
Time

If you're just watching them yourself, or with friends who have already seen all the films, it doesn't really matter which trilogy you watch first.

If you're showing them to someone else who has been generally unexposed, then it becomes an issue. Personally, I think the theatrical order of OT first, then PT makes more sense. "I am your father" is more of a surprise, and some of the smaller bits of humor in the PT have more resonance in hindsight than they do chronologically ("Anakin, some day you'll be the death of me.")

Another thing to consider is the focus of the story. OT is essentially Luke's story, with Vader being a supporting character that we learn more about when we see the PT later on. Watching the PT first, the saga now becomes Anakin's story, with Luke being a secondary player.

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time

I made those chapter inserts, and if you want to PM me your email, I whipped up some alternate back text for 005's cover.

A note on the inserts though - FE didn't upload the other half of the double one. I designed it to be double sided and fold in half like the booklet you get with most DVD's. The outside cover(s) were just Ady's front and back re-sized and re-cropped to fit in 2850 x 2100.

You can get it from my own web site.

Oh, silly, Ziz. Everybody in today's culture knows that it's what's on the outside the matters. As long as you look good on the outside, you feel good on the inside. So, no. Nobody would mind that. In fact, they should be horrified if their parents didn't remove all traces of their clearly inferior selves.

You must be from California. Here in New York, we're glad that we look different from the person next to us.

Star Wars The Completely Last Edition ever

For everyone who thinks it's OK for Lucas to banish the OUT in favor of the SE's, let's take Puggo's examples to the extreme...

How would you feel if your parents decided that your nose wasn't the right shape or your chin was too square or your ears stuck out too far and told you - AGAINST YOUR WILL - that you would be getting cosmetic surgery to fix them in spite of the fact that you're happy with the way you look?

AND, that once the surgery was done, all the family pictures of you prior to that point would be collected up and destroyed, never to be seen again.

Wouldn't that piss you off?

Ok, since we're on the Wampa scene again, here's a shot for shot comparison I made between the GOUT and SE. They're not frame sync accurate, but enough to tell which shot is which.

Feel free to suggest your own shot lists for Ady's approval.

http://ziz.250free.com/Wampa-comparison.jpg

Minor detail - shot 7b is either a repeat of part of shot 7 or the end half of shot 7 after 7a was inserted...not sure which.
