Try to take it easy with the Lucas bashing.

While we're on the subject of pointing out things people might try not to do, how about not being so trigger-happy on the creation of new threads? I've seen about 20 threads pop up in a matter of days that are all talking about the same thing (namely the non-anamorphic affair). Most of the posts contained in these threads could easily fit in an existing thread. I'm not trying to be a moany old rule-maker, but I felt someone should say it. There were also 2 threads created today to mark the 29th anniversary of Star Wars - Check before you make a thread.

It utterly cheapens Star Wars, making it the worst kind of sci-fi swill.
You have perfectly summed up my thoughts on the matter. Thank You. Star Wars was once a great, mystical, magical tale, more akin to LOTR than, for example, Star Trek. Now it's just generic sci-fi geek crap.

The Da Vinci Code Movie

From IMDB:

Sri Lanka First Country To Ban 'Da Vinci Code'

Sri Lanka is the latest country to cross swords with Sony Films over The Da Vinci Code. According to the state-run Colombo Daily News, President Mahinda Rajapakse has banned the film following an appeal by the Catholic Bishops Conference. While calls for the film to be banned in such Asian countries as the Philippines, Thailand and India have arisen in recent weeks, Sri Lanka appears to be the first to issue an order halting the screening of the film. The bishops had charged that The Da Vinci Code was the product of a "totally perverted mind and ... adversely affects the most sacred beliefs of our people."

Also the fact that he had the whole square jaw and big build thing going on (his build was just right - not over-the-top Schwarzenneger big, but big enough to be Superman). In fact, he was so big that it was hard to believe him as a weedy geek when he was in his Clark Kent gear.

Now, I'm not too hot on the continuity of the Superman comics, but according to the Dean Cain TV show (which is probably not the best source) and an old comic I had as a kid that retold his origin, Clark's mother made the suit for him (she noticed that fabric near to his body did not get damaged). Is this the official DC line? If so, how the hell did Clark's mom mould a rubber suit for him? (I asked myself the same question when watching Spiderman, expecially given the fact that you saw Peter's first attempt at making a costume during the wrestling match).

I imagine the pound didn't have the same value that it has today.
I think it's always been a bit stronger than the dollar (at least in my lifetime), but it's irrelevant - to an English person, 50 pounds is 50 pounds, not 100 dollars. What I mean by that is, it wouldn't take me as long to earn 50 pounds as it would for an american to earn 100 bucks. in the mind of a English person, 50 pounds is probably of roughly the same value as 50 bucks is to an american. It's only when you travel or start buying from american websites etc and compare exchange rates that this sort of stuff comes into play. Make sense?

An example - I now live in America. I see a game selling for 50 dollars and I think to myself 'shit, that game costs 50 bucks!! That would take me X hours to earn'. I don't think 'hey, that game's only 25 pounds - sweet'.

But whatever the case, 50 pounds in the late 80s was a shitload of money, especially to a kid, and to me today it's still a lot of money. Granted, a video game can give you hours, days, weeks, even months of entertainment, so maybe it's not so bad.

I'm having the same trouble with record companies. I understand why they have to do it, but it's bloody frustrating. There's so much talent out there going to waste.

And so many non-talents who don't deserve the fame/success/adoration showered upon them. Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears come to mind here.
Exactly. Same deal in the film industry - are these producers and script writers on crack?

What I am really protesting is that Lucas is attempting to destroy the originals by presenting them in an obsolete format in order to lean favor for his mutilated vison. Personally, I draw the line between liking and hating the SE's with Jedi Rocks. It sounds like Tina Turner on crystalmeth.
Same here. I've stated before that I'm not actually too bothered about having Star Wars as letterbox only, but it's the principle here. It's spiteful. These movies deserve respect.

There was a time when I was worried about making Jedi Knight before the switch - now I'm on my way to master.

And while we're on the subject, do we really need to ditch the post count anymore? I mean, is it a problem issue anymore?

If you want these movies on DVD, you're going to have to stop doing dickheaded things like hoping for another human being TO DIE.

Be constructive, not destructive. You're doing everyone at this site a disservice by cheering for a fatality.
So true. Wise up people.
