You are right, something like that would never be published today because current attitudes have changed. For the same reason, perhaps the 'American Way' slogan may also need some revision. I know that in America rigth now, patriotism is a big thing, and rightly so. In fact, I admire America's national pride and I think England could benefit from some of that. However, from an international marketing P.O.V, I understand the change. I agree the line should have been omitted altogether though instead of being watered down into a rather lame joke. Who know though - perhaps in context the line will work.

what have they done to the New Doctor Series? I have been watching the American version on the Sci Fi channel.
Being an American, you probably won't spot what I am talking about, because it is done to cater to America and make Americans like it better, but as an English person watching an English show, I cringe every time something is added or said to make the show more American friendly. British humour, British story telling, etc are different to American styles, and many nuances and subtle things are lost on the Americans (my wife is American and she is living proof of this - I do not think it is the same the other way round though because we (the english and the rest of the world) are much more exposed to American media. In fact, perhaps this is also a factor in why our TV and movies are beginning to seem 'more American'. For example, in Doctor Who, some of the British slang is changed and there are a lot more Americanisms added. There are a lot more American characters (I don't know if you have reached the Captain Jack episodes yet, but he is an American guy - I actually quite like his character so I am not grumbling about having an American actor on board, just pointing it out). The whole feel of the show is a lot more 'American' in an attempt to make it blend in more with American TV and not stand out as some obscure British thing that the general public won't want to see. You may also notice that the episodes are 45 minutes long (which means that, with commercials, they will be an hour in America). Doctor Who has ALWAYS been 30 minutes long, and the BBC does not show commercials so it was a perfect length, so this chnage has obviously been introduced to aid US sydication. However, I like longer episodes because you get more story, so again, I'm not complaining.

I'm having trouble explaining exactly what I mean, and as an American I imagine it will be very difficult for you to spot or understand exactly what I am saying, because the things I am talking about will not seem out of place to you because they are included to make the viewing experience less jarring for you, but just take my word for it - Doctor Who has been 'tweaked' to better suit America, and so have many, many other British things. I think we are slowly losing our identity. Oh well.

P.S That British Superman really does look like a dick. I'm surprised he's not drinking a cup of tea with his little finger sticking out.

P.P.S Warb, the second series of the New Doctor Who is starting here later this month, starring David Tennant as the new doctor.

That's really sad man. These guys (and girls) are trying to earn a living and be useful to society (ie, they are not begging or stealing, they are actually trying) and yet they are still ahving a totally crap life. No justice.

I think it's fair to say that Brazil beats England in the social/economical crapness stakes. As a country that is supposedly advanced and wealthy, England is on a downward spiral, but I know I don't really have anything real to complain about.

All I know is DO NOT go with Bulldog. They are absolute f**king shit, and if you have a problem (which you definitely will) getting them to help you out is like getting blood from a stone. Check out OFTEL (the government watchdog for the telecommunications industry). They have reviews and stuff about all the service providers, and you will see the Bulldog has a record number of complaints filed against them.

Yeah, fair enough. As a whole though, Great Britain is far from Great anymore.

BTW Ric, if a person was earning the brazillian minimum wage, would they still be able to survive? And at what level of comfort? What I mean is, are the salaries equivalent to the cost of living (and by living, I don't mean buying an X-Box). I was on the UK minimum wage at one point (when I finished uni), and I had to move in with my parents because I could not pay my rent and still afford to eat food and pay utility bills - I could afford the rent, but lights, running water, and food were not happening. However, I do not fall into any benefit categories and therefore could not get (and did not want) help from the government. Luckily my parents saved the day and now I have a proper job.

R2: Beep (The name 'Ben' never once came up when me and him were kicking it back in the day, and if it's the same guy then that's a pretty weak alias)

C3PO: I beg your pardon, sir, but do you know what he's talking about?

Luke: Well, I don't know anyone named Obi-Wan, but old Ben lives out beyond the dune sea. He's kind of a strange old hermit.

I was taught by a lady called miriam who was an animator on the the Thief, but I am ahving a tough time tracking her down, especially as I can't remeber her surname. Perhaps one of your contacts might remeber who she is if you mention her name.

BTW, I live very near to Camden and hang there regularly. If you gave me some addresses maybe I could go and take photos for you or something.

I see Han Solo is betaing Luke Skywalker 5 to 3.

You people are nuts. At the end of the day Han is just a smuggler with a blaster and a lot of luck, and some simple tricks and nonsense up his sleeve. No match for Luke, last of the jedi, personally trained by Obi Wan and Yoda, and the son of Anakin Skywalker.

*Remembers it 's just a fun game and calms down*

OK, rant over.

Yeah, but you need food to live and a roof over your head I find to be quite useful. Most people also need petrol. However, you can live without an X-Box.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to get on the property ladder in London.

England is a joke. This country is finished.

BTW, The last time I bought a computer game was for a super nintendo (a long time ago) and that was £49.99!!! In the mid nineties!!! I believe that a UMD movie (for PSP) costs about £20. Other than that, I can't really tell you how much games cost. I usually borrow PC games and I don't own a console.

The furthest East I have been is Turkey (which borders Iraq). It had good points and bad points, so all in all I enjoyed my trip as an experience but can't really say I like Turkey.

I visited the czech republic when it just shaking off communism but still adjusting, and it was very odd, and a bit scary, and I also visited Slovenia (part of former yugoslavia) during the war, and that was pretty f**ked up. Ithink seeing a planefight would be kinda cool though

Come to think of it, I am not sure if Slovenia even exists anymore.

There will be subtle deviations from tradition. The slogan "Truth, Justice and the American Way" won't be heard; instead, newspaper editor Perry White says "Truth, justice, all that stuff." It's a nuance that could help bolster international appeal, at a time when the image of the United States is not exactly at its zenith.

I know I'm going to get blasted, but I'm am American and changing to line to "Truth, justice and that stuff" is political correct bs. Superman may not have said the line in Superman II, but he did say it in Superman I. Superman is an American so he should fight for the American Way(and I don't mean Bushes way), and we as truth and Justice. It is a classic line and should not be altered just try to avoid offending nonAmericans. If they get offended, too bad. The movie should make the studios more than enough $$$ in US alone without worrying about pandering to the rest of the world. And if your worring about offending people, what about the Americans you'll be offending by taking out the line?
I'm not offended by the line(and I don't think any Englishman would be), I just think it's cheesy as hell, and will get a lot of groans (even from Americans, especially young Americans). You have to remember that WB are trying to make money here, and the movie has to appeal internationally, and to a broad age range. I do see your point though Warb, and it annoys the s**t out of me when classic English TV shows and movies etc are reworked for the American market (and believe me, it happens a lot. The new Doctor Who series suffers from this).

Yeah Shim, you are right, there were grown up elements of the PT, and I realsie that every point I raise about the OT being better than the PT can always be countered. Maybe I am just not good enough with words to explain it, or maybe it just can't be explained, but there was something fundamental in the OT that just elevated it above the prequels, and in fact above many (perhaps most) other movies, especially movies that most would look at as 'silly sci-fi'.

I don't think anybody could have ever made new Star Wars films that everybody was happy with everything about, but whatver the lovers and haters of each trolgy say, there is something ineffable about the OT that made it great, while the PT is merely entertaining (and in some places not even that).

You are probably thinking of Lynnard Skynnard. They were a southern rock band, most famous for the song 'Sweet Home Alabama'. The story of their death is the stuff of legends. Even today people discuss such pressing matters as whether the lead singer was killed by the crash itself or was already dead on impact from the VCR that became dislodged as the plane went down and crushed his skull. This whole album is about their rise and untimely fall (no pun intended) and is well worth checking out: Southern Rock Opera, by Drive By Truckers
