Selectable crawl on new DVD? Or just the old one?

Not true. My brother is Assistant Manager at Blockbuster and I have seen many films days and sometimes weeks before the release date thanks to him. I have no reason to doubt these are legit and I am pretty content with the image quality.

And apart from the dodgy photoshop recreation poster covers, the rest of the packaging looks pretty nice (i.e. back cover and inserts)

SUPERMAN RETURNS REVIEW
Time
I actually liked SR....

But it's clear I'm in the minority (and I do agree with many of the grumbles people have about the film - I just see past them). It probably helps that I wasn't a big Superman comic fan before I saw the film (although it has inspired me to seek out and read some Superman graphic novels, so that's a good thing, right?)

The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
I hate that everybody treats my Father-In-Law like he is some kind of hard-working hero when it is obvious he is a workaholic who does everything he can to avoid spending time with his family and facing up to his emotions.

So you like fishing? Good for you, but don't make out you are some kind of heroic hunter-gatherer and we should be grateful to you for 'putting food on the table'. In my opinion hanging out on a boat in the sunshine for 8 hours then coming home and handing your wife some fish so she can cook them does not earn you my respect. Maybe if you could break free of your small-town social conditioning and cook the fish yourself then go and do some laundry, then spend some time with your lonely wife instead of running off to help fix your brother's car or bail some hay or whatever other excuse you've found to escape from your life, maybe then I would respect you.

Yet I am the only one who sees this. To everyone else he's a good 'ol hardworking 'real man'.

Movie production updates for Terminator 4 And Star Trek XI

They are also getting too old IMO. The last episode of TNG made a point of showing that Data does not age, yet Brent Spiner continues to develop wrinkles, etc - although that's a moot point because they killed Data in Nemesis. Jonathan Frakes is getting on a bit too (I met him during post production of Thunderbird and he seemed kinda hunched and was limping - great guy though, one of the nicest movie people I've met). The only member of the cast who seems to never age is Patrick Stewart - I saw him do a one man version of a christmas carol in London on Christmas eve and he looked thhe same as he always does (the show was great too, btw).

Having said all that, I would still really like to see another TNG movie, but that's just me.

EDIT: I agree with everyone about the Terminator series though: 3 never happened and we sure as hell don't want (or need) a 4th.

Ducks in Star Wars?

Yes, it is possible I suppose.

I'm surprised that the retcon people at Lucasfilm haven't tried to somehow explain Hell or Falcon now that you mention it. But like Lord3vil said, none of these things really bother me - I can accept that the scriptwriters simply slipped up when they had Han say 'Hell' and Millenium Falcon sounds cool so whatever...but a Fifties diner on Coruscant?! Come On!! Where were the bad idea police when that one was conceieved?

Ducks in Star Wars?

Yeah, and they don't even need to take bathroom breaks.

Seriously though, this Duck entry on databank is nothing more than another Lucasfilm retcon attempt to try and explain a scriptwriting mistake in TPM when the guy says 'we're sitting ducks'. I know they were mentioned in the original novel but I think we can excuse Alan Dean Foster for making that mistake back in 1976 before Star Wars took off.

But as I said last time this was bought up: Thanks to the prequels there's a Fifties diner in the Star Wars universe, so why not ducks?

My Mum was born in '56 and my Dad in '57, and I'm 5 years older than Gaffer.

Saying that though, by the time my parents were my age I was already approaching my first birthday, so I think they started kinda early. I couldn't imagine having a one year old kid at this point in my life. There's times when I can't even believe I'm married to tell you the truth.

At the other end of the spectrum, a few years ago I went to my best friend's Dad's funeral. My friend is a few months younger than me but his Dad was almost 70 when he died. RIP Rolis, you are missed.

General Batman Talk
Time
I hear ya. All I have is the original releases of Batman and Batman Returns (in the shoddy cardboard Warner Bros cases). If I was in a 'more favorable' financial postion I would like to get those movies in a decent presentation with some extras etc.

And I still stand by my belief that the Burton films should not be lumped in with the Schumacher films, even though they are supposedly part of the same continuity (although apart from Alfer and Commisoner Gordon you would never, ever know it).
