Lensman - dvd preservation proposal (* unfinished project - lots of info *)

got the LD in the mail yesterday. It is in pristine condition and freakin gorgeous. I'll hopefully have my ld player tommorow and will check out the quality of the video and all tommorow night after work or tuesday. Unfortunately, my buddy got rid of his standalone dvd-recorder, so I guess we're going to try a different method of "conversion" (some kind of capture card or something that is the norm for this). Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm planning on capturing a laserdisc onto my hd using my ATI 9800Pro All In Wonder

Oh really? And here I am on newegg trying to find a DL burner for no other reason than to put Rad on it (although I'm sure it'll serve me well in the future). How much would it hurt the qualtity and how long do you think it would take?

I bought a NEC DL burner off newegg for about $36 a few months ago and love it.

Yes, it's finally complete and currently being posted to a.b.dvd. However, at 6.2 GB including PAR2's it's going to take 2 or 3 days with my modest upload speed. I'll let everyone know when it's finished and provide an NZB at that point.

I've also decided to go ahead with a single layer version--mainly because I don't have a DL burner. If there is interest in that, it will get posted as well.

Many thank yous for taking the time to convert it over to dvd and also upload it.
I already watched the sample and it looks really good. Thankfully I went out and bought some DL DVD+R's

Give me a couple of days, I think I know where I can find a copy on LD.

Hell yeah, I'll be more than happy to wait for the LD of it

Give me an idea of how much it will cost me once/if you locate it

I will be sharing this one back out for those on this forum that are interested in the movie.

Many thanks in advance,

Anyway, regarding availability, it will be posted to the newsgroups when completed. Probably alt.binaries.dvd. From there it's on its own.

From when starkiller posted that message until now there are about 4GiB of headers on alt.binaries.dvd that my newsreader needs to chew through before I could possibly find the upload and my ISP caps it at ~30KiB. Grr. If my math is correct that'll be about two days from now which runs afoul with the 30 day rention rate. Can anyone confirm/deny if it has indeed been posted and give me an approximate date so I can find it?

Or point me to a tool to help me help myself. my old stand by guba seems to have turned into a youtube knock-off and google feigns ignorance of the group.

thanks

Yeah I have a vhs of Rad that has the trailer for The Dirt Bike Kid. I haven't seen that movie in a long time

The original hd .ts file for "Rad" (1986) - INHD2 .ts 1080i was posted on usenet about 61 days ago. I haven't seen anything that Starkiller has uploaded, well at least yet. He is probably still working on it. Might want to send him a pm and find out some more info.

Help: looking for... Reckless (1984 - Aidan Quinn)
Time

I’ve been desperately trying to find this movie on laserdisc. This movie was never released on dvd. I have two copies of it on VHS (1 better quality than the other). I would really like to do a laserdisc --> dvd transfer of this movie. It is one of my favorite movies in my collection.

If you google it, you will probably get tons of links to Bryan Adams - Reckless (1984) which is not what I’m looking for.
I’ve looked on half.com, ebay, and googled used laserdisc stores. I’m hoping somebody may own a copy of it on laserdisc, know somebody who has it, or knows where to purchase it.

Here is some more info about the movie
UPC: 027616042163 (Laserdisc release)
Out of Print Date: 01/01/1999

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087983/
Rebellious footballer Johnny, falls for cheerleader Tracy. They come from opposite backrounds; she’s from a comfortable well off family, his is poor and broken. Tracy already has a boyfriend but he acts like a jerk, so Johnny has to win Tracy’s heart - something she seems reluctant to let him do.

Forgive my ignorance, but how you put a HD movie onto regular DVD? When you encode for DVD, won't it use MPEG2 and 480 lines of resolution? I would love to know how this is done, since I have some HD material I would like to get from my computer to my HDTV...thanks!

I've been trying to get a copy of the Rad laserdisc to do my own conversion. The last one that went up on ebay sold well over 200 bucks!

I wish I could have copied the HD source when it was on.

Anyway, I too would love to get a copy of this. I have no problems PIF.

Ive got a dual layer burner, and could easily PIF

Please, PM me if you've got it. Thanks! :-)

I think I saved all the rar and par files that I d/l from usenet for the HD version of RAD.
I've already got the .ts file on the hd in my HTPC, so I could possibly mail you the dvds that contain the .rar files. I will have to go home from work tonight and check to see if I still have those dvds.
