getting in and out of TIE fighter
Time

This whole topic is explained in "Star Wars - Incredible Cross Sections" (which is an absolutely AMAZING book, btw).  And stop ripping on the guy for asking a question.

TIE fighters set down into a docking bay and the pilots get out via ladder. The TIEs are then taken to maintenance (if they need it) and "docked" into these overhanging holders from the ceiling, ready for their next mission.  Pilots get to them from catwalks along the ceilings before being launched.  This means that most pilots will never be in the same TIE fighter more than once.

Edit:  Here is the picture of the launching dock from the book (minus the descriptive text.)  But you can see the catwalks and the two TIE fighters turning into the launching queue from the back of the line.

Everytime Guy Pearce went back in time to save his girlfriend, his past version was nowhere to be found.

LoL... you need to rewatch the movie.  He only went back in time to save her once... and he purposely came a lot earlier to avoid his past self.  He quickly takes his girlfriend out of the park and tells her "I'm going to come over later and be upset that you didn't meet me.  But just remember that I love you..." etc etc etc.

So yeah, they totally address it.

Childhood Misconceptions (aka The Trap Thread, but misconceptions still welcome)

I just thought of what is probably my biggest childhood misconception.  Biggest not in plot or story development, but biggest because I STILL have this misconception today!

Probably the most famous line in Star Wars: "No, I am your father," I still to this day hear as "No, I am the father."  And it's sooo hard for me to remember that that's not what it is.  It's usually after I see ESB that it occurs to me that I heard it wrong again.

So...bad puppets in the background or bad CGI aliens in the extreme foreground-you take your pick.

There's absolutely no doubt that the puppets were bad.  But I think they are MUCH MUCH MUCH less distracting than the CGI.  The Special Editions came out when I was in 5th grade... and even then I thought the CGI was TERRIBLE in that scene.  If a 10 year old can spot it... it must be awful.

Yes and no, I tried watching it about 5 or 6 times because I really really wanted to like it (as I said... the novel is my favorite book).  But the movie just didn't engage me whatsoever.  The acting was terrible and the movie makes one big mistake that the 2002 didn't repeat... it's too much like the book.

Unlike the 2002 version, which goes off in its own direction, the original movie tries to copy the book a lot.  So much so that the parts that are different feel like a complete slap in the face to the book.  It makes is very uncomfortable to watch.  Especially the Morlocks... omg... don't get me started on the Morlocks...

I originally thought Ben said "They're not for sale if you want them" instead of "They're up for sale..."

And in ESB, I used to think that the wall with Luke's lightsaber in it was being moved by the Wampa, because it looks like the whole wall is moving toward him when the camera is actually just moving toward the wall.  (I didn't understand the force very well as a kid...).

I should have said, "The end of that scene was cut."  I think there's an animatic or something on the DVD that shows how the actual destruction scene would have gone.

Ah... gotcha.  Although that may have seemed a little too stretched out anyway.  I like the way it was presented because it's more scary.  You don't know exactly what's going on... all that you see is that the world has turned into hell and the time traveler has to get out of there ASAP.

^ I love the first 20 minutes or so of that movie.  It totally sucks (to me) once he meets the eloi.  I wish the "broken moon rains down on metropolis" stuff wouldn't have been cut.  That sounded rad.  I guess the timing of 9/11 sort of killed it.

I did, however, really like the ubermorlock's theory on why he couldn't change time.  I don't think I've heard/seen that one anywhere else before.

That stuff wasn't cut... there's a scene where he stops the machine a few years after visiting the NY Library in which the moon is raining down in pieces and the city is totally destroyed and in flames.  It's an awesome scene!

EDIT:  I found this short clip from that scene on YouTube.  The quality sucks, but it shows the moon cracking.

The original (the first miniseries, not The Final Battle or the TV series) wasn't "all action-packed and full of battles" until perhaps the fourth and final hour, when the Resistance clumsily starting being proactive.

I couldn't even work up much emotion about Monica Baccarin;

I didn't mean the original was action-packed.  I just added that because a lot of people, including yourself, compare it to the original.  And now that I know it was a parallel for dictatorship and the Nazis, I'm glad I didn't watch it.  That's been done countless times before and since.

As for MORENA Baccarin, I LOVE LOVE LOVE her character on V.  I am really rooting for her to win.  Though I've recently begun to realize the potential of Lisa's reign as Queen (And Diana's as well), I still admire the cool collected efficiency of Anna.  It's almost like the Borg from Star Trek.  You can't be mad at them, they are not evil, they are just following their natural instincts.  I would love it if the show ended with the Visitors winning.

My favorite movie is the 2002 version of "The Time Machine."  I went to see it in the theater like 3 times back when it came out.  I still like to watch it a lot, especially with my friends.  2 of them are Philosophy majors, and we all love picking apart the subtleties of the movie.  Makes for great times :)

But even aside from the social aspect, the movie itself is fantastic.  Great story, great visual effects, FANTASTIC music.  Oddly enough, "The Time Machine" is also my favorite book.  But the book and the movie are so completely different in almost every way, that I appreciate each of them for their own unique stories.

Well, despite some complaints, I LOVE this series.  I never miss an episode and I am definitely loving Season 2.  Season 1 was fantastic, but Season 2's episodes are so much more suspenseful.  I love the fact that the show is mostly about plotting and outsmarting the other group.  I would have turned it off right away if it was all action-packed and full of "battles."  I never saw the original past like 10 minutes.  But this version definitely has me hooked :D
