Yeah, in my opinion (and most other people here too I think) that scene is completely unnecessary. But since this "thing" that doesn't even look like Jabba is in the 97 SE he will also be preserved! haha

I'm not sure on artwork but knowing DJ he probably wants to have some good looking artwork for the 97 SE's too.

And yes, they will be blu-rays, with menus and all.

I don't remember if the cinema DTS audio was synched to this version (TB) or some other version? Otherwise DJ will certainly try to synch it so we can have all possible options. He will probably include audio from the LD's too.

Don't worry darth_ender. I don't think anyone is gonna bash you for preferring a certain version. Everyone has different taste, but I too respect Harmy greatly for putting his heart and soul into working on his version.

Anyway, the rumor might have reached you guys that we're planning to release the 97 SE counterparts of each movie along with the restored originals.

The 97 SE's will be nicely upscaled using the TB version, and have the theatrical subs included. Since the colors are pretty screwed up in the 97 SE's, there will be a slight color correction involved but don't expect wonders. And there won't be any dirt cleanup since obviously it's taking way too long just to do that on the originals.

Here's how Mos Eisley will look in ANH, a few scenes we felt needed additional color correction. Before and after:

He's obviously a professional photographer, and photographers always pick out the best shots of hundreds, and I bet some of those must have been of the screen itself. I just guess he didn't post any shots of the screen because of copyright reasons. But maybe if somebody explains how valuable they would be to the community and restoration projects he could share them anonymously?

Harmy did color-time his version to an unfaded technicolor print, and here's that shot from his version:

And here it is from mine and DJ's version of the GOUT where we have balanced the whole movie:

Though I think the technicolor prints must have been made from a different interpositive than the GOUT. (Remember that the GOUT doesn't even have the theatrical subs.)

Ok, now DJ has posted the sample again. This time it looks correct, without the chroma shift.

And don't be too hard on DJ. He was just tired of this project being compared to Harmy's, when it's obviously very different since we're working from the opposite direction. That, and he's working hard on his job, and on this and 3 other projects on his free time.

If you know where you kept it, and haven't filled that harddrive completely with other stuff, there's a chance it's still there.

Google around for "restore deleted files" and you'll probably find some software. I don't remember the name of the software I used last time I accidently deleted something, or I would have told you.

EDIT: Found it now, it was "ParetoLogic Data Recovery".

What I forgot to tell you is that the preview includes all frame fixes we've done for that part, which is hundreds.

I can tell you a very visible one you'd see right away, just compare Vader's first appearance to the raw GOUT and look at his belt lights.

I think DJ is delaying the release a bit because he's hoping we'd find a way to make it look even more like the theatrical color timing. And he's also been very busy with our Star Wars project, and his job of course.

You'll get this one in time, so don't worry. I think DJ just wants to make 100% sure what you get is as good as it can possibly be.

Ok, a little update! DJ put some parts together today as a preview and uploaded it on myspleen.

Though he might remove it or update it later because it came out with a slight chroma shift again since this time it involved more render processes before encoding.

We're currently troubleshooting, but if you grab the preview it will still give you a good idea on the final look of our project.

Nice stuff, but since when did Obi-Wan have a yellow saber? :)

Here it seems rather than haloing that the color channels are misaligned or something. And of course the infamous blue stars in ROTJ.

I don't know if that's possible, but I know that when I compared methods for upscaling the GOUT, nnedi2_rpow2 using Spline64Resize was the one I found giving the smoothest result.

Might of course depend on the source material too.

Looks like you're right. I think the haloing is visible especially on the left side of the large moon.

Yeah, that scene has always looked dirty/grainy, so I think that's why the DVNR reacted and applied such heavy smearing.
