I really wouldn't mind the updated singer via CGI if only they kept "Lapti Nek."  To be honest, I used to look forward to that musical number when I watched ROTJ.  Now I just can't stand it and skip right through it.

By the way... I recently found out that there were two versions of "Lapti Nek" in the films.  I don't know when the other one was used... but this is the one that I grew up with on my 1995 VHS set...

DVD Covers by What Plans?
Time

So after posting these, I was determined to see what the covers would look like with the traditional logo.  Rather than starting from scratch, I looked through my old USB drives.  I didn't find the exact file, but I did find a basic layer of the ROTJ cover.  It had the artwork with the red color and the writing was a seperate layer.  So it was easy enough to match the blue and purple colors to the JPEGS and I switched the writing to English.  So now I have files in both English and Aurebesh if anyone is interested.

I don't know why that dark rectangle appears toward the bottom left of the DVD covers on the last picture... or why the font on the side of the boxes appears to darken toward the bottom.  Those must have been added by the program I used to display the cases.

And that's my digital signature on the back covers too... in case anyone was curious what that was :P

DVD Covers by What Plans?
Time

Hello all.  I noticed this section of the forums a few days ago and tried to find the artwork to my Star Wars DVD covers from a few years ago.  Sure enough, they were still on my old computer.  Everytime I pull out Adywan's Revisited (I used to keep the actual movie DVDs in there, but have since reserved them for the Revisited series) I get comments on how cool they look, so I thought I would share.

These were the first DVD covers I ever made.  As you can see, they are in Aurebesh and I only made covers for the original trilogy.  I lost the Photoshop files and only have the JPEGS, so I wouldn't be making any for the PT.  I really prefer a simplistic approach to DVD designs and, although I do love some of the other poster-like approaches, those are just too busy for me.

I would be more than happy to email you the artwork for printing if anyone is interested.  At the very least, I hope you guys like the pictures :)

Princess Leia's Hologram
Time

Hello everyone.  I'm relatively new, and joined primarily to thank Adywan for his great work on "Revisited," but I've recently been reading up about a lot of other popular threads on these forums.  I'm especially interested in a lot of the Star Wars preservation material.  I had no idea about the Save Star Wars site or any of the original footage being replaced by the SE.  Doubleoffive's slides of the screen comparisons were especially interesting!

But that led me to notice something.  I grew up with VHS tapes of the original movies.  The ones with the Vader/Stormtrooper/Yoda faces on the cover (And they also had an interview with George Lucas before each movie).  And then the Special Editions came out when I was in 5th grade.  I was confused by some of the changes, but really loved the movies for the most part.  So I bought the DVDs as soon as they were released and, for all those years, the DVD versions had become my definitive editions.  That's probably why I love Adywan's version so much.  It takes out the confusing elements but keeps the really good ones.

But now that I have been looking back at all of the screen comparisons, I noticed that Princess Leia's hologram seems to look a LOT better in the original version.  It's not all blue with a high contrast.  It looks more like what I would imagine a light projection to look like.  So that leads me to my question... does anyone know where I can find a high quality version of the hologram scene as it appeared in the original movie?  I am actually surprised that Adywan didn't revert the colors back to the original.  But I suppose it was to keep continuity between holograms of ESB and ROTJ too.

I know this was a long post to ask such a small question, but I just wanted to give you guys major kudos for putting in your time and dedication to let people know about the true history of the films.  Although I don't see myself preferring them over the SEs anytime soon, it's definitely fascinating to see all of the previous versions that Star Wars went through.

Star Wars Redemption: Episode 1 (Rendering final cut!) (* lost project *)

I will agree with rpvee that it is slightly sudden going from the star destroyer back to Obi Wan's hut. Perhaps a fade is needed to make it clearer that ALL of what we just saw was a flashback.

Also I've just had a thought of a possibly neat way you could transition back, but it would involve changing what you've done with this scene completely

When r2 stars showing the hologram, have the flashback start with everyone rushing around as the blockade runner is about to get docked with (.i.e. the first interior shot of the movies) where we see Threepio and r2 talking. The troopers board and the film carries on as it normally does until we see r2 with princess leia. At this point you transition back - possibly dissolving from the real princess leia to a closeup of the just formed leia hologram. You zoom out from the hologram and it plays as normal.

You of course lose vader talking to leia and seeing the droids escaping a second time, but we already know they escape don't we? :-p

I can't decide which version I would prefer. Guess I'd have to see both.

Excellent idea!  But here's a slight twist.  Instead of having the transition from Leia to hologram, why not have it the other way?  Have the scene in Ben's hut, show the Leia hologram and then transition to her finishing the hologram up with R2.  Then the video can go in one of two directions... with the boarding party or Leia's encounter with Vader (but it would lose the boarding party scene).  Once the droids escape, it would make a nice transition to Tattooine and Ben's house.

Well, it's not that the graphics are "bad" but they just don't look like they have a purpose.  It almost looks like a cheap movie set that needed to have a lot of blinking lights and moving displays.  I think that the monitors would have looked better even if they only had a static image on them.

I just made this little mockup in Photoshop.  It looks terrible cuz it only took like 5 minutes but it gives you an idea of what I think would make a good display: the falcon outline.  I added the red bar as kind of a scan bar.  But even if it was a static image, it would make sense that the empire would scan the vessel upon entry into the DS.

The circle monitor and the monitor which just types up numbers seem kind of useless.

I guess you're just a lot better than you think, because those X-wing displays look so clean and crisp!  No pixelation whatsoever.  Whereas the TIE display is made of really blocky red squares.

And by the control room, I meant the room overlooking the Falcon where the droids hide.  Those monitors look awful.  Especally the one with the cicular "scan-like" motion.  Even in the original films, it was painful to watch.  But then again, I was born more than 10 years after SW came out, so I'm sure it has sentimental value to those who grew up with it.

By the way, Ady... the reason I got the DVD-9 was to watch the movie with a friend who has never seen it.  Not surprisingly, she said she would probably never watch the non-Revisited version again.  Just thought I'd let you know :)

Oh, and she said her favorite change was the coloring of all the lasers (ship and gun).  My favorite change is "They'll be no escape this time."

One thing that we were curious about though... how come you changed the targeting display in the X-wings but not the tie fighters?  It looks like the Rebel's targeting display is decades ahead of the Empire's because the latter is so outdated and pixelated.  Same with the monitors in the death star control room versus the monitors on Yavin.  The Rebel Alliance looks like they got all the state-of-the-art tech. :P

So I finally got to watch the DVD-9 version.  I don't know if it was just my computer or what... but I noticed several changes to the audio that I didn't expect.  Can anyone tell me if those were intentional?

I noticed it twice.  In both instances, the dramatic music seems to have decreased in volume, and it's almost difficult to hear.  I played the SL DVD afterward to make sure it wasn't my imagination, and there's definitely a difference.

1. When Vader throws Capt. Antilles after choking him.

2. When the door to Leia's cell closes after she sees the mind probe.

I also like the idea of STAR WARS with the titles and not the numeral, like Golden Idol said.  Lots of good options.

I guess I just don't like seeing Episode IV, V and VI written in the text.  I first saw SW in like 4th grade and those numbers confused the heck out of me until Episode I came out 2 years later.  And considering how those turned out... I still don't like those numerals.

I think a lot of us on here would agree that changing the Roman numerals from IV, V and VI to I, II, and III would also be acceptable.  As far as I'm concerned... I've owned the prequels on DVD for several years and only saw episodes II and III about 2 times each.  They're almost completely worthless.  Considering a lot of us will prolly seldom watch them, having the original trilogy be "a set of their own" would be an excellent idea... whether by changing the numerals OR replacing "STAR WARS" with the other logos.  Either would give Adywayn's trilogy a definitive uniqueness as a whole (and excellent) piece of work.

Maybe someone can explain to me why they use JDownloader?  I find it to be sooo inefficient.  And why do I have to wait 30 minutes between each block of 100 MB?  I never understood that.  It makes d/l Adywan's DVD-9 version a very very long wait.  It's been going for 2 days and is only now past the halfway point.

I think all of you guys need to take a chill pill.  I read these posts several times a day and can't believe what a waste some of them are.  Way too much complaining.  If you want to make a better edit, go do it.  Otherwise, quit your b*tchin and enjoy what you get.  I'm glad Ady won't be posting any more videos.  It will stop me from having to go through pages of posts complaining about them.

If you look at the comparison video i posted the original 2004 emperor hologram lowers at that exact same point. I had to track the original to match up the overlayed mask so the movement needed to stay the same. The problem with the hologram beings semi-transparent is that the original background shows through, so if i tried to erase the slight drop of the hologram, the background behind the original face would look like it's moving upwards. But i might see if i can do something about it. If not then it will just have to stay as it is

I wouldn't even worry about it.  It looks perfect the way it is.  I didn't even notice the drop until I read that.  It's all part of the hologram's fuzziness.
