"And here's a little something that's very interesting: Our friend Arnaud Calistri, who runs the DVDRama.com website in France, e-mailed me yesterday to say that Fox France has confirmed with him that the original versions of the Star Wars films to be released on DVD there will be in anamorphic widescreen (enhanced for widescreen 16x9 TVs). As many of you know, they were announced for release here in the States and elsewhere in non-anamorphic (letterboxed) widescreen only, causing a furor among fans (and rightly so). This news, if true, means one of two things: Either Lucasfilm quickly got their act together when fans complained and created new anamorphic masters for the DVD release everywhere (and it just hasn't been announced here in the States yet), or France is getting better DVDs that the rest of the world. If they DID get their act together, expect Lucasfilm's fan relations guru, Steve Sansweet, to make a massive deal about it the company's Star Wars panel at Comic-Con next week. If they DIDN'T get their act together, and France IS getting better discs, expect fans to make a massive deal about it. We'll ask all the right people to see if we can find out the truth of the matter. Of course, we'll let you know."

If that's true, it will probably mean that Begium and Holland will also get the anamorphic version. Because these countries share their dvd version. (At least with the previous Lucasfilm dvd releases).

First try, let's see what happens.

That seems to be a great project. I wish you good luck with it.

But there one thing you seem to have wrong. The song "Love Kills" isn't by Queen. It's a solo song by Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. This can by useful to know when you make the menu

Help Wanted: 1980s ITV Broadcast of Star Wars onto DVD?

Russ, in what format does your dvd recorder record the audio? Is it PCM, mpeg 2 audio, ac3 or something else.

I ask this because I think it would be great to have the monomix available in a high quality PCM track. Like 24 bits 96 kHz. That would be very helpfull for everybody who is making a dvd transfer of the OT. The file could be filtered for noise and/or converted to NTSC speed before converting the sample rate to 48 kHz for the final dvd.

what frames are you talking about? (on the THX edition from 1995?)

It are (It think 24) frames which contain the wipe from the shot on which Obi-Wan and Luke lift 3PO to the shot of Obi-Wan's home.

It's missing on the French spoken and The English spoken French subtitled PAL version of the 1995 THX releases.

What progress have you made? Are you still doing tests or are you in the process of actually working on the films? What about this whole thing about you using a modified PAL player?

Curious George

The modified PAL player is another project. I haven't heared anything about it except the plans to do it. But it's a project I'm looking forward too.
