Yeah, there’s nothing inherently wrong with those shots being red (I actually really liked that FXitinpost made that decision to make the color much more red. I only noticed it after taking a crack at color grading everything.), but I just wanted to make everything as seamless as I could in my edit. The next part after Vader and Obi-Wan cross their blades is non-reimagined footage (the part where Han and Chewie approach the hangar), and the walls are their normal, greyish color. I tried both options (one where the Reimagined shots retained their reddish color, and one where they don’t), and I found it to be more satisfying and seamless to tone down the (very apparent) redness. A small price to pay for salvation. (Are we allowed to reference non-Star Wars material here? lol.)
I even color graded Hal’s footage (specifically the footage surrounding the fight) as to not sacrifice too much color in the Reimagined shots. Kinda had to strike as much of a balance as I could.
I did also color grade more of Hal’s footage; in all of the shots during and after the Padme’s Funderal song (up to the Falcon escaping), I desaturated and toned down the color and added some vignetting to the shots, since at that part of the Reimagined fight the colors are supposed to be desaturated. Hal’s footage was super colorful compared to the colors in the ending of SC 38 Reimagined.
One thing, but Obi-Wan’s skin is grey-ish in specific parts in the SC38 duel. There are also the “flashing” blue-ish lights (which look out-of-place) during the entrances of Vader and Obi-Wan respectively in the aforementioned duel.
Yeah, there was no way I’d be able to edit out those flashing blue lights unless if I was doing some frame-by-frame photoshop or something of the sorts. I toyed with the idea, but realized I’d be biting off more than I could chew. I do agree that it looks out of place, but you gotta work with what you got. I know some people edit those particular shots out, but if you’re going to use SC 38 Reimagined, you really need those shots for consistency; Obi-Wan puts up his hood in one of the shots, and the other one is Obi-Wan walking up to his starting posistion in the duel. If you were to cut out the former, Obi-Wan would suddenly have his hood up. If you were to cut out the latter and replace it with his approach in the non-reimagined/original version of the duel, then you would be stuck with the inconsistency of the wall being different behind him in the next shot he’s in.
As for the grey-ish skin, I know what you mean and know what shots you’re referring to. The biggest offenders are when he’s thrown into a wall by Vader, and, subsequently, when he gets up. The shots there were very red, and I’m assuming it’s because FXitinpost wanted to drive home the fact that Vader is winning. Because the shots were very red, that meant having to sacrifice a lot of the redness in Obi-Wan’s skin color. Now, I could end up fixing this by coloring the specific areas where there’s exposed skin, but I’m a novice and still have much to learn. But for now, that’s as good as I’m going to get it.
v1.1.1 is finished and availble! Here are the changes:
-Replaced the Rogue One HDR footage with 4K footage from YouTube, since I couldn’t color correct the HDR footage to my liking. (It was brought to my attention that Vader’s lightsaber looked orange in v1.1)
–I color graded the interior shots of the Tantive IV in the Rogue One intro to match Hal9000’s color grading.
-I increased the film grain for the Rogue One intro and for SC 38 Reimagined
-After Obi-Wan says, “Come here, my little friend. Don’t be afraid.”, there was a pop noise while R2 was responding to him. I swapped the audio in that specific part with audio from a different copy of ANH. Apparently this popping noise wasn’t my fault, as it was present in Hal9000’s Custom SE before I did any editing.
-There was small pop noise right before Vader’s line, “Her resistance to the mind probe is considerable[…].” I fixed this as well.
-Fixed a couple of shots where Vader and Obi-Wan’s lightsabers were overly bright.
-For v1.1, I had an issue with the meeting room audio since in v1, the audio was desynced. I ended up replacing Hal9000’s audio with audio from a different source, just to make things sync up. This was unfortunate, because Hal had added a low, bass-y sound while Motti is being choked, and this force-choke sound is consistent with the rest of the franchise. In v1.1.1, I was able to put Hal’s audio back in.
Do you also plan on replacing the opening shot of Tatooine in A New Hope with the one from The Mandalorian?

Dude! This edit sounds awesome! I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this one before! I’ll have to give it a watch because it sound’s like something that would be perfect to work with!
Right now though, my plan is to do my 4K77 + SC 38 Reimagined edit (where I’ll be giving SC 38 Reimagined a 1977 vibe.) after finalizing v1.1.1.
But I definitely will do a V3 with that edit you linked!
Just curious, is your copy of SC 38 downloaded YouTube or do you have the uncompressed file? Since I support FXItInPost on Patreon I have a high quality copy for my own edit.
I used the uncompressed 4K copy from their Patreon. 😁
So obviously the 4K copy of my edit would be the best experience.
And I wasn’t able to get the link out when I said I would because I suddenly got busy with my current job, and I noticed I turned the film grain a bit too high in the SC 38 Reimagined scene in my edit, so I had to go back and edit that a bit. But now I’m good, and I have to watch my edit all the way through again to make sure there aren’t any errors. I hope to have links out within 2 days, 3 days tops. Also, I did a reaction to S2E1 of The Mandalorian, so that’ll be out on YouTube soon if anyone is interested. ☺
And one last thing… there won’t be a 1440p copy of my edit because Davinci Resolve doesn’t have that option, and the 4K copy will be h.265 because the h.264 version had a lot of artificats. (I looked it up, and apparently the artifacts are from the video being super duper sharp.)
I also noticed that the film was kinda compressed, have you fixed that?
Did you download it or stream it? If you streamed it, that would be why. YouTube/Google players compress the heck out of videos.
I know a lot of people prefer to stream fan edits, so now I will be looking into doing my best to making the streaming experience as high quality as possible.
Sorry everyone. I had to take a break. I’m rendering v1.1.1 right now. (V1.1.1 is not a typo.) I fixed a few things that were present in v1.1. I replaced the Rogue One Vader hallway HDR footage with a 4k clip I got from YouTube because someone brought to my attention that Vader’s lightsaber was orange rather than red. I made this replacement since it was nigh impossible for me to match the colors in the HDR footage to the original version’s colors. I also fixed a couple issues in a shot in SC38 Reimagined where Vader’s and Obi-Wan’s sabers were overly bright, and one (albiet unnoticiable) coloring problem that personally bothered me.
I also increased the film grain in SC38 Reimagined.
The last thing I fixed were a couple of popping noises I didn’t notice when making V1.1.

So here’s what I did for v1.1:
In regards to SC 38 Reimagined
-I sharpened the entire thing,
-Color graded it (to the best of my novice ability) to fit the color scheme of Hal 9000’s edit,
-Added film grain
-Made it widescreen / added black bars to the top and bottom to match the rest of the movie.
For the other changes and fixes:
-I replaced the old Rogue One intro with a 4K copy (It was HDR so it was really washed-out looking, so I had to color correct it)
-Reverted the Han shoots Greedo scene and the Deathstar explosion to the original versions in Hal9000’s edit
-Fixed all of the audio problems.
I have various versions I’ll be rendering and uploading. Right now I have a 1080p MP4 h.264 copy uploaded, and I’ll be uploading a 1080p MP4 h.265 copy, and 1440p and 4K MP4 copies (both h.264 and h.265 for each.) If you’re not familiar with codecs, h.265 is a video codec that is superior to h.264 because the video compression is much better where it retains more quality, the file size is smaller, and streaming is faster. However, not all players can play h.265 files (Many current generation video players can, but not everyone has one), so that’s why I’ll have h.264 as an option. Also, If you are able to play 4K video and you want to download my edit, I highly recommend watching it that way. But in the meantime, the 1080p copy will be available for you to watch.

So things are coming along great with V2. Davinci Resolve has been somewhat of a pain because I’m not an expert at it, but I’m loving the features it comes with! Like the fact you can make modern footage look old! I made sc 38 reimagined look like it was presented on film by changing the color, adding film grain, dirt, and scratches on it. It looks amazing! (Also, I’m experimenting with changing the score. I can’t for it all to come together!)
About v1.1: I’m almost done with it, so I’ll be sending out links to that very soon!

4K97 is a 4K resolution scan of a 97SE 35mm print of A New Hope by the 4K77 team.

I looked it up and saw some info on it here on OT, but I didn’t see any info on whether or not it’s finished and info on where to download it. Is it finished and released?
SC38 Reimagined needs to have grain added to it so that it blends better with 4K77 footage. Also, there’s a 4K97 that would blend better with 4K77 than the SE 4K Blu-Ray.
Of course. I had that in mind when going into the edit. 🙂 (I have the DNR version, so it won’t be a huge amount of grain that I’ll need to apply to SC38 reimagined, but there still is some grain present in the DNR version.)
Is the 4K97 another project by Team Negative One or fans similar to 4K77/4K80/4K83, or is it just a 4K version of A New Hope from '97? I would love to hear more about this version of ANH.

Thank you to those who gave feedback! I’m currently working on the new version, and the basis of it will be 4K77. I won’t be using any footage from Adywan since it’s low quality and his HD version isn’t out yet, and I’ll be editing in the “good” special edition changes that Hal9000 chose.
