Which did you prefer, the SE or the 2004 DVD edition?
Time
I've reached the point where I don't care anymore. Much as I loved Star Wars as a little kid, the stuff just doesn't matter to me anymore when that much *crap* can surround it. I don't want to sift through 50 versions of a film (fanmade or official) to find a definitive version. I'll just have to live with my first impression of it as a kid.
Oh well.

What's the situation with Lucas saying he "forgot" to insert Temuerra Morrison's voice into the OT?

Nice one... he DID do that.

Though I have to say, I wish I was like you and didn't know about that change. It made me have a brain fart when I found out.

Green screen, CGI and the 'Minute' documentary from ROTS

"But "CGI crap" is so easy to overlook when watching a well-written, well-played, well-scored movie."

Well written in the Hollywood sense yes, if we're talking about Lord of the Rings. "Let's hunt some Orc"? How about "What does your heart tell you?" I swear I heard that in some other trilogy...

Well played... Sean Astin was far better than he ever was in those screwball shit-fests of the early 90's. In fact, I'll say pretty much most of the cast were dead on. But Orlando Bloom can't act.

Well scored... a lot of it's pretty damned good, but the track they used for the Two Towers trailer was *awful*. I thought it was stock trailer music, but no - it was on the soundtrack. BLECCCH...
Into the West was though, a particularly astonishing piece of music. Don't really like Annie Lennox's voice, but it's one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard.

Seriously, I don't have that much of a problem with Lord of the Rings, but the view that they are the greatest films of our time and that they circumvent the Hollywood template is sheer rubbish. Whether or not they were 'made like independant movies' doesn't stop the end result from being overly predictable and box-office friendly (at the expense of the movies themselves I think).
But anyway, lemme reiterate, they've got a lot going for 'em.

Who saw Lucas's speech at Peoples Choice Awards?

"Casablanca," "Gone With the Wind," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Titanic," a whole plethora of outstanding acadamy award winning movies."

Yeah, but only Lawrence of Arabia is any good.

I personally don't get the Vietnam references myself. Are we going to start saying "The Wedding Crashers" came at the right time because there's fighting in Iraq? Please. It's just a pussy way of denouncing the whole crappy war-in-Vietnam anyway; if you're going to speak out against war, just DO IT. None of this 'gah, the movie came at the right time...' and then leaving people to fill in the blanks (or just go 'duh').

I really don't get the guy.

Heh.

Well, films these days just blow chunks, it's all freakin' Massive armies and stupid looking digital characters. They're all guilty - take a good long hard look at Lord of the Rings (all 3 of them). The 1st movie had some whoppers in it, I tell you - like that shot on the mountain, the heroic fanfare plays and they walk past badly-composited mountains in the background and it looks like *dreck*.

Then there's The Two Towers, right off the bat you have that silly battle with the Balrog (looks ridiculous, I've never understood modern filmmaking fascination with 'digital doubles') & that pathetic shot of Legolas leaping up onto a horse (what the hell was with that? On the DVD they talked about it like it was really good, I thought they were joking but no - no punchline) and how's about the end battle? Gandalf at the top of a hill (if you look at the grass on the hill, you can see someone has been Clone-Stamping it in Photoshop). Nevermind the shot where he says 'the Battle for Helms Deep is over'. If you want bad compositing, look no further than that shot.

Return of the King... thinking... there was a lot of good stuff in this movie, like the first two, but my word some things were rotten. Like that boneheaded sequence where Legolas takes down the big elephant thing. Again - why do they think I want to watch someone render Legolas out of Poser and make him leap around like an idiot? This guy has absolutely nothing on Errol Flynn. To wit, Errol Flynn (digital or not) would walk onto screen and kick his arse.

I won't even bother with Star Wars, you've all hit the nail on the head already. But I thought I'd remind ye all - the problems aren't confined to one movie. This CGI crap is everywhere.

"In my opinion, now that you can just plop in a thousand other elements with a few mouse clicks and composite the whole thing without half trying"

Now *you're* the one who sounds kinda youngish. Have you ever tried doing it before?
If so, what software are you using, I'd personally love something that could make a dogfight that easy

Ok, CGI looks like crap, it's overblown poop - but it sure as shit isn't easy.

Idea: Wing Commander III & IV cut scene footage - plus other bits wanted.
Time
I'm really big on the idea of doing something like this, but I don't have either game. Ordered the IV DVD, turned out to be bunk, never got the thing GRUARGH.

Can anyone send me cutscenes from either game? Both'd be spectacular but anyway. There's probably no way we could do this over the internet, what with the filesizes concerned.... hmmm. Unfortunately, not a big fan of postage, living in Australia and everything.

Idea: 'Wing Commander 3 + 4' edit from the cutscenes...
Time

I’m big on the idea of making my own edit out of the cutscenes from these two games. Can anyone help me out on getting the things? I understand they’re pretty huge files of course, but all the same I’d like to give it a shot.

If this is a somehow taboo question to ask, then e-mail me at zebonka@gmail.com and we can talk about why it’s taboo. Or something.

Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game (1996, Parker) (* unfinished project *)
Time
Hey there -
if this winds up being a DVD that people can get off bittorrent, could an explanation for the game itself be included? Like I dunno, a picture of the board, maybe the rules or whatever... it seems a little erroneous to have the video without the game, is all. I'm sure people could make their own pieces and stuff.

What a ridiculous thread title. And it's interesting to see you throw words around like 'love' and 'hate' when you obviously don't appreciate their meanings... but no matter.

Look, the guy made a bunch of movies, big whoop if he stomped your childhood fantasies. It's not as though I saw exactly what I wanted to see when he made those Prequel movies... but really, be a bigger person and just make your own movie. Forget his 'crap', if you hate it so much.

some *very* bad acting

...It's cool. The bad acting is a recurring characteristic of Star Trek, no?....

...mpfff!...Sorry for that...

1). Nah don't be sorry!
2). No I LOVE bad acting! You don't know how much fun it is to play that Star Trek boardgame... you're supposed to be deathly scared of the mighty Klingon Warrior but he's really funny.
I might disseminate his parts from the video, put it in a small quicktime and post it somewhere for you guys, you have to see it.

Hey can't wait to see the Darth Vader one. I wish I'd known about this board game 10 years ago!

Err.... I know you guys might not be interested because it's Star Trek, but I've got a very similar board game to this where a Klingon steals the Enterprise. It's an hour long VHS of some *very* bad acting by one of the reocurring guests from the show. I can't emphasise how bad the acting is, other than by just going *very* again.

If there is interest, I'd put bits up of it.

I'm hanging out to see this Star Wars one though... so COOL! James Earl Jones and the tall guy, together again!
