The Things We Hate And Love Thread .

Personally, I love how the mind never forgets. I've seen a lot of girls who, when a relationship ends, tear up every shred of evidence that would ever place them with that guy. I just can't understand that. The past is what prepares us for the future. And memories, as bad as they might seem at the time, will provide insight, or even become cherished or humorous as time goes by. We wouldn't be the people today if not for the scars we earned struggling through life. Isn't it exciting?
I agree. I wouldn't change a single thing about my past, even the bad stuff.

Yeah I have a London accent. Have you seen Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels? The original Italian Job (or any early Michael Caine film)? That's pretty much how I sound.

It's kinda late so I'll share my ND experiences with you in detail another time, but suffice to say it's kinda frustrating being here sometimes. Some people are nice though and like to hear me talk, so they're not all bad. But noone is really seems to know anything about my country or it's people, and considering it's one of the most powerful and influencial nations, and also USA's main partner in the Iraq war, I find that surprising. I may as well come from Timbuctoo for all they know.

I think I will write a big essay about my experiences as an Englishman in ND.

I've only seen the actual movie once so I don't remember, but if you watch it and they are walking down an open air corridor/wing or something at hogwarts, that's the one. You know how they added windows to cloud city in ESB, it's kinda like that (except this was planned during shooting so there were blue screens beyond the windows and open roof).

Meanwhile FIFA fans are allowed to mock Ibrahim Salou with total impunity. What a crock of shit.
I must step in here. While I can't speak for the rest of Europe, I can speak for England, and I have to ask you to not tar us with that brush. I have been all over America and with the exceptions of the major cities (especially NY and LA) nowhere compares to my home, London, for racial equalilty and acceptance. London is well known as being one of, if not THE, most ethnically diverse places in teh World. We have the largest Mosque outside of the Eastern World. I had a Mosque at the end of my street. My best friend growing up was black and I didn't even notice. My own Grandmother is an immigrant from Italy. I am just as angered by monkey comments like the ones you mention as you are, but let me tell you, the American Midwest (where I am currently staying) is FAR less tolerant of different races than England. I can't tell you how many time I've heard the 'N' word since I've been here. It's actually quite shocking. Even I am treated strangely, and I'm White (but not a good ol' USA boy and therefore 'different'). And on top of that, the status of the female in these parts is about 50 years behind what I am used to. And you can forget about being gay here too.

Look, we all know Chrisdo is a dick, but can we please stop all this German bashing and generalising about Europeans? I don't even really consider England to be part of Europe, but I'm getting a bit offended here.

I voted for real sets with CG enhancements.

When I worked at Framestore I was hanging with one of the digital matte painters while he was working on a scene from Harry Potter 3. The scene consisted of Harry walking down an open air corridor. The corridor (floor, walls, bricks, etc) were real and the actor was really walking down it. The artist then painted a digital night sky and moon (BTW, he still used real photographic elements, but they were enhanced to look nicer, and there was some paintwork too). The finished scene looked great.

BTW, a TV on in a quiet room with no sound coming from it is unpleasent to me. People always ask my why I turn off TV's that aren't even playing anything and when I tell them they look act like 'm pretending to hear a noise.
I get that too. I can be in another part of the house and know that there is a TV on. It's like I can sense it or something. And I never leave my TV on standby - I always switch it 100% off.

Did you see the game Dayv?

From foxsports.com:

For the Americans to advance, they must defeat Ghana in their last game. In addition to beating Ghana, the U.S. team needs one of these scenarios to take place:

1. Italy defeats the Czech Republic.

2. Italy ties the Czech Republic 0-0 or 1-1 AND the United States beats Ghana by at least four goals.

3. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by five or more goals.

4. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by four goals AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Czechs do in their tie.

5. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is six or more.

6. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Italians do in their loss.

7. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores exactly two more goals than the Italians do in their loss AND the Americans win a drawing of lots by FIFA.
